I have heard this before:

"It;s 'yoube webe day.' You be black, we be off. Hurrr de hurrr hurr!"

This makes me think I might be racist, or why would somebody say that to me if they didn't think I was racist? Maybe racist white people think all other white people are racist, too? :dunno:

Also, I am at work today.

When I worked in construction and was the only non-racist, we still got the day off (paid).

Well I'm at work but still don't really have a job so I'm here but I'm going to leave and go places like pretty much all day.

I usually get a floater for holidays and I don't think I get one for today.  That sucks.  Floaters have allowed me to take a lot of vacations so far without touching the paid time off

Mods we seem to have a bit of confusion that I think I can help with. Can we please change the name of this thread to "KKK decides if your workplace is racist"

TIA

We were closed today but office is still full of racists. One guy reminded another on Friday that we were off. He said it was the one good think MLK.  Then he went on a rant about how MLK had a mistress so he was a obviously a scumbag.

Rock Creek :)

It was built in 1990. So two schools that they combined to form RC, I'm sure had black students before. Just that during my time there from 1996 to 2002, we never had a black student.

 :surprised:

Are you sure you aren't color blind or extremely racially evolved or something?  I mean in this time frame, in this country, is this even possible?

Is Rock Creek the name of your Mormon compound and you were home schooled with the other Mormon true believers' kids?

My high school was never off for MLK Day because we "didn't have enough black students". I always thought that was incredibly racist. I mean LOL at segregating MLK Day.

There are plenty of racist communities in Kansas where black people just choose not to dwell. I would wager that in just about every one of them, the post office is the only place of business closed on MLK Day.

there was a massive student walkout in protest the year before i got to my high school, so the next year (when i got there) we had it off.

and CNS, i could completely see even a majority of kansas high schools not having any black students for 10 year stretches.

There was no black people in my hometown or school growing up. I'm not sure there are now. My graduating class had 16 kids in it.

My NE KS mind has obvs not wrapped itself around how truly white ks is.

I mean, who knew that the closest many of you have ever been to a minority, growing up, was the ginger in your math class?

Texas has Confederate Heroes Day on Jan 19 that some workplaces (mostly government) close for.  Not sure how the date was chosen but always seemed awkwardly close to MLK.  Glad I don't live in racist Texas anymore.

Same here 80 something classmates and never a black student in the high school and none in the grade schools to my knowledge.  Now that I think about it there hasn't been a black student for a couple decades.  Oh well I am (just barely) Sesame Street generation so I love everyone.  :)

Awkwardly close? Correct me if I'm wrong but that could potentially be on MLK Jr day since MLK day is always on the third Monday in January...

Yes.

I've been in Texas for 15 years and while I've heard of Confederate Heroes Day I don't recall any type of actual celebration or recognition of it.
