It was a special game for Rodriguez as well, as his mother was able to make the trip from Puerto Rico to see him play for the first time in his collegiate career.

Hope the flag was flying high.

(http://K-State coach oscar Weber said Rodriguez is finally getting it going again after missing time after a travel mishap and an injury right after Christmas cause him to miss two games.)

The Mercury's too cheap to hire copy editors, so you get sentences like this.

:gocho:

Angel was looking for it and we had our moment.  Feel bad about it not being there for most of the games this year.  From now on, free ticket recipients must bring a PR flag and rise it during the national anthem.

Does anyone else think that Angel is having a pretty bad game? His shot selection has been atrocious today.

Do the Lebanese have a secret hatred of Puerto Ricans or something? Bart Raygun is really throwing me off here.

I agree that Angel haters are idiotic but he did tweet that when Angel was 1-10 from the field

How many tucks yell at you for holding up the flag of another country during 'merica's anthem?  I bet the over/under is 3.5 per game.

How many assists did he have at that time? Reagan is a dummy that likes to hate on Angel. As far as shot selection goes,a couple of the misses were layups. Want to hate, do so on missing layups rather than players selecting them as shots.

None since the incident.  And we only do it until Angel nods anyway.

I did respond at the time.

@brettregan Maybe shooting, but everything else no. Angel has to be on the floor for this offense to run. And his defense has been great.

I would venture as far as to say he knows nothing of shooting rays either.

Angel-haters are just ignorant rednecks. The pro-Sean crowd is actively rooting for our football program to be sent to the depths of hell. I'll take the former 8 days a week.

Pro tip: same ppl, just some are smart enough to understand that calling out our best guard as our worst guard will directly out them as racists and they understand that just because they "have a friend that is Puerto Rican", it doesn't mean that they aren't racists.

The Angel haters are pro-Sean and openly racist.

Angel is the worst shooter on the team of any player with more than 50-60 shot attempts.   ArT is shooting 36% INSIDE the arc.

Shoot less, create and kick more.

It's really not that hard.

Angel's ability (and threat) to get to the rim is what makes him most dangerous IMHO. 1/3 of his shots are lay-ups and 1/2 are 3PTAs, which is about right for a dynamic PG. As far as improvement, IMHO he needs to get better at using his body to draw contact and get more FT attempts.

He reminds me a bit of Pullen earlier in his career, he is great at getting into the lane but too often throws up attempts that have little chance of going in but is also out of control enough that he's not going to get a foul call.

Pullen's 2PT% gradually rose over his last 3 years; 43.6% his SO year, then 45% and 46.1% his JR and SR years. However, more importantly his FT rate went from 31% as a SO to 51.5% and 49.1% his JR and SR seasons.

Angel's 2PT% is currently down, from 39.7% to 36.5%, but more importantly his FT rate is also down, from 47.7% to 33.6%. 3PT% has stayed about the same, around 32%.

Angel deserves tons of credit for increasing his Assist% and lowing his TO%, now he needs to get his scoring numbers and FT rate up. I firmly believe that will come as the season progresses. I have to think injuries have hurt his development here as well, especially explosiveness and ability to finish at the rim.

I just don't see how anybody could watch more than a couple minutes of one of our games and not realize that Angel is by far the best player on the team.

Rod?

Different players, different skill sets, both equal importance for this team and at the top of the list.

I don't consider Angel a shooter.

Nothing about his shot tells me he's going to shoot his way out of it . . . while _fan brings up a good point about Angel just throwing up slop and some similarities to Jake, but you could watch Jake shoot and tell it was just a matter of time, don't get the same vibe at all with ArT.

Pullen's 3PT% progression: .303, .335, .396, .381.

Angel so far: .317, .323.

We'll see if Angel can get to the upper 30s like Jake, but no doubt in my mind he can be 35% or better as a 3PT shooter.

And kind of interesting that kenpom's player similarity scale for 13 Angel lists 09 Pullen as 2nd closest.

Team Art is off the deep end.  They've been taking tips from John and Fake in the birther pit on how to defend their position without common sense.

Yeah, it has to improve too.

FWIW here are the 2PT numbers. Clearly Jake benefited in year one from playing with Beasley/Walker.

Pullen 2PT% progression: .496, .436, .450, .461.

Angel: .397, .365.

Had this convo with friend while watching the game on Saturday.  Seemed like Jake got a lot better at this his last year especially.  I think Angel can do it too, hopefully that is something they will have him working on.

We have to remember we're comparing Angel to one of the best ever at K-State when comparing with Jake, but I think he can be a similar player.
