Title: 10 Year Reunions
Post by: 420seriouscat69 on February 06, 2013, 03:34:50 PM
Woof! Mine is in a few months. Did you guys go to yours? Am I old? Should I rent a really hot date so it looks like I'm doing well? Am I a loser, guys?

I think the 20 year reunion is the big one. I would only go to the 10 year reunion if you know that some of your high school bros are going to be there and you want to get wasted. Also, it's kind of fun to see who's gotten fat since you last saw them several years ago.

Didn't go (scheduled same day as KSU football home opener).  August of my senior year we were like 160 kids; graduated 120.  Many dropped out last couple months.  At the risk of sounding snobbish I have little in common with 95% of my class.

Where did you go to school? I couldn't imagine being in a high school class that only had a 75% graduation rate.

I had a great time at my 10 year except for the part where all the parents pulled out pictures and talked about breast feeding and spit-up. But the rest of it, good times.  :dunno:

at the 10 year, a lot of people (not all!) are all about the appearance of being hot crap.  At the 20, people don't give a damn about that anymore and it's chill.

Or so I've heard.  My 10 year was ok...the douchebags were a little less douchey and the skanks were a little less skanky.   :dunno:

Haven't been to any of mine.  I see most of the ppl I would want to see without going.  Also, from what I heard, the ppl you would want to see aren't the ones at the 10yr anyway.

In the social networking world we live in now, why on earth would ppl need a reunion to meet up with old bros?

Would prob lose at 1 on 1(haven't had time to play in a while with anyone outside the 5-8 yr old range).  I could prob beat most ppl at HORSE on an 8' goal though.

Didn't go. If I was going to go I was going to bring Mrs. CF3 so she could meet all my old pals. It was $75 per person, but there was an open bar. Since Mrs. CF3 was pregnant with a 'lil CF3, I asked the person in charge if she could come for free, since she wouldn't drink, or pay less than $75 for an iced tea and a few appetizers. The answer was no so I said screw it, not worth it.

Would have totally tried to drink $150 worth on my own while the wife DD'd me home.

Another reason I don't go to mine is that we don't do things like that.  For the 10yr, someone reserved the back room at Johnny's or something and bought some rough ridin' nachos or potato skins or something.  I mean, it's like whoevs organized it didn't want anyone to go.

Never been to any of mine.  Not sure how frequently they have them if at all.  I'm currently coming up on 15 out.  I can't imagine what a freak show that would be.  I don't want to live through the soul wrenching awkwardness of talking to everybody while pretending that they're not an older, fatter version of their mediocre high school selves and I'm me.  Woof.

They're fun.  I don't know why some people get so uptight about these things.  Best part is getting to hang with my bros that I don't get a chance to hang with much any more. It's pretty fun getting drunk with my small-town townie bros and bros that moved to different parts of the country at my small-town townie bar.

The guys I was best friends with in high school are now degenerate losers.  Then they were stud jocks, now they are drug dealing/using creeps that party with high schoolers and get arrested for bar fights and DUIs.  I have zero incentive to reconnect with that.  That's why I stick to college/law school/job/internet friends these days.

Ts and Ps, one of our guys is like that. Well, not the dating HS chicks part. He is what I would deem an "outlaw"  good dude, just no regard for the rules in any way.  The rest of my bros are townies with families who like to drink beer and shoot the crap.  College grad townies who moved back home and do the same, or the rest of us who moved around the country/ state.

Reunions are fun to drop into for about an hour or so. Go say hi to find people you haven't talked to in a while, make them all jealous that you are attractive and single still, then tell them you've got stuff to do and head out. Maybe take a still-single high school crush with you or tell her to meet you out later.

that implies that you still in live in your hometown or very, very close. which is fine, but will be tough to "make them all jealous" of anything

I've only been to my 5 year, but this strategy worked out well. I did not RSVP. Just showed up, got a lot of, "I didn't know you were coming! How have you been?!" Listened to a few of them talk about their kids. Pulled out some fanningbrags. Got a couple numbers and headed out.

My town does an all class reunion every 5 years. So, like, every 5 years the population of Meade, KS triples for a weekend. Various classes congregate at different locations and then get together for a hick FPD style party. Pretty great.

F14 is playing your high school reunion? I'm crashing it.

Sorry bro. INDIANS ONLY!

Just going to wear one of my roadie shirts. Nobody will know a thing.

Skipped my 5 year but went to my 10 year last year. It was fun to see how fat and ugly everyone else had become.

I'm looking forward to that in four years so much.

I have absolutely zero interest in describing what I've been doing the last 10 years of my life to strangers I DGAF about.

It's actually kinda sad.  :frown: I mean, I still felt good about it inside, but you could tell that some of that energy for life was gone in some.

Just deserts. Many of the people from my high school class are terrible human beings. (not that I'm any better, I suppose)

Ya. I had some scum of the earth as well. My school was in poorly Douglas County for god sakes. Meth capital of Kansas. What were you thinking mom and dad? :shakesfist:

I went to a really small school, so it was a small crowd. I talked to the 5 or 6 people I like, which happen to be the 5 or 6 I've stayed in touch with. Just exchanged brief small talk with the others...

Highlights:
"Oh, you're on your 2nd marriage? I'm so glad you finally found happiness!"
or
"When's your 3rd kid due? That's just great. The other 2 don't seem like absolute terrors, and who needs sleep anyways?"
or
"From what I hear Walmart is an amazing company to work for. They really take care of their employees!"

Everyone in my high school was so adamant they were getting out of Salina the instant they graduate but 75% are still there.

Went to my five year and we went to the homecoming football game then met up the next day and basically played frat style party games and got trashed.  Out of 42 people in our graduating class only about 15 showed up.  Fingers crossed the ten year will be better.

This.  Plus I just feel guilty comparing my life to everyone else's.
