Title: Soft Drinks
Post by: AppleJack on November 13, 2012, 07:01:40 PM
Can I talk soft drinks with you guys? I have some pretty controversial views on them.

I don't drink a ton of pop but I think Coca-Cola Classic is complete crap. Just the worst.

If I do drink a pop guess what I drink? Mr. Pibb  :surprised:

Also I love root beer. Thank you.

Stopped drinking Cola(thats what i call all soft drinks) regularly sometime in college, not for health reasons, just grew out of it.

I will however dominate a nice cold coca cola about once a month for no reason, specifically with a chipolte burrito.

I like pop, but I don't like that I like it. I'd say my favorite carbonated rat poison is Coke Zero.  :embarrassed:

Wellers and Coke is my favorite adult beverage.  I use diet Coke and Coke Zero sometimes but it just isn't the same.  If you havn't had a Wellers N Coke you should try it some time they were made for eachother.

I don't drink soda pop. The only carbonated beverage I drink is beer. Because I don't drink soda pop, I make up for it by drinking more beer than I otherwise would.

Coke or Wild Cherry Pepsi.  I don't drink pop too often mainly just when I go to/ rent movies or a Chinese Buffet. I don't go to Chinese Buffets very often, like once or twice a year.  I go to the movies like twice a month.  I'm a big pop/ popcorn guy there.  "Giant soda? Yes please. Huge popcorn with delicious fake butter x 3, indeed!"  nom nom nom

I love RC Cola, and I love the fact that I live a few blocks away from a Dara's that has fountain RC :drink:

Only other pop I'll drink is Mexican brands of Coke, Sprite or Fanta because they're made with real sugar and don't contain high fructose corn syrup.  I enjoy RC enough to ingest HFCS, though.

hard to explain, but i think it tastes BETTER than regular. it's probably mental, but when i drink regular dr. pepper it just feels too sugary. diet dr. pepper maintains a smooth, subtle lightness but still with the great taste profile of a regular dr. pepper.

I tried to go with Pepsi Max for a while, really gave it a shot.  Tried convincing myself it was just as good as regular Pepsi.  Then one day I was about halfway through a glass of it and just couldn't do it anymore.  Pepsi Max is bad.  Tastes like Pepsi......with weird chemicals added.  Now going with Pepsi Next.      :drink   <-----like Pepsi but with 60% fewer calories.

Annual health care exhibit at work that measures all the stuff about your blood gave me a 99/100.

I missed 1 point for my cholesterol being 1 point above the accepted rating or whatever they called it.

And emawblast it is pretty easy.  Milk for lunch/dinner and 2 protein shakes daily made with milk.  Usually a bedtime snack of milk and chocolate of some form.

I drank a lot of soft drink as a kid, but I don't drink it at all as an adult.  Just lost the taste for it.  I drink water and skim milk.  Don't care for juice either.  Too sugary.  Would rather eat fruit.  Coffee and beer are not for me either.  Drinking things is like breathing to me.  I don't really get off on it it, I just have to do it to live.

I think he was referring to the whole milk part of it.  That seems like a lot of fat to be ingesting in one day.  Whole milk is for babies only btw.  Adults should be going with 2% or less.

milk is high in saturated fat and sugar (lactose), both of which should be moderated in a diet.  they turn into carbs/calories/fat in your body.

i love milk but i limit my intake.

there's really no nutritional reason for anyone past a kid's age to be drinking excess amounts of it.

most people get more protein than they need through their regular diet and don't need to supplement it with a shake but they can be good as a meal replacement/snack before working out, or for vegetarians who don't get enough protein in their diet.

It tastes bad and if I drink enough of it to get drunk, it makes me really sick the next day.  Meaning substantially more sick than an equivalent liquor drunk.  Plus you have to drink so much more volume than if you just drink vodka and water.  There is literally no positive side of it for me.  I pretty much stopped drinking it after high school.  So in your face AJ.  In it.

P.S. I'm doing good this afternoon.  You?

Up 32 pounds this year alone.

Although it was done with more than just an increase in calories/carbs.

If you're up 32 pounds, it sounds like you can gain weight.

Mr. Bread doesn't like beer

You?

milk is high in saturated fat and sugar (lactose), both of which should be moderated in a diet.  they turn into carbs/calories/fat in your body.

i love milk but i limit my intake.

there's really no nutritional reason for anyone past a kid's age to be drinking excess amounts of it.

Took a drastic change(supplements, much much much higher calorie intake, changed workout) to do it.  For almost 2 years I idled at the same weight, but if I didn't work out for a week about 5 pounds would melt off of me.

Basically I can't gain weight by eating a ton and doing nothing.

Drinking a gallon of milk a day is good for you if you're trying to put on weight and are doing some sort of physical activity. I've put on about 20 pounds in the last three months drinking a gallon a day and following a 5x5 lifting routing five days a week. I'm finally about back to where I was before my Crohn's flare-up, weight wise anyway. I'm nowhere near where my strength levels were, that will come with time, though.

Wow, Mr. B.  I bring up this talking point all the time.  I don't understand people that casually drink beer.

Do I drink it?  Yep, but only to get drunk because I think being drunk is pretty fun.  Having said that beer is routinely the worst thing I, or anyone else for that matter, drinks.

People that drink beer with meals are nuts.

Anyways, part of the joy to not drinking pop is being smug about it.  Similar to not watching TV.

"No thanks, I don't drink soda."

Did you know that when people did the Pepsi challenge, a very high number of people legitimately chose Pepsi? They put in every commercial, made sure everyone knew it, etc, but it still didn't convince anyone to buy Pepsi over Coke. Point of the story is, everyone likes Pepsi better, even you, so stop buying Coke.

Also, the only time I drink soda is in a gin press (half soda water, half Sprite). It's great for well gin because that way it covers the cheap taste, but isn't too sweet. Having that much straight soda makes me sick.

The best used to be 7-Up, which I guess is kind of like Sprite. Never could figure out why 7-Up had medicinal benefits. It came in green bottles, and the only drink I have ever valued that comes in green bottles is Heineken.

oh man, I would.  I wouldn't have ever gotten started drinking it if there was no caffeine, but now there are definitely times that I wish I had some decaf because it's pretty late or I already have a major caffeine buzz (from drinking a pot of coffee). I think I would on nice beers too, but i'm not sure.

Used to drink 24-40 oz of pop a day. About 2 years ago, stopped the regular intake. Lost almost 10 pounds in two weeks.

I still drink it at the movies or in mixed drinks or when I feel like a cold refreshing coke. I'm not anal about it. But I just don't drink it daily like I used to.

Definitely agree that they are terrible.  So watered down and infused with other sodas.  Great idea...would probably love if they didn't shaft us hard on the syrup.  Also the flavor additions of cherry, vanilla, etc. make any of your favorite pops taste like liquid medicine!  I'm appalled that anyone likes these terribly designed wannabe futuristic flops, and for anyone who does, try this: bring a can of your favorite soda to one of the establishments that wasted their money on one of these and compare it to the crap that machine outputs when you push your favorite soda's button.  Save some money and dissatisfaction, bring your food home, and drink a can of your own pop (or beer) with your meal.

A cold can of soda is far superior to soda in any other form and its not even close.  I rarely buy cans because they're so delcious that I don't trust myself to not drink them like they're the last sodas on earth.

Could not agree more, and hate when people don't understand and take the 'soda is soda, dumbasses' approach.

I have been significantly cutting back on sodas this year.  Used to drink 3-4 a day, now it's maybe 1 a week. Had a DDP today and it wasn't nearly as tasty or refreshing as I used to think it was.

you've had some terrible soda fountain experiences then.

cans are definatly superior.  except for mountain dew, then it's required to drink that from the fountain.

20oz taste like crap no matter what soda it is.

Weird thing is, MD was one of my major focus pts here.  I almost never drink it, until my little bro mentioned what an unexpected pleasure an ice cold can of MD is when you find one in a cooler.  He was so right, I'm not sire of the last time I've actually had a MD, except in that exact scenerio.

I've really cut back myself so when I do treat myself to a soda, I go full throbble and grab a Coke.  When I was drinking too much, I made myself drink DDPs and Pepsi Max.

I used to frequent the local QT in the morning on my way to work.  Blessed be the day I discovered the best soda combo evar.  One half Code Red and half rooster booster.     :drink: :excited:  I would get so amped by the time I got to work.   :runaway:

Sometimes I really miss KC, QT, my apartment, and the commute from KC to Lowrents.

I always hated it when some parent went all cheap and brought generic sodas for the team.

Mom always got groceries from Sam's and Food 4 Less.  I remember drinking a ton of soda from plain yellow cans from Food 4 Less.

When I was little my mom used to get a cooler and pack it with a variety of cans of Shasta for when we went on a road trip. Fell in love with cream soda that way, absolutely love it.

Hate red cream soda, I'm not sure how that garbage is popular enough to continue existing.

McDonalds has by far the best fountain drinks. Their Coca Cola is like any other Coca Cola from the fountain on the planet.

Also, they have blue Powerade.

ITS LIKE THEY KNOW I GO THERE HUNGOVER!!!

Have we discussed Jolt cola in this thread?  Used to run Jolt through a coffee machine (yes with like coffee grounds and filter) and take that to Snow Creek for the midnight session.
