Title: Haircuts
Post by: bones129 on December 08, 2012, 12:30:37 AM
I need a new one. What is the best style to get these days? I don't want to shave my head, but I don't want hair down to my ass, either.

Suggestions?

Maybe try something in between those two. Like where your hair is just sort of short, but not too short. Just a normal length.

Short scissor cut on the top, #6 or 7 on the back/sides to thin it out.

Also I got a fantastic haircut this afternoon.  Prolly best haircut i've ever had.  Hair is probably about an inch on top, sides are significantly shorter than the top, and a fresh swoop from left to right.

It's what I always get, but boy oh boy.  Really went well today.

Do you guys like going to the legit barber shops complete with the red, white and blue striped barber pole thingies?  Or is everybody more partial to the Great Clips/Sports Clips chains of the world?  What have you had more success with?

Personally, I've always just gone to Great Clips, but I could be doing it wrong.

I almost always go with a temp fade. However, I've been growing it out and now it's more than a THREE guard. So I said hell with it, give me a high fade down to bald. I should have a pretty solid high top come april. These fools at work will not know what to do with me!

sounds like you had what many call a "bad experience" - there's plenty of other fish in the sea with clippers, though.  maybe it'll get better, maybe not.

maybe like ten years ago you had your last bad haircut that left you looking like a beatle and then just shaved your head and had your girlfriend cut your hair from then on out, not caring what it looks like.  i guess we'll see what your fate is though

my friend just asked me tonight if there was anywhere in topeka that he could get a straight razor shave at.  please answer this question too.

my haircut tonight was pretty amazing.  looks just perfect as always, and i detest conversation while getting my hair cut so it was nice and silent.  A+ experience.

I have to get mine cut a couple days in advance.

My hair is crazy thick(have broken the stylists clippers on two occasions  :gocho:) and grows really fast.  If I go more than 2 weeks I basically have to wear a hat from that point on.

if it's curly, then it's not standing straight.  i really hope that helps your completely dumb ass.  maybe a better approach would be to shave your head and get a "i'm a complete dumbass" tattoo on each side of your scalp because then people would know not to try to have a rational discussion with you.  i'm not sure though, if that would help.

A couple years ago, I gave up on the comb-over and went to the brushback. But I have a long peninsula in the middle. Any ideas on options to not always look ridiculous? I have a huge melon head, so shaving it makes it look horrible. Or maybe I should just embrace reality and celebrate the horror? (see photo for similar terrible hair, except I have a longer peninsula and am not a rich cool celebrity)

I would like to find a real barber shop......any Topeka area EMAW'rs have a recommendo??

don't think there really is one in Topeka except for some on the East side  (picture a Tyler Perry movie) or the one in the Bank of America building, if it's still there.
17th & Washburn, by the Great Wall.  Old timey barbers there.

A couple years ago, I gave up on the comb-over and went to the brushback. But I have a long peninsula in the middle. Any ideas on options to not always look ridiculous? Google had no answer for this, although I tried. Wish I could have done better.

I need one of these things, I haven't cut my hair or trimmed the beard since January and next week I need to actually meet with some clients so I'd like to not look like a homeless.

I was thinking I might try one of those hipstery hair/beard combos, what do you guys think?   Also where should I go? I was peepin this sole patch place in PV and it looks sufficiently hipstery that I could just say make me look better and wouldn't need much instruction after that

short on the side.  long on top.  put some product in it and push it over to one side or part it.

I recently found a local place. The haircut experience feels a little like getting beat up by a sibling, pretty rough and tumble. But it's super convenient, she seems nice, and the haircuts have come out fine. I like it.

This cat over here 7 guards his own hair, has done it for years.  The only issues is there can be 3-4 months between guards.

6 on top.
2 on the sides.
Taper on the bottom.

Takes about fifteen minutes every three to four weeks. Been doing it for years.

I like to get the VIP spa cut and massage a couple times a year. Otherwise, just buzz it down.

I did this exact same from like 10 to 30, then I decided to stop getting a child's haircut  ;)

I started doing it in the military. I prefer the military taper over the child's buzz.

Bit upset today, after making the 40min trip into Pike Place purely to take my 8yr old boys back to Sergio's after getting a great tight cut there 8 weeks ago, only to be told 'I don't cut kids hair' .. Hair is hair right ? and i'm happy to pay adult prices for my boys to get a proper barbers cut. This is why I bring them all the way here.. I'll probably be back, just annoyed

What kind of father that knows what the Sergio 'cut experience is all about would think it's appropriate to take 8-year-olds there anyway?
