TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Basketball is hard => Topic started by: OregonSmock on February 07, 2013, 12:40:05 PM

You guys get happier and more excited when KU loses a game than when your own team wins. Why is that? Is it because you enjoy the fact that KU fans are sad and disappointed after a loss? Do you get some sort of self esteem boost when this happens? Just curious. I got to thinking about this myself last night, and realized what a dick move it would be for me to want KU to win a 9th straight Big 12 title. Like, seriously, nine straight? Who needs nine straight? It's time to share the love with someone else this year. I hope you guys get to experience what it's like to win a Big 12 title. I really do.

your insecurities are bleeding out of you right now.

dumbest of all KU fan talking points.

I'm speaking for myself, but I get really excited when the Cats win.
KU losing does nothing for me, it was just exciting to watch history last night.
-
Beems, don't mail it in, you know you want #9. It's also too hard to explain to a crimson shades KU fan. You're not around it all the time. KU fans are insufferable in everyday life. It's nice seeing them shut up.
-
Take it to the tuck boards, Beems.

Beems coping mechanism? Saying he doesn't want the title so when they lose it he is not so sad.
-
beems, most people are excited that ku lost because it means that now we are tied with little bro for first place. if it were any of the other 8 teams in the same scenario, we'd still be pumped.
-
Seriously, though, isn't it kind of sick how humans get excited and giddy over someone else's pain? There's no better example than in sports.

Beems, do you like watching Mizzou lose? The answer is yes. You could have saved us from a thread if you did some self talking.
-

This is pretty much everyone, are you new to life? Your team was victim to possibly the biggest conference upset in the history of college basketball. Stop being a hypocritical crybaby and be happy that your team is actually relevant enough to be laughed at by every college basketball fan everywhere.

Maybe, but honestly, I just see it as being kind of selfish. I mean yeah I want KU to win all of its games, but at some point, maybe it's better for the Big 12 if someone else wins the conference every once in a while. It's hard to appreciate something when you always expect it to happen.
-
KU and its run of five #1 conference finishes over the last eight years -- and finishing as the #2 seed in the other three years -- is indeed extremely impressive. Congrats. I would wish success like that for my Cats!
-
oh man, remember when that one guy for ku hurt his knee and it like imploded or whatever? and we had a great thread making fun of him? and then he threatened to kill me on twitter? that was a great time to be a kstate fan. was that on ksufans or goEMAW?
-
someone else's pain
:sdeek: amazing lack of perspective, is KU basketball all its fans have?
-
i'm sure thats how the world looks when yo uthink it revolves around you

Seriously, though, isn't it kind of sick how humans get excited and giddy over someone else's pain? There's no better example than in sports.
If you're feeling pain over a road loss in February, when you're still on top of the Big XII, get the round of 64 and 32 in Kansas City with probably 12,000-15,000 Kansas fans in the arena, and likely to win another league title, and you have arguably the best coach in the country, then you're taking this too seriously.
-
someone else's pain
:sdeek: amazing lack of perspective, is KU basketball all its fans have?
Pain is pain. Obviously there are different levels and more serious examples, but it's still pain no matter how you slice it.
-
Do you think more flies fly to a piece of cow crap or a beems thread? I started thinking about that last night.
-
Of course, that's part of being a fan of a team that has a rivalry with another. And honestly, K-State fans may be worse because we've been ridiculously bad against KU for a long, long time. JMHO.
Then add on that last night loss was probably one of the biggest major college regular season league upsets ever and it just piles on.
-

quick flowchart for potential ku or kstate outcomes and kstate fan reactions...
kstate wins in bball or fball- ho hum. of course we just won. duh.
kstate loses in bball or fball- wtf! why did we lose and who should i be most mad at about it? this almost never happens!
ku wins in bball- ho hum. of course they did. duh.

How excited were Ohio State fans (as well as fans everywhere else) when Appalachian State beat Michigan a few years back?
This was a bigger upset than that.
-
someone else's pain
:sdeek: amazing lack of perspective, is KU basketball all its fans have?
Pain is pain. Obviously there are different levels and more serious examples, but it's still pain no matter how you slice it.
I can honestly say I never have and I never will experience pain over a regular season sporting event. I had pain over sports twice in my life, 1998 Big 12 Championship and 2003 ALCS. In retrospect I'm embarrassed about both.
-

Yes, this was one of the biggest upsets in the history of college basketball. This fact cannot be overlooked.
Of course that will bring out K-State fans. I'm sure KU fans were very excited when we lost to Baylor in FB, I just don't go to opposing fan BBSs to find out.

We didn't have to go to other boards to find out... They flooded facebook, twitter, and every BBS they had a login to.
Baylor's upset of us was like a super bowl win for the ku fans.
-
I was ecstatic for a few reasons...
1) KSU is now tied for first in the Big 12...with a shot to win a Big 12 basketball title. How awesome would it be to win bball and fball in same year (Hint: Pretty rough ridin' awesome)? Not many teams can claim they have accomplished that feat in the same year.
2) A record breaking upset happened last night. I would have been excited if it were two SEC, big 10, ACC or PAC 12 teams. The fact that it was in the Big 12 made the upset a bit more electrifying for me personally. The fact that it was a local team and I get to hear all the fans cry about it in the office made it even more exciting.
3) Finally....add #1 and #2 together and the team getting beat is your in-state "rival", hilarity will ensue....
No hard feelings Beems. KU was pumped when we lost in the Fiesta. I get it....
-
I mean, it was a much worse loss than when UMKC beat Wooly.
-
Seriously, though, isn't it kind of sick how humans get excited and giddy over someone else's pain? There's no better example than in sports.
Oregon sure did a number on you beems. Light one up for me bro! :bigtoke:

1ST PLACE!!!!!!! :excited:
-
it's sports, dude. quit talking about pain.
-
It's just nice to have all the Emporia State, Pitt State, Ft. Hays St., etc... grads that I work with that claim to be the BIGGEST KU BASKETBALL Fans shut the hell up for a while. Those dicks are the worst. Actually had a douche tell me one time he is only a KU Basketball fan, not a KU football fan. He wanted me to know this.

BMW, this is a great thread. Very insightful. Just kidding you goddamn idiot.

You noticed emaws are happier after a KU loss than an emaw win? Did your research involve checking twitter and BBS's minutes after #220 beat #5 and K-State didn't play? Great stuff.
-
I mean, it was a much worse loss than when UMKC beat Wooly.
Let's pump the breaks a little, big guy.

I'm sure no squawks said a word when Norfolk St beat Mizzou though :dubious:
People like upsets beems, it's what makes sports so great
-
Whatever that first post says just isn't true.
The only happiness (besides the pure hilarity) I took from the loss is that we now have an opportunity to be Champs.

Different season, different teams, etc... but that UMKC team was mid 150s in kenpom. This TCU team will probably finish mid 250s or worse. The ratings gap between us and UMKC was 80-100. The gap between KU and TCU will be 200+.

going into last night TCU was 330th in offensive efficency

Every KU fan I know is just obsessed with what KSU fans think. It is really weird/creepy.
-
KU fans all over facebook are bitching about KSU fans, then dumbass KSU fans defend it by comparing it to KU fans' reactions after KSU lost to Baylor, but the big difference is, when KSU lost to Baylor, it didn't mean crap for KU. When KU lost to TCU last night, it meant the world to KSU. Shot at the title is now a definite possibility.

point plankn
-
Getting beat by 41 in a quasi-nuetralish court setting by a mid-continent conference team is beyond more embarassing than losing to a crappy school in a bcs conference, regardless of a bcs affiliation not meaning as much in basketball. RPI be damned. Forty rough ridin' One. But let's get back on topic. Beems, tell us why the 3 point line should be moved back.

I don't understand why KU fans think those losses are even somewhat comparable.

I mean, sorry you guys couldn't beat TCU. :dunno:

-
I didn't hear anyone of either fanbase talking about the game today :ck:

Its not about KU schedenfreude, cant we just be happy for TCU picking up its first Big 12 conferenece win ever.
Jeez get over your self KU fans.

as i was driving into the office this morning, i stopped and grabbed a handle of viaka, handed it to he ku grad who does the lunch catering for my office and told him to take the day off. it's not every day that you can bring sunshine into someone's life but it's important to take advantage of the opportunities when the arise.

TCU would have to show marked improvement to reach complete dogshit.

BMW, this is a great thread. Very insightful. Just kidding you goddamn idiot.
This is the most excited you guys have been since K-State started 10-0 in football. Just calling it like I see it, friend.

Most K-State fans are more excited that we're in 1st place in the Big 12 right now, but yeah.

Nobody here, besides you really sees it that way though. Admit it, ku is in real danger of not sharing a piece of the Big XII title this year and you're scared shitless.
Rank, in order, the teams you'd like to see win it if ku doesn't beems... If I had to guess, K-State is the LAST team you want to see take the hardware this year and there is now a VERY real chance of that happening.
:ksu:

I'm sure KU fans were very excited when we lost to Baylor in FB, I just don't go to opposing fan BBSs to find out.
_Fan nails this one pretty well. I would only add that comparatively: 2012 Baylor FB > 2012-13 TCU MBB. The relative positioning of K-State FB and KU MBB at the time is pretty accurate. So, the upset of KU in MBB by TCU was even greater. As _Fan and others point out in this thread, we're VERY excited to be tied for 1st place right now in MBB.
I'll be honest here and admit that I do enjoy KU losses in any sport (or other endeavors such as debate, academic contests, etc.) AND I would've been excited last night if any other Big XII team lost and put K-State into a tie for 1st place.
The OP's (Mr. "Beems" as he is referred to herein) point is calling for a black & white absolute scenario. It's much more complex than that. I LOVE the fact that the season is in our team's hands (exactly where they should want it to be). We're playing for a championship in February. I love it!
-
This is a very odd defense mechanism by ku fans.
-
I wasnt that excited really. I just could not stop laughing. I meen KU had 2 pts with 6:30 left in the 1st half. I laughed. KU was down 37-21 wth 12 min. to play. I laughed. Ku cut the lead to 4 pts and it still looked like a 15 seed vs the worst big 12 team ever, and i laughed. And when TCU missed 13 FTs in the final 3 minutes and still won. Oh yeah.... i laughed
KU could have come back and won by 2 and i still would have got more laughs that watching a stand up comedian for 2 hours.
But i wont lie. I am glad KU lost. Cause in 5 years, few will remember they beat Tcu by 2 pts. NO ONE will forget this monumental upset
Now that the laughing is over, i am excited that Ksu is in a 1st place tie halfway thru the conf season
-
This is a very odd defense mechanism by ku fans.
It's not that odd when you think about it.
-
This is a very odd defense mechanism by ku fans.
They use it all the time. "We need to lose" "We don't want to be #1" "I wish the streak would be over" "I'm glad we lost"
It's bizarre. I'm like.......winning is fun, no? :dunno:

When I heard KU lost I was eating chips and salsa and drinking sweet tea. I like eating that stuff so like Pavlov's dog I salivate for chips and salsa whenever I hear about KU basketball losing. This is scientifically proven by scientists so I appreciate beems pointing this out.

Reaching the Final Four is fun, yes. Winning games you're expected to win is mostly just relief.
-
Guys if I'm ever like so pud that I don't care if we're a top 10 team then you have permission to rip my dick off.
-
If ku wins last night and beats us Monday we would have been looking at being 2 games back on them and 0-2 head to head. We would have needed a bunch of help to erase that deficit. Last night we got some of that unexpected help. I would have to question any KSU fan that wasn't happy to see that last night, winning championships is pretty fun imo

Unless you've won like 8 in a row, then it's like "meh."

i put those losses about the same. ku is way better than that kstate team was and tcu is way worse than that umkc team was, but losing by 40 should count for something.

it makes sense to be excited after last night since it did impact KSU and their chances at a title. What you are missing is that KSU fans act like this everytime KU loses regardless if such a loss impacts them in any way.
Do we act like this every time KU losses a football game? :peek:
Of course not, that would take too much energy. Those losses come fast and often. I wish it wasn't the case, but that is reality.

the only ku-related discussion that i see on this site is regarding bill self's marital fidelity and the magnitude of an upset that might have been the biggest in cbb history.

-
yeah. it started out as a flowchart and then quickly changed to the above due to simplicity. good thing you called me on it skinny klarkson kreepbenny. the world can now sleep.

I'm speaking for myself, but I get really excited when the Cats win.
KU losing does nothing for me, it was just exciting to watch history last night.
Tsk tsk :nono: you shouldn't lie

BMW, this is a great thread. Very insightful. Just kidding you goddamn idiot.
This is the most excited you guys have been since K-State started 10-0 in football. Just calling it like I see it, friend.
These are the circumstances Beems.
1. KU has won 8 straight conference championships. They have been great for a really long time.
2. Halfway through Big XII play, they are at the top of the standings. One game up on the KSU Cats.
3. Interstate Rivalry.
4. TCU is the worst team in the Big XII.
This is a story for lots of people, not just cat fans. There has rarely been an upset like this in college athletics. Don't get bent out of shape because people are pointing that out.
-
Do KU fans realize how fragile a winning program can be? the last twenty years will not be repeated in the next 20.

Yeah. Beems, you're getting yourself wrapped up in a phog.net talking point. That or you're bbs'ing, in which case, carry on.

'braska fans are learning that now

Beems, I'm somewhat of an Aggieville connoisseur. I promise you that after every K-State win, Aggieville bars get pretty busy. If it's a significant win, they get packed. Every time. Away, home, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night. Doesn't matter. The bars were very, very slow last night after the KU game. No one was celebrating. Probably too busy laughing, but the whole nation was doing that, not just us.
-

I was going to add this clause. I'll just adopt it from you right now.

Welp, in retrospect, I was just butthurt this morning and still recovering from a humiliating loss. Glad we talked it out, cat fans.

No problem! :tsc:

I admire that all KU fans are watching the A&M, Mizzou game dispassionately.

That game seemed like a good opportunity to watch the 'Cats and all, but wow, was that ever a disturbing game to watch. I pretended to myself they would come back until they were down by 30. The bad part is that I know the guy who was AD at UMKC at the time, and he was pissed at K-State for not renewing the games in KC, and he was very pleased at seeing the 'Cats get beaten like that.
-
I remember being really :chainsaw: after the UMKC game. Wow, that blew

One thing I've noticed about ku fans is that once football season is over there's a lot more of them, and the extremely small group of real ku fans goes from being really snarky and sarcastic to all chippy and bold/brave.

Please explain what the hell you're talking about. It seems like you're just trying to put down our football program.

I think he's saying that most fans say "I just like ku basketball". Like the Nubb football/ku in basketball type

beems is a great ku fan. if i were him i would hate most of the other ku fans.

I only personally know one real KU fan, and he is going to grad school at KU (also did his undergrad there). He's the only KU fan I know who posts Facebook updates about supporting their football team, or any team that isn't men's basketball. He's also chippy and bold/brave about basketball, but it isn't annoying when he's like that because I know he follows damn near every sport they play. He's a really good dude and has encyclopedia-like knowledge when it comes to sports.
Every single other KU fan I'm friends with on Facebook is the type that's never been to Lawrence, posts multiple updates about how they're the biggest KU b-ball fan ever and only ever talks about football when K-State loses. It's sad that those dicks are the majority of KU fans.

Something I've noticed about K-State fans
that we are all great people who are studs and studettes
