Title: Watches
Post by: DOOM_Catz on October 09, 2012, 12:40:16 PM
I'm bored and wanting to spend some money. I've always been a fan of watches so I think diversifying my collection will be a good idea. Looking for a good young professional watch. Any suggestions? Price range is probably around $150-$600. Like I said, I'm bored with my life and my watch will keep me company. Or at least, keep time!

You could hire a driver to take you to Ames.

Not going to get much of a watch for $600.  Maybe just go on an all night bender for $250 and pocket the change?  :drink:

Watches are like scarves for your wrist.

Lots of help so far, so I'll continue....

This one is great, because you get a watch and a mouse to keep you company!

For me, one of the best parts of buying a watch is the hunt. Might get some ideas here:  http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/ (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/)

Saw this article today on a maker that seems to fall squarely in your range, although they run sales, too:  http://dappered.com/2012/10/win-it-the-christopher-ward-c9-harrison-automatic/ (http://dappered.com/2012/10/win-it-the-christopher-ward-c9-harrison-automatic/)

Also, well below your price range, but an interesting brand is Vostok out of Russia. In-house movements and I've heard that some watch aficionados wear one as their "beater" watch. If you're a Wes Anderson fan, Steve Zissou wore one (http://watchesinmovies.info/tag/vostok/).

The Christopher Ward watches are exactly what I'm looking for right now. I love the understated luxury in them. And I was looking for something with a band.

I like your holiday bowl watch. Don't get a new one.

I will be buried with this watch on my wrist. Just want to switch it up a bit.

I am going to find you, open up the face of your new watch and take a dump in it, then seal it back up.  Then it will always be poop o'clock for you.  Maybe quarter till turd.  j/k

I despise wearing watches.  "Hey everybody, I have a tiny clock on my wrist!  Hope I don't scratch it. :crossfingers:"  Pffft.

Symmetry of weight is very important for me.  Watches put me off-balance.

I've been kinda disappointed by my citizen perpetual calendar.  I've had to replace the capacitor once, while only a minor charge, it was annoying and a known issue.  Its also a bitch to set.

Huge arm muscles make this not a huge deal.

I've got pretty massive pythons and tiny wrists, which is an elite set-up for watch wearing.  Still, I'll have nothing to do with them.

You really stepped in it there CNS Casey.  Huge arm muscles and taste are mutually exclusive.  Nothing tackier in a man than big guns.  Two tickets to the gun show CNS Casey?  Not if you've got an iota of refinement.

The lady that I buy my tanning cream from and the guy who I buy my camo cargos from completely disagree with you.  What now?
