I just received my special bowl edition of the Powercat Illustrated magazine, and in an article by Tyler Dreiling, he says that Ell was suspended for the first quarter of that Fiesta Bowl. I'm pretty sure he started and any number of box scores and things recapping the game seem to confirm.
What's the deal?
-
Yeah he definitely started.
-
Didn't start, sat out one or two series I thought, but I was pretty young.
-
Yeah he definitely started.
How do you explain the Powercat Illustrated article?
I mean, I agree that I can watch my tape of the game and see Ell playing all game, or I can look at the box score and see he played the whole way - http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=240020194 - but I must be confusing something because Tyler Dreiling makes it very clear that Ell was suspended for the first quarter.

Hmmm... now we're getting somewhere. You didn't possibly source Tyler Dreiling's Powercat Illustrated article based on your memory and maybe your mind recalled the event as something in between a 1-quarter suspension or none, and Dreiling possibly misunderstood you?
-
To be fair, his first quarter play was forgetable.

Yeah, it could be that based on his performance while playing the game, that Tyler Dreiling has retroactively declared him "suspended." It's certainly one of those gray factual areas.
-
eff if I know, thought he sat out, guess not.

Pendergast, how would you like to become goEMAW's lead K-State football "historical feature" writer?

Sounds good, as long as I can continue to make stuff up.

Let's start with this - how many football national championships did K-State win in Snyder's first stint at coach?

He was suspended the first quater, but Ell is a warrier so he played through that suspension.

Interesting, maybe he told anybody questioning him playing that he was somebody else.
-
He was given the choice to sit the 1st quarter or start, but if he started, he lost his scholly, bowl ring and had to walk home from AZ...
That was a long ass walk home and we probably would have been better off if he did sit out the 1st qtr.
-
I think Fitz reported at the time that Ell would sit out the first quarter of the game. So, he's probably just stood by his source on that info all this time, which has resulted in the present confusion.
I miss the days when Fitz would make mistake after mistake after mistake.

Never again will I accuse Fitz of sitting on info.

It comes in the mail. Regular mail, not email.

He was suspended for the first quarter so James Mcgill put on an Ell Roberson jersey and took his place.

Tyler is obviously playing a game of Counterfactuals.
In a world were Ell Roberson the 3rd is suspended during the 1st quarter of the 2004 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, who wins the 2010 Superbowl?

People always blame Ell. But I don't remember Ell giving up 4 TD passes to Craig Krenzel and getting a punt blocked for a TD.

Defense: A disgusted EMAW fan in NYC throws their Tostitos queso jar out in the street. Said jar falls into the sewer where it bumps some innocent turtles out of the path of some mutagen. The mutagen transforms the queso into a sentient being hellbent on destroying the Earth. However, the infantile queso monster is mistakenly blended into the nutritional supplements of the NY Jets franchise. The Jets consume the contaminated supplements and their DNA is transformed into that of a cheese danish. The Jets timeline continues as normal but their newfound powers prove to be the catalyst for victories over the Steelers in the 2010 AFC championship and the Packers in the 2010 Superbowl.

Correct. Would have also taken the 1985 Bears.

Impossible. Said mutagen would only enhance Sanchez's abilities to throw more interceptions than anyone thought humanly possible. Jets go 0-16 and draft Ndamukong Suh with the #1 overall pick, confident that Sanchez will "turn it around."

That reminds me of a good joke. What's the difference between Tyler Dreiling and a bucket of crap?
