I need an assistant at my other job (attorneycat). This person would spend a good amount of time shadowing me and learning a good chunk of what I know as it applies to this area of law and our office, and learning how to see things I do and get crap done. Basically a problem-solver. At some point, this person would effectively be an office manager and would also serve as my physical presence in the office while I work remotely nearly all the time.
Who I imagine this being a good position for would be a smart grad or soon-to-be grad (preferably goEMAW'r whose past posts I can evaluate) that maybe went through school but in a major that doesn't lead to the typical :kstategrad: job and is open to getting into something new. I expect that people who graduate in operations management could find a much more degree-specific job than this, but I feel like there'd be a lot of operations management involved here (or at least there should be).
I don't know; basically from either your posts or a quick pak I can quickly judge you and figure out if I can quickly mentor you to do this. I don't think it would be that tough for either of us. Job would be full-time in Wichita.
Post here or PM for more details.

Also note that this time, you will not find this same OT thread on GPC.

BUT ARE THERE BENEFITS, TRIM

BUT ARE THERE BENEFITS, TRIM
Oh, yeah. All usual benefits that go with a full-time career job. As for pay, I'm not sure. It won't be great to start, but it's a position where if you take my lead and do a typical EMAW job, you'll quickly make yourself invaluable and the pay situation can probably be remedied. I imagine I'd find somebody on my own and then pitch them and a good starting salary to the office. I'm winging this as it's a unique scenario that's developed.

WHAT ABOUT GOEMAWING ON THE JOB, TRIM
Well, I'd kind of be a hypocrite to say that can't ever happen, but I'd expect sd-like efficiency and everything being in great shape before I see the person combo-fanning it up.
-
Can I do this job from KC?
-
If Fanning can do it from KC, there is probably a lesser chance of losing a sexual harassment lawsuit than him doing it in Wichita. But your still most definitely getting that lawsuit either way.
-
Can I do this job from KC?
No, and you're not qualified anyway.
-

For others considering this position, understand that there is at least a baseline of fanning that is far outside the qualification window.

I'm pretty great at paking, probably way overqualified. Also, I'm not sure about the limited BBSing opportunities this job would provide. Seems like you are hiring someone to do your stuff so you'll have more time to BBS at work, while being able to directly monitor and mod his or her BBSing.
-
This sounds fun.

The assistant won't be doing any of the work I do, or at least should be doing. Sometimes I currently have to do some stuff that the successful applicant would do because others are dropping the ball. The long-term plan is that I'll be working remotely from a faraway location, and need an intelligent person who can be my physical eyes and ears in the office, which is why the person would be shadowing me - not to learn to do what I'm doing, but to think like I do and then apply that to their role. DNGAF how the job gets done, so long as it's done. If bbs'n is part of the job getting done, so be it.

Get over there with fanning.

-
Why do you need a physical presence?
Unfortunately, a lot of problems are averted or solved here as a result of me walking down a hall and seeing something and asking WTF. The successful candidate will be creating systems to avoid those scenarios in the future. Still, a lot of the staff here doesn't take accountability seriously and needs to have things physically put in front of them and completion demanded in person. There may also be things I'd work on remotely that need to be processed within the office and I'd rather have somebody I trust seeing to it that it happens.

I still think at least half the answer to your problem is a virtual assistant from elance.com or similar sites that have MBA grads from Mumbai and other areas working for $6 an hour. They could probably figure out how to solve your physical presence issue for less money than the time you would have to spend interviewing and training.

No. There will be a human being of my choosing seeing to it that crap gets done while I'm away. I'm fine with investing time and money into finding that person and setting them up to succeed.

Believe it or not it is realistic. I saw one at the last trade show I went to. It provides 2 way video/audio, and can be driven remotely.

I need it to operate independently though. The successful human/robot candidate will be getting a lot of crap done independently, without me having to drive it around and make its decisions.

Ah, you need one with an AI. That might be cost prohibitive/impossible.

ok. maybe like a Johnny 5 type then

we're going to look back at the day saul posted a link to a terrible looking non-robot and laugh our asses off for hours.
-
It would probably be easier to put each office/cube under constant video/audio surveillance. Also, direct access to the subordinates email and telephone would be required. Easier than the robot scenario, that is.
-
trim,
would the person that you are hiring be able to purchase a robot and use the robot to do the work needed or would a human body have to be in the office doing the work. cause if it's just a robot then sd and i would be willing to tag team this thing for 45k/year.
-
the robot will have to have a taser for motivational purposes only

I'm not going to surveillance or monitor crap. That's for the human/robot to oversee. I'll be working on other things.

You'd have to have a lot of faith in this robot.

saul, how much faith do we have in this robot? also, i would also be willing to physically make an appearance one friday afternoon per month if that helps.

I like the mustache on the second robot. I would grow a mustache and then go with that one Trim.

Worst thing that could happen i the batteries could die, or it would fall over on its side or something.

I'm eliminating robots (or humans working via robot) from consideration.
-
the robot has to be self aware
idk. i'm pretty sure that between the two of us, we have enough free time during the day to remotely control a robot in a wichita office. i mean yeah, there would be times where the robot was just standing motionless in a corner for an hour or something, but i think we'd still get done whatever it is that trim needs accomplished. plus i already said i'd be willing to go in for one half day a month.

Denied. He won't have enough time to do any of this low level employee mushing. I am going to keep him busy either cleaning up the place, or haunting others until they pay me haunt-protection money.
I would go with the Johnny 5 scenario. If for no other reason than because I would love to hear Johnny 5 fire someone in his sad(or even evil) Johnny 5 voice.

Trim, very interested in this position. I believe I'm qualified for this and this lines up perfectly on my desired career path. Only problem is that I'd need to work from a remote location.
Fanning, this is where you come in; I'm going to need you to do what I would be doing. Be my eyes and ears around the office, do what I would be doing, ect.
When do I start?

Not much. Pretty much just a rebounder and banger inside. Broke my wrist playing and due to joint shift that was not repairable by surgery, lost my shooting touch.

I would be willing to run your office 1.5 day a month, leaving early on the second day to go to pak for a 'cats ball game the next day. My salary would be airfare from Colorado, a rental car for my time in Kansas, hotel rooms in Manhattan and Wichita, and meals/booze. I come highly recommended and will not slap your secretary on the ass (yea, thats a jab at you fanning). Also, I would play on Strut n' Cut if the flights permit (I am an average basketball player).
How many days a month does someone generally work in your office, 22? Now you just need to find someone else for the other 20.5.
