First let me give you some background- 2003 toyota corrolla, 120k. No warning lights or any issues before friday, had noticed that it was taking a lil bit longer to start and the clock inside was not as bright as it had been in the past, assumed I needed new battery.
Friday- Car takes longer to start than usual, turn over and catches after a couple seconds but you could tell it was struggling. Figure I need new battery.
Saturday- Car barely starts again and drive to autoparts store to get new battery, install new battery there but car did not start. Lights and everything worked fine when I turned key in ignition the car would not attempt to turn over. Guys at oreilly jump started car, let it run for a bit then turned off, started up but was struggling. Drove to GF's place in olathe and left car while we attended wedding in wichita.
Sunday- Car barely started at GF's house and would not start after I arrived home. Same problem I had yesterday, lights and electronics work fine but when I turned key no sound at all, would not even turn over. Cleaned battery terminals and searched google but could not find any solutions.
Monday- Tried to jumpstart car but nothing, would not turn over. Lights and eletronics still work.
ben ji's dad is coming over today after work and we will try and jump it again. Currently have appt set at shop for tomorrow morning, may have to get it towed in(AAA Member so free :D).
Any gE'rs want to guess as to what is wrong with the car?
I'm going with needing a new starter or needs new battery cables!

starter.
working electronics suggests that it is not your alternator, but that would be my 2nd guess

Great guesses guyz, keep em coming and I'll be sure to let everyone know what the problem is when I find out tomorrow!

how long since your last oil change?
-

Don't you mean, "Buy a new car."
-

Well, Wackycat had oil in his gas tank. :dunno:

When you buy a new pine tree air freshener, do you rip the bag all the way off at once, or do you slowly pull the bag off over time?

This thread has the potential to be better than a Chilton repair manual.

as stated, most likely starter, but also possible alternator, sometimes they do go bad even though the small electronics still work. Most auto parts places can check an alternator to rule that out.

alternator would stop the battery from recharging, not the car from starting. his electronics are working.
it's either a starter or a distributor

I had an 88 Accord that would randomly die. Like, sitting at a stoplight, and the engine dies, or stop for gas and won't restart. The interior gauges, etc. all continued to function but you couldn't get it to turn over at all. Turned out to be the alternator.

you can't argue those classic lines....but it was a great first car. had 46k on it when I got it, over 100k when I sold it, had to replace the battery, tires, and a CV joint.

yeah i wasn't being sarcastic. everybody learned how their bodies worked in an 88 accord, or something similar (97 cavalier for mocat)

I think we can rule the alternator out because the car didn't just start right up when he put a new battery into it. If the problem were the alternator, the car would have worked great with the new battery and then not worked later on.

Be sure to ask the mechanic to check the blinker fluid.
-
Could be running low on starter fluid. Would be my guess. That or something with your AC/refrigerant.
-
What's that illegal stuff they banned from ACs?
-

I actually know someone who fell for this, asked the autoparts store guy i believe. Wish i could've seen the reaction.

R-12 freon
-
Did you check the fluid level on the 710 stick?
-
I'm going with starter is bad, or a faulty relay on the starting circuit.
-
Check ur fuses.
-
you got an early 00's toyota, there's your problem.

Bass in the exhaust.

New question:
What's right with ben ji's car?
