Title: Who Are goEMAW's Moderates?
Post by: MixBerryCrunch on November 06, 2012, 11:54:31 PM
I am. I want to know who else is. The rest of you will get put on a list. That is all.

See SDs thread at the top of the board for your moderates, safe to say 90% of the people here are.  I'm not a moderate, safe to say you can add FSD and John Doug to that list as well.

i'm a moderate if you take my median, but an extremist if you look at my modal positions.

I think I may be a moderate.  I mean, I have views that are on the left but also views on the right.

Taken at face value, that alone doesn't make you a moderate.  For instance one might view my opinion on legal marijuana conservative, I don't agree with that, but I am in no way moderate.

I believe in a balanced fiscal approach but you can't really get left of me socially. is there some kind of quiz we can take to see if we're moderates? labels are very important and I want to make sure I'm not misrepresenting myself. tia.

I think that most people think they are moderates but I don't think most people are. props to MIR for just owning it.

This one  (http://www.guardian.co.uk/quiz/questions/0,5962,122142,00.html)is sort of entertaining, but I'm not sure if it is comprehensive enough. My result:

Quote
You scored 14
More of a damp and flaccid liberal, you'd like the world to be a little better - you just don't want to have to make the effort yourself. So, you once went on a demo and you watch Children in Need and you voted Labour last time round. But don't kid yourself - that shrivelled and underused liberal conscience impresses nobody.

I guess I'm a moderate.

That isn't better at all, it is filled with assumptive ideological stereotyping.  It lost me a question 1.  I don't identify with either of those, there were many questions like that.  FWIW I graded out as a solid liberal.

Awful lot of people going on that list...I think the definition of a Political Moderate is fluid, and it's generally accepted now that you can hold views on either side of the discussion and still be considered a Moderate as long as the whole of your views puts you somewhere in the middle.  If someone comes down squarely in the middle of every issue I'd label them as apathetic as opposed to Moderate, but that's just me.  :dunno:

I hate to take away from the classification of everyone, but lots of people say they are "socially liberal" and "fiscally conservative" and I don't quite buy it.

Yeah, you want low taxes and don't hate gays, but how do you feel about people on welfare and social security reform and medicaid and affirmative action? It's really hard to be a serious fiscal conservative without taking conservative stances on those issues.

It's really hard to be a serious fiscal conservative without taking conservative stances on those issues.

look at this libtard, libbing it up

As someone who has said that in the past, I think when they say "socially liberal", they mean on social rights issues such as gay marriage, abortion, and the like and not so much about welfare programs.

this has nothing to do with any views or beliefs anyone posts to try to sway the judges or get some desired result. this is what the judges know for a fact about every one of you. you are already in the books as something. if you want to find out what it is you just have to ask.

Oh, man. I just clicked on "Disaffecteds" to see what that even is.

 Disaffecteds

11% of the public
What They Believe

Highly critical of both government and business
Sympathetic to the poor and supportive of social welfare programs
    Concerned about immigration
Majority believes the country can't solve many of its important problems
    Religious and socially conservative

Who They Are

Most financially stressed of the groups: nearly half describe their household as "struggling"
71% have experienced unemployment in their household in the past 12 months
About two-thirds have only a high school education or less
Compared with the national average of 33%, more are parents (44%)
26% have a U.S. passport — well below the national average
    23% follow NASCAR racing

These must be the social conservative, fiscal liberal people from the south that steve dave told me about.

I prob should be farther to the fiscal-right, but answered a few questions with what I think people should do, not what the gov. should for people to do i.e. the "from each according to his ability... according to his need" quote.  I agree with the premise, but not the forces application.

Yeah, the sentiment of that quote is admirable but I don't agree with Marxists so I selected disagree even though I would strongly disagree with a Government that adheres to it.

I would also say I'm not a true libertarian by any means.  I just think that the scope of government intervention should be inversely proportionate to the size of the entity it oversees.

No, but I think that in smaller jurisdictions that government intervention is more permissible and often positive.  That isn't the case with the FED gov.  It is easy to move to a new town, pretty easy to move to a new state, but pretty tough to move to a new country.

Eventually, people will settle where other like-minded people are at.  I feel like that is why are country was set up the way it was.

Yeah small minded and crazy people.  I've spent most of my life completely surrounded by people that don't understand my mindset and don't want to.  People settle where they make money and feel secure.  People who are the comfortable majority or people in secs make living decisions based on being around like minded people.

Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: 0.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.69

I prob should be farther to the fiscal-right, but answered a few questions with what I think people should do, not what the gov. should for people to do i.e. the "from each according to his ability... according to his need" quote.  I agree with the premise, but not the forces application.

Sys, you found it first!

Probably most. I've always thought people should be able to do whatever TF they want socially as long as they didnt eff with/ hurt anyone else. Def moved from right to left fiscally/ economics wise.

ec=-6.25&soc=-5.90

I would have argued in favor of 2A rights back then despite hating guns. Now, I'm 100% for repeal.

Economic score: -6.77
Social score: -4.09
Your score pegs you as economically leftist and socially moderately libertarian.

Economic leftists mostly support strict economic controls and programs to assure that the poor are elevated to a higher position in society.

Moderate social libertarians generally favor a hands-off approach to social legislation. They may believe that the government has no right to enforce morals, but may support certain controls on individual rights to avoid crime, drug use, or similar social ills.

I've moved farther left and less libertarian, but bubs had me pegged pretty well in the other thread, this is very close. I would have self identified as antifa.
