I met oscar at the airport Wednesday on my way to Vegas ( btw) and greeted him. This is how I remember the conversation going:
Me: Oh hey Coach! Welcome to Kansas City!
oscar: Oh....hey
Me: I've followed you since your Illinois days, my brother went to school there..
oscar: Ohhhhhh..... ok (he was trembling at this point)
Me: Hey just wanted to wish you good luck on your trip, go get us some wins this!
oscar: Oh well, there are a lot of teams in Brazil...
It was absolutely the most awkward conversation I've had, and his thoughts are probably exactly the same as we post here on goEMAW. BTW, I did not see any of the Adorable Cats
-
maybe he is autistic, but not the genius kind.

For the love of eff, oscar Weber is our coach now, and we're going to have to deal with it. I mean mother of god, some of you act like we'll never win a game again. The meltdown crap was cute for like a month, and now I just want to shake some of you until you realize how rough ridin' stupid you sound.
kind of pak'd. Not apologizing.

Oh so a drunk kid making Potter references says we are stuck with a crap sack loser for our head coach and I should "deal with it"
Wow I feel better already

Im with meister. There's nothing we can do about it so we might as well give him a chance to ruin our basketball program before we condemn him. Unless JC is trolling this board. In that case EFFFFFFFFFFFFF...............UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
-
oscar is right. Wins in Brazil are absolutely meaningless.
-
Well what the eff are we supposed to do? I don't think some of you realize how insufferable you are with the oscar hate. Who could we have hired? I mean realistically, who? We obviously weren't going with a guy whose assistants still have sanctions or a goddamn tv analyst (though I think that would have been an interesting experiment). I'm a million times more comfortable with oscar on the sidelines than some garbage former kstater like jankovich or henson. But good lord, the weber hate has gotten absolutely fucktarded.
Also, lol at licktucky for using the filter.

Obvious because those weren't good options or obvious because the administration we're saddled with would never make a perceived risky move?
the weber hate has gotten absolutely fucktarded.
Is there really much weber hate? I think most of us are amused by him while hating those responsible for ending the best 5 years of KSU hoops a lot of us have ever seen and replacing it with Weber. If I "hated" Weber, I'd have been PI'n Weber at nutPAK, not Currie.

IDK, almost anyone who didn't miss the NIT 40% of his last 5 seasons with solid, fairly high level recruits.

Weber is a dumbass but it's not his fault he's our coach
-
Seems like we could have made an effort to retain our coach.
Seems like it wasn't necessary to drive him away and actively try to sabotage our roster. Dillard's, trash can receipts, and the Bosco experience, I mean wtf.
Saying its the best we can do is a joke, their never should have been a reason to hire.
-
Seems like we could have made an effort to retain our coach.
Frank deserves an equal amount of blame here.
-

Frank deserves an equal amount of blame here.
I wouldn't expect Frank to pull a Constanza and keep showing up to work.
-
i hate weber. it's not his fault, but i hate him anyway. and yes, we absolutely should have hired a tv analyst. we are naturally at a disadvantage, we have to think outside the box and make "risky" moves. huggs and frank were both ballsy and risky moves. and man, was it fun.
-
Also, it has been said before, but I don't think many people hate Weber, we hate that he is our basketball coach. He is obviously good at getting jobs to arguably move up in the coaching ranks in terms of a program's recent success despite getting fired from his last job. I love K-State basketball, and I hope that Weber proves me wrong, but I do not see any success in our future with BW after this year.
Edit: j-dub hates Weber for sure... but I don't think that is the prevalent opinion.
-
I blame oscar Weber for being oscar Weber, which can be a humourus thing when he is coaching somewhere else. I hate John Currie for thinking a oscar Weber is an acceptable coach for our basketball team.
-
:flush:
You wished for this KC and here we are. How do you feel now?
the toilet flush was for this thread you idiot. i'm excited for this season.

That's neat for you Kim!!!!!!

Hiring Huggy was in no shape or form a "risky move". Ballsy, maybe, solely from a PR perspective. But he had top recruits already on board, obviously is a great coach, and was going to give KSU attention in basketball for the first time in nearly two decades. It was a no-brainer decision. There is an immense difference between hiring Huggins and hiring someone like Gottlieb. I would have liked to see what Dougie could do as a head coach out of pure curiosity, but there's no way any sane AD was going to hire him.
-

neither of those moves were risky. huggins had like 600 wins and bill walker in his back pocket. we had to keep frank and dalonte to keep beasley, pretty easy decision.
-
Frank deserves an equal amount of blame here.
lol. what a stupid and uninformed thing to say.

The threads after each win where all the Weberites are all "I told you so" and the threads after each loss where the haters are all "No, I told YOU so" are going to get old really fast.
-
The threads after each win where all the Weberites are all "I told you so" and the threads after each loss where the haters are all "No, I told YOU so" are going to get old really fast.
we've had that for the last three seasons.
the only change will be the people flipping sides. people who hated frank pointed out and reveled in every loss and the people who liked frank glorified in the wins. people who hated frank will laud every oscar win and minimize the same kind of losses they ridiculed frank for while people who liked frank will ignore good wins for oscar and dwell on his loses. it will be a complete reversal of actors playing the opposite roles.
throw in a dash of posters who like trolling and will be contrarian to whatever the majority is posting and viola you have goEMAW basketball board 2012/2013
-

Don't forget about the ones discussing that nut who rode a bike onto midcourt wearing a #fatty4ksu shirt and a grocery sack over his head and wielding wire-cutters. After about 6 games of that, give it a rest already.

OK, so understand that people are going to be pissed and will be aware of, point out and mock Weber's inadequacies as a result of their anger at cowboy currie and his decision to get rid of Frank, not replace him with somebody who could keep the excitement going and probably the long-term winning, and pulling the chicken nuggets man out of the unemployment line and/or college of charleston and forcing him down our throats.
-
Didn't someone promise to drop all insidery deets about the frank v Currie thing by now?
Donde esta?

I don't hate the player, I hate his game. I think Weber is probably a delightful man. I just hate how he doesn't recruit for crap.

currie wouldn't have hired huggy.
also. i don't hate weber the man. i hate the situations that conspired to make him our basketball coach. haven't been able to get over it yet.

I can carry a conversation, not my fault Weber lacks any confidence to talk to someone not his family. In that conversation, there was no point I thought that he believed that we would win anything.
-
Guys, it was awkward because OlatheWildcat was having this conversation through a bathroom stall door.

When Nebraska, SMU, and South Carolina are making better hires than we are, this talking point can just go eff itself.
-
Nebraska didn't make crap and South Carolina obviously doesn't count
-

Miles sucks, but I would take him over Weber. Eustachy also would have been better, and CSU hired him.
Better than Prince!
-
i hated weber as a basketball coach long before he ended up at kstate. i just talk more about it now because he's at kstate and in my face 24/7. get him out of my face and i'll stop talking about him. that simple. go away oscar. nobody here likes you.

Eustachy would have cared about recruiting even less than Weber does. It would have been awful.
Miles...all things considered, I'd rather take a guy on the upswing than downswing, so I'll call that a draw (without digging too much into Miles because I don't care about Nebraska basketball enough to look). But it's not like many people knew who that guy was.

I'd rather get somebody I have to look up on wikipedia than some guy I was just LMAO'ing about losing every game in February, including getting completely embarrassed by Nebraska, only a few weeks earlier.
-
all you need to know about Miles can be found in my "Doc shits bigger than this clown" thread
edit: now that I think about it, it can be found in the title of my thread

Just because Doc is better than Miles doesn't mean Weber is also better. See my sig.

I agree about not liking Weber long before KSU. I thought he was a complete tool when he took over for Self at Illinois. Have always disliked him, and admired how shitty he was compared to Self. So, it's particularly painful to me that he is our coach. But, who knows, maybe he will quit sucking complete ass and be great for us!

pause for 5 seconds and go look at catchacold's sig, then turn them back off again.

Eustachy absolutely would have been better. It's not even close.

Is Tim Floyd available without show cause?
He would be better also.

Love that sd and mc have the same sig

Nope, UTEP is granted special treatment from the NCAA and can hire anybody they want.
You really should have picked up on that when we played them last year in Hawaii.
-
Is UTEP better or worse than Charleston? Are they similar jobs in quality, etc?
-
UTEP would have to be considered better with it presently being in Conference USA, plus they've got a lot of history there with their '66 team, Don Haskins, Tiny Archibald, Tim Hardaway, all that stuff.
I can't tell you off the top of my head what conference Charleston is presently in, Cremins being there certainly gave them some legitimacy. Andrew Goudelock, scorer's delight, could have played anywhere.

Yeah forgot about that :embarrassed:
So SMU and UTEP have better staffs than us!!!!!!!!

Christ people.
Lowery, Brooks, and Frazier, and yes oscar - I'm not going to write them off until I can see what they do on the recruiting trail for the next few years and see if the talent already in the stable can develop at a reasonable rate.
Etherington really isn't much to shout about right now, we've taken some shots at some high level kids for '13 like Harris(he also turned down SMU! :runaway:), Hart, and Wainright. I wouldn't call that encouraging but it's not the end of the world.
Still got a good shot at a solid class in '13 - Etherington(OK, fine), Foster, Parrish, and Atewe, and several other possibilities = would take.
-
The fact that '13 kids haven't trimmed us off their list yet doesn't mean that SMU and UTEP do not have better staffs.
-

Please tell me which recruits will be eliminating us off their list in the near future.
I try to follow recruitng fairly closely, so if you could fill me in as to which prospects currently considering KSU but won't be in the near future, that would really help me out.
-
Sure I would love to help,
You can start by eliminating all top 150's and anyone described as tough or gritty.
Look for soft pick and pop mid majory bigs and unathletic or recently injured scrap heap guards.
Hope this helps and saves you time and energy!!!!

I was looking for specific names of players but I understand that's hard for you to do when you really have no rough ridin' clue what you're talking about.
Here's some solid prospects KSU is curently recruiting, maybe you'll learn something, but I doubt it, you'll just keep spewing crap to be part of the cool crowd.
Marcus Foster - physical, athletic combo scoring guard - Top 3 of KSU, SMU, and Creighton
Sam Singer - Also has offers from and considering Miami, NC St, USC, and Nebraska, also considering Stanford and Cal. And get his, he's already turned down an offer from South Carolina.
Alvin Ellis - physical, athletic, versatile, known for being a defensive stopper
Hassan Martin - Undersized but physical and athletic 4 man. Also has offers from Iowa St, Creighton, Rhode Island, and receiving interest from Indiana.
Matthew Athewe - Athletic, shot blocking 4/5. Offensive skills a little raw, but be a very effective rim protector
-
Those offer lists are total garbage
-
Atewe also has offers from Memphis, Marquette, Auburn, Dayton, St. Bonaventure, Southern Mississippi, Duquesne, Charlotte, Marshall, New Mexico State, Western Kentucky.
Foster also has offers from Oklahoma and TCU
Vitto Brown has offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa St.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we are supposed to be working under the assumption that 2014 will be a much better class for Weber, right?
Is it accurate to suggest that he hasn't had "enough time" with the 2013 class?
-
In addition to his KSU offer, Demetrius Henry also offered by South Carolina, Memphis, Miami, USC, Mississippi State, USF, Illinois and Cincinnati.
Jordan Mathews has offers from KSU, Colorado, Marquette, Gonzaga, San Diego St, VCU, and Wyoming.
I can do this crap all day, it would be nice to get paid for it, but whatever.
-
Are we pretending Martin was some sort of great recruiter now? Is that the game?
-
Are we pretending Martin was some sort of great recruiter now? Is that the game?
Nope but we arent pretending that Weber is either. And when replacing the most successful head coach in your school's history getting a guy who can recruit would be nice.

Frank was successful here, kudos to him, he will be very tough to replace but Tex left for Washington 45 years ago. :frown:

I love that you keep up on this. I truly do. However, I am reserving judgement on Weber's KSU recruiting until he get commitments and fills his 2013 class. Could be wonderful. Could be crap. We''ll see.

Ya, agreed on everything except it's straight silly to call Martin the most successful in history. I'd say he's tied with Lon Kruger just among coaches I remember. (Don't really remember Jack Hartman's good teams.)

Foster - 6'1" shooting guard that will go to Baylor if they offer. Not ranked by many services!!! NEAT
Ellis - decent looking 3 star who seems to be a big 10 lean. ALSO LIKES STUPID HAIR CUTS
Martin - late bloomer who hasn't been exposed due to injury (see above comments). The Hurley boys at RI prolly have a better shot. Also at 6'7" 190 is more of a small forward project. Also if IU offers we are screwed. THANK GOD HE HAD A BROKEN FINGER!!!!
Atewe - is intriguing however it's been rumored that Marquette UCLA and Purdue may be targeting, if so we are screwed. Even if they do not st. Bonnie has a better shot than us. NOT QUITE A FRENCH VOLLEYBALLER BUT CLOSE!!!!!!!
Singer - 3 star is the only kid listed that I think we plausibly land. Not saying much since like I mentioned above none are top 150 and are mid majory. The gopo tweet that exuberantly states that "singer still lists kstate!!!" is encouraging!!!!
HOLY crap HE'S STILL LISTING US!!!

Nothing you posted indicated that any of those prospects would not be considering KSU in the near future and nothing you posted indicated that any of them could not be a contributor at KSU.
Baylor isn't even recruiting Foster right now, Texas was sort of earlier but that sounds like it's died down.
So like I said - Foster, Parrish, Atewe or several other possibilities = would take.
That wouldn't be a Top 25 class and I've said that we probably won't land a Top 25 class this year, but it still could be solid with some valuable contributors.
-
In addition to his KSU offer, Demetrius Henry also offered by South Carolina, Memphis, Miami, USC, Mississippi State, USF, Illinois and Cincinnati.
Jordan Mathews has offers from KSU, Colorado, Marquette, Gonzaga, San Diego St, VCU, and Wyoming.
I can do this crap all day, it would be nice to get paid for it, but whatever.
I love that you keep up on this. I truly do. However, I am reserving judgement on Weber's KSU recruiting until he get commitments and fills his 2013 class. Could be wonderful. Could be crap. We''ll see.
That sounds completely fair.
As you referred to earlier, the case could be made that this staff got a late start for '13 and as a result expectations should be tempered in this class. The immediate remedy for that would have been to go with a package deal on the staff, that obviously didn't happen, so we'll have to wait and see what will happen. Could be solid, could be crap, we've really sailed past any possibility of "could be wonderful" for this class.
Plenty of offers to high level kids in '14 like Custer, Kaleb Joseph, Matt Cimino, Larry Austin, Trevon Blueitt and Dwayne Morgan. We'll see how that plays out.
-
I said eliminate top 150 kids and look at soft/injured/mid majory athletes.
You proceeded to be a dick that can use google and produce a list with nobody in the top 150 who are soft/injured/midmajory
-
frank was a better recruiter than oscar. (NOTE: I NO LONGER PAY ATTENTION TO RECRUITING)

Which prospect is soft?
Every prospect I've listed in this thread has multiple BCS offers.

correct me if i'm wrong here, but didn't illinois recruit more 4 star and top 150's than the ksu cats post beasley? scratch correcting me. i just looked it up. illinois has gotten 9 four star commits from 09-11. frank had 2 four stars and 1 five star.
9. DID YOU HEAR ME? 9!!
good grief guys. forget about recruiting. weber is a loser.
can you imagine what frank would have won with all that talent at illinois (assuming he didn't frank them and get himself run out of town)
frank willed his teams to victory. oscar passes blame and makes excuses about losing
pretty damn simple really. (i'm aware that frank staying was an impossibility.) i simply wish we had hired someone who had not already proven himself to be incompetent.
-
Sure oscar got fired from a team with numerous pros and a lottery pick. So what.
He doesn't need talent to win. He won with crap sacks before. DIDN'T HE
Luckily he assured everyone at his initial press conference that he doesn't think he can recruit here because of it's challenging nature.
Which is a blessing because oscar was never the problem. No the problem was those pesky/entitled/soft 4 stars. Well I can assure you that he has learned his lesson and will not let it happen again.
DOOM ON YOU 4 stars

I didn't say Frank got more "stars" than oscar, even if it looks like he got more at KSU than oscar will.
-
Damnit can we get back on track. This thread should be about oscar's social ineptitudes not his shitty coaching/recruiting.

DOOM ON YOU 4 stars
Class of '14 offers so far:
Clayton Custer 4*
Lourawls Nairn 4*
Keita Bates-DIOP 4*
Jaquan Lyle 5*
Trevon Blueitt 4*
Kaleb Joseph 4*
MAtt Cimino 4*
Dwayne Morgan 5*
Larry Austin 4*
Yep, we've completely given up on 4* and above talent, and no I didn't need google to come up with that list
-
Yeah, saying UW needed google to go find these lists is sorta silly considering he pretty much single-handedly maintains all the bball recruiting threads on this site.
-
my hope is that oscar was serious when he talked about some of his mistakes at illinois. i don't think it takes a rocket scientist to see that oscar is pretty introverted and doesn't like confrontation on a personal level.
i do think he let some players and handlers walk over him a bit while he was at illinois in an attempt to not burn bridges and play them where they wanted to play. oscar wouldn't have dom'd dom. maybe he did learn and will adjust, but more than likely he didn't and can't (he's 55). i also personally think he needs an bad person on the staff and it doesn't look like he's close to having one.
time will tell but i just don't see how this is going to work. it's v sad for me personally.
-
You never used google to learn this stuff or you didn't use it to compile this particular list?
We also offered Jabari Parker.
You can google it if you need to.

I don't need google to tell me anything about Foster, Atewe, Ellis, Singer, H. Martin, Brandon Parrish, Wes Westicles, Damien Jones, Dustin Thomas, Trevor Thompson, Demetrius Henry, Vitto Brown, Daxter Miles, Jordan Mathews, or anybody on the list I just posted for '14
-
Neat!!!
-
Hey, you tried to call me out, just gotta let you know what the score is..
We haven't even gotten into Jalen james, Jevon Thomas, Isaiah Taylor, Payton Dastrup, John Crosby, and Will JOnes.
Try the recruiting threads sometime, they are a blast.
-
Are we pretending Martin was some sort of great recruiter now? Is that the game?
Martin was a great recruiter because he was good at finding players that he could take to the NCAA tournament just about every year. Weber was a shitty recruiter at Illinois because he couldn't even get his players into the NIT. It's not the recruiting rankings that matter. It's the ability to find players that fit your coaching style so you get results.
-
Scoreboard noted
I have never been more ashamed:(
-
Frank taking over with bobs guys is very similar to weber taking over with selfs
-

Really doubt this part though.

IF you don't like being an uninformed dumbass, then they might be helpful to you someday.

Right fitters !

not really if we are being honest
frank was bob assistant and bob was there for 1 year to build the program
oscar was never bill's assistant and took over after bill was there for a while
but I am probably just #butthurt
-
pretty sure frank started Blake Young, Clent Stewart, and Andre Gilbert (at the same time) his first year.
-

i don't agree (obviously). oscar got three future upperclassmen future nba guards along with two other future nba players. the really big advantage that frank got (imo) is the more/less already assembled staff along with greenawalt.
-
keep up the good work UW. Sincerely.
-
Damnit UW look at what oscar has done to me.
I'm not mad at you. I used to love your poignant and timely recruiting tidbits.
My butthurt is making me lash out.
It just won't go away.
-

Weber inherited the better situation, and Frank did much better after Huggins' players left than Weber did without Self's players.
-
That was a pretty awkward convo

I think oscar spent 20 years or whatever being the good cop to Keady's bad and it is unrealistic to think it changes. Lowery may have a little a hole in him and Chet was a tough and gutsy player so here's to hoping...

Illinois was rolling, Kruger had righted the program after the NCAA troubles, Self was coming into his own as a great coach - it was really close to a top 10 job when Weber got it. Bob was in Manhattan for like what, 10 months?
-

serves me right for thinking i could predict how stupid you could be. i will not make that mistake again.
-

yeah, except oscar went to the title game while we got our ass kicked by wisconsin in the round of 32
-
I think I may have spotted a few butthurt posts in this thread.
