Title: Guys, I'm struggling with how to articulate just how far past KU I am looking
Post by: Pete on September 24, 2012, 02:38:27 PM
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out a way to really capture just how much I am looking past KU.  I dig down deep for the words to describe my feelings on this, and come up with nothing.

Until you brought this up, I couldn't have told you who our next two opponents are. I just assumed we had a really long bye and didn't play again until Oct 20th.

Honestly I'm a bit concerned about KU players taking cheap shots at our boys. I know some of the Rice University players were complaining that the 'Hawks got chippy towards the end of the game. If someone could confirm that Weis is taking the next two weeks to teach his team some sportsmanship it would give me complete peace of mind.

i appreciate the fact that the players have to focus on the next game...KU.

But I am not a player.

I have marked down a slew of Ws on my schedule and am currently focused on the the December 1 matchup against the Texas Longhorns.

Looks like a bunch of little speedbumps between here and there.

Pretty sure we can just roll the ball out there, not gameplan a bit, and beat KU by two scores just like TCU did.  Maybe worse.

Guys, how many scores should we let them get before we start playing?  I am thinking a million.  :dunno:

Would make the game more watchable.  Also, would crush their spirit more than just winning in normal fashion.

If we have a big first half, and Bill doesn't bench Sams quickly enough, we might break 80.

Bill won't let that happen.  Anything above the 60's is not in keeping with being a good sport.

Quote from: me talking to any KU fan I run into on Monday
How were we running it up? We played our second string QB the entire second half, didn't pass once, and never snapped the ball with more than 10 seconds on the play clock. It's not our fault Sams had 300 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Trying to remember the Mangino interview when he was on Snyder's staff, but basically said that when the team is practicing before the ku game, Snyder is actually practicing schemes, plays, etc. for the game after ku, but LHCBS is telling the team they're practicing for the ku game.

Well, I think that's a bunch of bull$hit.   Because during the majority of the time that Mangino was on the staff, the K-State vs ku game was extremely competitive.   It took Snyder 7 tries to beat ku really bad  and that was with K-State coming off a throttling in Lincoln.  Snyder lost to ku 3 times in his first 4 games against them, and while everyone rubbed one out when we beat them in Lawrence in '94 for the first time in forever . . .  and despite K-State dominating the game, ku had a chance to make it interesting but they dropped an easy pick 6.  ku came into Manhattan in '95 ranked in the Top 15.   Maybe by the Terry Allen era that was the case because we were overwhelming in terms of our firepower.

Make fun of Weis all you want, but he's not Terry Allen or Turner Gill, and despite everybody high fiving and giving each other reach arounds about Saturday night, that still ain't the Lynch Mob we're putting out there on defense.

This D is better than the lynch mob. It's just that offenses are so much better now than 10-15 years ago. It's like the Dream Team thing basically.

First off, there will never be a real Lynch Mob again because offenses are different, and people also forget that the Lynch Mob was exposed multiple times back then.   OU also fumbled on the 1 yard line . . . this defense is similar to what Snyder played when he first got to K-State, try to get the right people on the field, bend and don't break, try and create turnovers.   But they aren't going to shut anyone down . . . there were a couple of times back then when we held conference teams to less than 150 yards for the whole game.   Everybody would be giving each other handjobs if this defense could pull that off for one half against a conference team.

Our '97-'00 defenses could not have held current Big 12 teams' offenses to under 150 yards. And guess what, we made teams fumble on the 1 yard line back then, too. But back then people didn't construe it to try to make it sound like it was a weakness of our D.

Unbelievable amount of KU tuck fans have approached me (when I am wearing emaw gear) since Saturday night saying "Boy what a great victory this weekend for you guys! I have been a KU basketball fan for a long time, not football though, and boy it's great to watch Snyder's teams compete. I root for K-State in football all the time."

I mean this is nothing new, but it seems they are becoming more and more open about it, and delusional about how mumped up it is to literally ignore your team's football program because it is so awful.

This game is really important to Collin in the heisman race. He needs to pile up as stat fluff as he can before he is benched by halftime.

Sonofbutthurtjones is more like it.  We knock off a top-10 team on the road and Dax doesnt wait 2 days before he starts in with the doom and gloom/chicken little shtick.  What a sad way to live life.  (And no, you dont get a #.)

This D is better than the lynch mob. It's just that offenses are so much better now than 10-15 years ago. It's like the Dream Team thing basically.

'99 defense had like 9 of 11 starters make it to the NFL...there was more talent then, unquestionably.

When you only factor in BCS-AQ competition, KSU is 12th in the nation against the run allowing 2.29 yards per attempt.

Including the KSU game, Oklahoma is averaging 6.11 yards per attempt, and Miami is averaging 5.13 yards per attempt.

We are tied for 6th in the nation in fumbles forced and 3rd in fumbles recovered.

If you want to run on this team, we're daring you to do it, and we're daring you to do it while we routinely play soft zone coverage on the corners and play zone coverage with our safeties.

This defense is built to stop the spread, and it's why we're going to have a harder time beating TCU and Texas than we were OU and WVU.

Pete,

while I appreciate your Expectation to Win (Goal #13) and Enthusiasm (Goal #8), you need to show more Self Discipline (Goal #6) and provide some Leadership (Goal #15) and remember that part of Consistency (Goal #14) is taking it one game at a time.  Just keep sawing wood.

Thanks,

Catzacker

Make fun of Weis all you want, but he's not Terry Allen or Turner Gill, and despite everybody high fiving and giving each other reach arounds about Saturday night, that still ain't the Lynch Mob we're putting out there on defense.

Dax is spot on here. KU has WAY more potential under Weis. If we don't give KU at least a little bit of respect and completely sleepwalk through these next 2 weeks, we may be in for a rude awakening. I mean if we don't prep for them at all, there's a chance we might not cover the spread til like the 3rd or maybe even 4th quarter.

I'm definitely looking past KU, like way past them.  It feels weird knowing that the Cats' first "real" game is almost three weeks away.

I bet we beat those 'Hawks by way more than 30 and probably have our better players resting midway through the third.

I guess I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of #life that game.

I'm looking so far aheard that I'm debating if Gameday will be in Morgantown. In order for this WVU will have to be undefeated or a 1 loss team, because So. Carolina and Florida play that day as well. Basically, if WVU loses the more than likely fall out of the top 10, letting Florida make the jump in. You'd have to assume that Gameday is already planning on being at the FSU and Florida match-up though, right?

True Story:

In 2004, when we lost to KU for the first time in 13 years in football, I was with Catzacker in Lawrence at the game.  At the end of the game, he just looks over at me and says "Well, Jim Wooldridge just got fired."

He was essentially correct...the fan base immediately turned it sights to basketball, and became enraged at the idea (overnight) of not being competitive in basketball...AND Tim Weiser TRIED to fire Wooly that Spring, but Weefs stepped in and prevented it.  A year later, he was fired.

Should we all bet our immortal souls on this game?  Maybe the eyes of our children?

What would be a big enough bet when you are 100% sure you are going to win a game?

I bet $100, planning on betting more if USC wins and hits the over tonight, and I'm just a poor college student.

For a more elite :kstategrad: such as yourself I would suggest your house, car, and first-born child.

My wife and I were in attendance.  Walking back to our vehicle, I heard chants of same old K-State coming from behind us.  I turned around and politely said that if it was the same old K-State, we would have won by 40.  Still pissed about that game.....

If I had to bet on whether K-State would beat KU in football, OR whether I would someday die, I think it would hard to decide.  I think I have as good of a shot at being immortal as KU has beating K-State.

Does anyone have the contact information for key players on our team?  If so, please PM those to me.  I want to tell them all how confident I am that we will easily beat KU.
