Offensively and Defensively what types of schemes do we showcase via ISU?
O: What are we attacking? I think we attack the linebackers and challenge them to make plays. I'm thinking more straight ahead running plays and our more traditional running style offense.
D: stack the box and make Barnett beat us through the air. They like to run the read option like we do. What are ISU's strengths on offense?
I don't think KSU will open up the playbook and I hope we don't have to. I think we dummy this game down and get back to the basics. Weather will probably play a factor, so let's keep it simple.
-
I hope we run that "pull two lineman to the strong side and then run hubert the other direction" play
-
Dangit I haven't scouted ISU as much as others this year and it's really limiting my feeling for this game. Does ISU run more of a spread formation or are they a 2 TE set? This is key because I think we are a much better defense with Walker and Tuggle on the field as opposed to Childs.

Scheme: show up, completely dominate weird/loser program, get the eff out of town before their unbearable stink takes hold

Punch them in the neck.

Last year Hubert had a big day against them and we did a lot of that with straight lead/power football. We are even better equipped to do that this year. Klein struggled a bit with only 3.3 YPC, but had a decent day throwing, going for 158 yards and over 10 yards per attempt, but only completed 50% of his passes. ISU killed us on 3rd down, ran the ball well against us, and Barnett hurt us a lot with scrambles. They also had a huge day on kick returns and forced us to kick a FG in the 2nd half after we had first and goal from the 3.

ISU was 9/17 on 3rd down last year and 2/4 on 4th down :sdeek:

Wasn't there and exciting fake punt opportunity or something like that...

Idk about you guys, but this is the most nervous I have been for a game all season. This Iowa State team has me scared. I'm just scared they are going to ruin our national championship hopes. It's been a while since I've been able to feel like this!
-
I'm just worried that it might flood and all of our players will get stranded in Iowa and get sick before the big game next week.

This is just the burden we must wear as front-runners in the race for the crystal football.
Soak it up.
-
What if they fake being flooded out but actually sandbagged really well and we don't show and they declare victory?

I'm sure we would appeal it, but we would probably be mumped. Damn, this sucks.

I am very excited to see if our outstanding line has the ability to reach the 2nd level and get the linebackers. I just hope we don't dick around and get cute with wildcat formation and try to outscheme them. We don't need to.

Is that loser still on their team?
-
Nope, Ter’Ran Benton was a Senior last year.
He's the fella that setup our win against Oklahoma State last year with an overtime interception.
-
Never forget. (http://www.kstatesports.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2005-2006/nov05.html) The low point at the end of Snyder 1. I'm sure he still remembers.

He set up your loss to KSU too.

I don't think they can sandbag really well

I think KSU should stack the box and make Barnett make plays through the air. If you are getting burned than I think KSU should blitz because the o-line did have some problems picking it up in the tech game.
I say KSU just has to hold the football and wear down the ISU defense. ISU will play a lot of d-line so if you can pound it early and take the game out of reach it will help. I wouldn't count on the power running game being there in the 4th quarter if the game is close. I am a little suspect of our DBs since they are small but they seem to cover well and play physical.

this is a really good plan .....forecast for severe weather in the pm, likely going to flood

Well, we did only average 5 yards per carry in the 4th quarter in Norman.
-
how deep is the ISU defense? I mean they've only played TTU and TCU and were racked with yards. I wonder if their inability to close out points would be a factor. If ISU gets worn down, how many players deep can they go? I would suspect that KSU has a better ability to close out points than TTU who is about to swap QBs or TCU who had their QB drop into rehab.

Part of the reason in giving up so many yards is due to time of possession. If you look at both the TT and TCU games they both had the ball almost 10 minutes more than ISU. ISU was able to get some quick scores against TCU because of turnovers but the offense does go through times when they have trouble moving the ball. It is pretty hard to discuss the differences between games since Jantz started one and Barnett started the other. Last year the offense was able to move the ball a little more effectively with Barnett or at least not go 3 and out most of the time.
Our line is pretty deep. There might not be any big stars on the line other than McDonough but quite a bit are rotated in and have played. Knott and Klein never come out of the game but they are pretty solid players. Miller is a promising LB for the future. There isn't that much rotation for DBs as there is some drop off. Keep in mind that in the last 2 games that the defense has been on the field for 35 minutes.

umm... that might be a problem for you guys against a Snyder coached offense? :dunno:

The bigger problem is turning the ball over. If ISU can limit turnovers that will help quite a bit and if Barnett can move the ball a little more consistently that will help also.
An ISU win usually isn't a dominating played perfectly played game. It is usually one filled with mistakes and some lucky breaks. ISU is usually their own worst enemy in most games. I understand that this is the complete opposite of Snyder football and if KSU doesn't turn over the football they will probably win.

FYI, Iowa State is not good at football. It better rough ridin' pour and tornado because kstate is vastly superior in all aspects. Iowa State is the same as Kansas State the same way Buffalo is the same as NYC
