Title: A proposal: (fatty tribute video)
Post by: "storm"nut on November 15, 2012, 11:33:42 AM
How would everyone feel that after this season, that a group of the best video splicers in the business (not me of course) update Fatty's classic Birth of K-State Football video?

Update the stats, add new footage from last season and this season, and a bigger part of this is try and see what it would take to get the rights to everything so that the video could be shown at K-State football games.

I guess the first question is should it be touched?

Discuses. I am good at coming up with ideas but would not have the time to organize the whole thing. I would love to hear your input.

At the very least it would be cool to update our record vs Texas, Oklahoma, top 5/10 teams, etc.

And there used to be a scrolling list of FBS teams' win% since 1993 or whatever at the very end of the video, to bookend the list at the beginning where KSU is "dead last....by far"

Same concept, but I agree w/ OKCat, do something new...let Fatty's masterpiece remain unscathed.

My general rule when it comes to music is that if a song is good enough to be covered, it should never be covered...Fatty's vid should live in it's greatness untouched.

there are people here who are sensible enough to do the work justice, but it would be very difficult to add 3 successful seasons in the span of the song.

They've had to retouch the sistine chapel, no reason to not update The Birth as long as it's done by people qualified to do so.

Why not just do a sequel that isn't a sequel, so that they fit seamlessly when played back to back? Don't eff with the original, but if a follow up vid I would be in favor of.

Edit: Sequel that's a sequel meaning don't say the birth continued or whatever, just a stand alone video that picks up where the birth left off.

If you want to do it as a tribute, make a new one for this season with prophetic fatty posts spliced between video of their fullfillment.

reading everything seems to me a continuation with a second video would be the way to go. After all the original did not have any of Snyder 2.0 in it. Again I am just coming up with ideas, in no way am I qualified to do any of the actual work.

Please rename thread title to, "A proposal: fatty tribute vid".

As one of the most prolific KSU fan youtubers of all time, it is only fitting that fatty's fans immortalize him in youtubedom forever.

Start with an intro to fatty, and his fanhood (maybe some wabashing). Throw in some KSU history. Show some game footage of the team working through their pre-destined season with a fatty quote sprinkled in here and there. Wrap it up with quotes about fatty from elites/media types and fade out to canco's fatty angel on black with the birth/death years below it.

Only one song will do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC06CMBQLM0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC06CMBQLM0)

I dare you to listen to that whole song while thinking about the fatty tribute video and not cry like a little schoolgirl.

I'd make a motion for the song "Amazing" by Kanye.  Haunting little melody, and the part when Young Jeezy says "they be like oh god why he go so hard? look what he's been through, he deserves an applause"  yeah...if you don't atleast get a little bit of a chill from that, then i'm sorry you don't have a soul.

If you're rejecting my proposal based solely on the fact that it's Kanye, I'd argue that Bono is atleast 2x the dipshit Kanye is.  Just listen through 1 time, if you still think it merits a "shut. up." then...you're...dumb.

Make a new video.

Since the first one was "Birth of Kansas State Football", may I suggest...

"Kansas State Football - Reborn"

or

"Resurrection of Kansas State Football"

?

Then start off the opening credits with a honor to fatty, then go from there?

When did he do the first one?

The original one was the best and it's long gone due to copyright bs. It was mostly this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqWOhweImn0 but I remember he had all the audio from the the announcers. This replacement was just a hacked up job with the audio all messed up. The U2 version is a lot different and included a lot of Ron Prince.

Just use it as inspiration and make a new one.

Looking back at that now...the amount of effort he put into accumulating all that footage and assembling it with the tools that were available back then is amazing. That's what made it special. Incredible amount of effort.

With the tools available today you should make something that is a whole lot better.

Let me break it down for you, nicname. 2011 WAS great, but we were looking for an NC, and we didn't find it (just like in '09 and '10). Hence, we still didn't find what we were looking for. Win we win it in 2012, it will be a beautiful day (for Felix Rex, it will be a beautiful night for the rest of us).

I think the orginal was exactly the one you linked, but with the audio intact.  It had the U2 music like the "U2 version", but instead of the Louis Armstrong song, it had a version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"....and, of course, the commentators dialogue.

I definitely like the idea of the sequel that would mesh with the original, but if anything were to be done to the birth video, it should be to restore the orginal version.  Just my thoughts.

Yosh,

Your comment made me think about a copy I made of "The Birth of Kansas State Football" back in 2007.  Is this the version you were thinking about?  Is this the original?

Yeah, that's the one.     Whatever happens, this one should be protected.  The "sequel" should pick up where this left off (2007)

i've always thought "all these things that i have done" would've made for a good fatty vid.

also think the U2 ones mentioned would be great.

Yeah. This would be good.

Ever since 1993 I've wanted to do a KSU video like fatty's birth of KSU football to this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ZMwA3upuCGU#t=101s).  I've always pictured it in my head how it would go.  But I never had the skillz.

Please don't mind the marching band stuff. :)

Do a new one, in the absolute style of fff's original.  Pre-1989 despair now being the end of the Prince regime, and DOD2 being the good part.  Use unique media clips and the same sort of edits/transitions fatty did.

IMO.

He used that for a Prince-era vid.
