I don't think the wildwildcats win by 20
I'll rephrase that.
If it's close enough at the end of the game to where TCU is intentionally fouling, we're in trouble.

The game won't be close.
-
not one, but two teams ranked in the 200s. it's unheard of. prior to last year, the big 12 had never even had one. and in a 10 team league.
-
Anyone going to the game on Wednesday? I'm thinking about it.
-
We should win and win easily, but don't be surprised if its not uglied up and closer than it should be for at least a half. TCU is the slowest playing team in the league and has decent defensive numbers, so they can do some things to keep it close. Still, the Cats should win by double digits.
sys is right, its weird to have 2 teams rated worse than 225 in the league. Last year's Tech was by far the worst team in the last 10 years, finishing at #246. Before that every terrible team since 2003 finished in the Top 200. Even Watkins' 0-16 aTm team in 04 finished #167.
-
I think it will be too close for comfort, and I think everybody that has watched this team expects that. The difference for me is, I'm finally OK with that.
:)
-
I'd be suprised if we're favored by more than 7 or 8 points.
Even against marginal competition, I just don't see us really blowing anyone out of the water.
-
It's bullshit that we even have to play them. What part of "football only" do rough ridin' Deloss Dodds and Chuck Nienas(sp) not understand?
-
If we keep trying to get transition points I think we blow them out. If for some reasons we decide to slow it down and play their game, it will be ugly and a close game.
-
It's going to be close. This team just doesn't have the "killer instinct" that oscar has been trying to instill in them.

Is TCU MBB the worst "revenue sport" program in the Big XII-(IV+II)?

It would be a close race between them and KU football right now.

i'd give it to ku football just because the $ potential is so much greater

It's a tough one. I mean, KU should be much better at fb given what they are willing to pay, the conference, the proximity to the metro area, etc.
That said, how hard is it to find 5-7 decent bb players in the middle of texas?
Maybe rev potential/failure is the best measure here.

Woolyball!
Not really.
Wooly had one of the better 3PT shooters in K-State history in Cartier Martin and had teams that shot decently from 3 (upper 30s), but insisted on his "fools gold" philosophy and as a result his teams consistently shot fewer 3s compared to 2s than most other teams in the country. And his teams were poor at shooting 2s and didn't oboard particularly well.
Also Wooly's philosophy on defense didn't pressure the ball, so his defenses didn't force TOs AND teams consistently had high assists% on made shots. Teams could run their offense and get good shots.
We'll see in the long run, but oscar at least lets his teams play with some aggressiveness on defense (forcing TOs, low assist% for opponents) and has maintained oboarding as a strength which is about as opposite as Wooly ball as you can get.
-
So, a couple things:
1. I don't have great memory of the Wooly years, but I would imagine that our 3pt% was higher because teams probably didn't plan to guard us as much. If there was that big of discrepancy between the number of 3's we shot and the number of 2's we shot, then I'm sure teams loosened up on us when we took the ball outside the arc.
2. Reading all this, why did you want to give Wooly more years? Honest question. What did you see that you thought warranted Wooly getting more time?
-
kenpom has TCU with about an 18% chance of not winning another game this year. :horrorsurprise:
-

Because I was stupid and Wooly was likeable. He should've been fired after 3 years with no postseason.
-
We should just let Rodney stay home like the Spurs did with Tim Duncan. Rest up for Saturday kid.
-
I don't know that I wanted him to get more years, but I would've accepted it. There was a lack of expectation and an overall acceptance of a coach's excuses and our place in the Big 12

What are their chances if you take out the Tech games? Over 50%?

Its hard to overstate how low the expectations were for KSU hoops when I showed up on campus (fall 01). No one gave an EFF. I heard numerous discussions in the 01-06 era about who would win between our mens and womens team. People like Wooly, he won a couple big games, had some nice recruits, and no one really gave much of an EFF in general about winning (yes I know there were outliers).
You know how Royals fans are now? That's kinda how KSU hoops fans were when I showed up. Only less cynical and nicer really.

:dunno:
Maybe I'm repressing my memories from the era, but it sure seemed like Wooly's teams played pretty slow, using most of the shot clock themselves and, thanks to the non-aggressive nature of the D camping out inside the arc, forcing other teams to use a lot of shot clock, even though the other team would usually eventually wind up getting a good shot. I mean, 59-55 was pretty much the poster child for that. And as a result the points allowed per game usually looked OK.
I probably should have left out the "uglied" part of the quote. It was ugly, all right, but not in the "technical" sense of o-boarding and aggressive, physical D like we usually use it around here.
-
Wooly's teams played slow, but not to the extreme. His last few years were mid to upper 60s paced on average; it was faster than Doc Sadler ball for example. The nonaggression nature of his coaching and his teams probably made it seem slower than it was.
-
read this write up of the TCU/Baylor game from the TCU newspaper, it's depressing

Football is the single most important budget item in college sports, it's not close. If a school is terrible at either MBB or FB, the second one is infinitely more damaging to the overall health of the dept.

He needs to adjust his formula to accurately rank K-State, everyone else's rankings be damned

His formula thinks our defense is pretty good, but our offense is garbage.

Its justifiable, we shot awful a good portion of the season. We've been much better lately.

A little more about TCU.
Offensively they are awful, probably the worst offense in Big 12 basketball history. Currently they average less than .9 points per possession for the season which no Big 12 team has ever managed. They shoot 45%, 44% on 2s, and turn the ball over 23% of the time, all numbers that put them in the bottom 1/5 of college basketball. Defensively they are okay, but with offense that bad it really doesn't matter.
They did muddy up the game (54 possessions!) against Baylor last weekend and actually led at halftime 22-21. Baylor eventually went on a 17-4 run and put the game away. This is actually a game that might be a first one to 50 wins.
Cats 65-Frogs 48.

Cat's win 21-19. Rodney will sack their QB in the endzone to break the tie as time expires.

Would love to believe this, but am having a hard time convincing myself to lay double digits on the road with these Cats especially with OU coming to town on Saturday and KU next week.

If this game is within 35 I'm gonna come on here and bitch about how much Will and oscar suck.

No, he appeared likable in public. He was actually an a**hole. More of an a**hole than Asbury. (Really.)

We will be dissappointed if you don't come back on here and bitch if the WS Conference Point Tracker is at 5, and he played 30 min, regardless if win by 1 or 40.

We might score 20 and win...

Man, I didn't think you were lying, but you are dead on. Also that score doesn't look far off based on what's going on. Could be even lower

That's generous. Although there was a nice fan to cheerleader ratio, I'm sure Fitz enjoyed that part of the road trip.

Just won a Big 12 road game, and less than 30 people viewing the board  meh.

On the radio Stan said he "hit his head on the goal support." I imagine this as the underside of the backboard, but I'm not sure. Also, I think those things are padded anyway.

agree, but the Dougherty "Shannon Spradling" stuff was priceless. I broke out laughing thinking about how people on this board were reacting. "that's his dad, I make that mistake all the time"

Will... how terrible. Love people patting him on the back and getting so excited when he hits wide open 3s for once. He still has more fouls than points in conference play. :dubious:

oscar CHOSE Orris over Josh Gray.
