Title: Tuesday Night at The Bram
Post by: bones129 on January 19, 2013, 11:49:58 PM
I'm starting to get excited about this one. I think we have a good chance. And you?

We've been playing pretty well and KU has played like crap lately.   That's a recipe for a big ol KITN.   I'm not feeling good about this game at all,  I just hope we don't get blown out because the squawk fans have been waiting a long time for a chance to be mean to us.

No,  the anger died with Frank.  Does Nubb still have the whole nicest fan base thing trademarked?   Anyone else see the Big 12 commercial when oscar was the only jackass wearing a gray suit?   God I want to punch him in his chicken nuggets filled belly.

eff that.
why do you think there is a team #burnitdown?  why do you think people even have the conversation about Currie we do.  Anger has always been with the students.  It lies in wait, smoldering, for the opportunity to come out, like that crap fanning has to use an ointment for once or twice a month.  We need a flair up Tuesday night.  We need it to burn bad.

Not overly excited.  I mean, we are def winning this one.  Just can't get up for meh games against teams we know we will beat.

I am excited for the Ames game though.  I mean, those kids can shoot.  Also, AWAY GAME!!! How will our guards react?  I think if we keep Angel in the game and out of foul troubs that he, Shane, and Tay will have monster games on D.  Thoughts?

I think our defense sets us apart from the other teams that KU has looked so bad against.

KU overlooks teams left and right in the conference season and squeaks by every year.

Then they play us and crush us. The fact that they have been iffy lately makes me pretty sure they're just going to slaughter us...

I bet we start to get some momentum in the 2nd half, bring it to within a bucket, then McLemore steals it and jams it home and KU goes on a 12-2 run and we have no chance after that.
Title: Re: Tuesday Night at The Bram
Post by: KITNfury on January 20, 2013, 02:17:20 PM
I don't like it. Seems like quick guards have been able to beat our perimeter off the dribble. KU should be able to do that. If JO stays out of foul trouble, I think we can do ok on the inside defensively.

Offensively, we obviously need to shoot well. We probably won't do much inside, but honestly, without looking at stats, it doesn't feel like we usually do anyway. We get a good showing from McGruder and at least one other, I think we might be able to pull it off if we force a bunch of turnovers.

It's gonna take very complete game from us, but it's certainly do-able if KU isn't lights out (they will be though).

Neither Johnson or Tharpe have good FT rates, FWIW.

Seems like a lot of people think we're playing the 2003 sqwawks.  The guys we're playing are a bunch of swingmen that cant dribble with black Ronald McDonald and an effeminate T-Rex at forward.  Oh, and they have no bench.

We when this one then sleep walk to a loss against tornadobirds.

McLemore is really good, but KU has been keyed by great PG play forever. Taylor, Collins, Chalmers, Robinson, Miles... all these guys were studs.

Johnson and Tharpe are not those guys. Now, they aren't bad, but they key is all those guys had assist rates in the upper 20s, shot 3s well AND had FT rates in the upper 40s. Johnson's FT rate is 21% and Tharpe's is 11%; these aren't guys that get into the lane and draw fouls like the typical Self PGs.

I think we can win this game, and its not silly to think so.

ut damn near beat them and they're a poor team that played horribly.  just look at the big 12 stats.  ku isn't way out in front of the pack they're at like .15 over par (having played tech and ut), kstate is .10.  it's a coin flip game.

I'll be honest... I'm not feeling too good about this game.  KU has been playing poorly all month, and it's not going to improve until Perry Ellis steps up and fills in for Kevin Young.  Young is a liability at times on both offense and defense.  He's a situational player who has been forced into a starting role.  I like his activity around the rim and his basketball IQ, but like I said, KU won't be a great team until Perry Ellis steps up.

On a side note, can someone explain why two top 15, first place conference teams are playing on the Big 12 Network?  WTF?

Apparently everyone in the media, despite not having anything bad to say about oscar, thought he was such a shitty coach that he wouldn't be able to take a 2nd round tournament team that returned all but one player and even have a ranked team, let alone be competitive in conference play.

I just think that before the season, ESPN didn't think we were going to be a top 25 team and would just get run out of the gym in both venues. We still could easily get blown out twice, but not being ranked preseason really has done a number on our tv schedule this year.

On a side note, can someone explain why two top 15, first place conference teams are playing on the Big 12 Network?  WTF?

Happens almost every year. Has less to do with how good they are projected to be, more to do with keeping affiliates. In order for a local network like KSNT to carry a crappy ISU-OSU game on a Tuesday night instead of NBC network programming, they get to have the KST/KU game that year. Otherwise there would be little incentive for KSNT to be part of the Big 12 TV weekday package.

Happens for other schools too, games with huge local/regional interest will be on local Big 12 TV at least once as a tradeoff for all the other games they have to carry.
