How do I know this? Because he doesn't think he did anything wrong at Illinois! I mean my god, the man got fired and thinks it was just bad luck and he gave the school the best 9 year stretch in school history! The complete lack of self-awareness and acknowledgement of failure should scare the crap out of you weberites.
I think if you go back, it's probably the best nine-year run in the history of the school or at least close.

On what went wrong at Illinois last season…
We had a young team. Six freshmen and one returning starter. We had eight straight games decided by four or less points. We won them early and did not win them late. The disappointment of a lot of close losses takes its toll. It happens, we went through some growing pains, but ironically I was told that if we had won two games in the Big Ten Tournament, we would have been in the NCAA Tournament. Our RPI was high, we had eight or nine top-100 wins. Ohio State is playing today [in the National Semifinals] and we beat them. It did not all go wrong, but there were some pretty positive things there. I felt like we had a great foundation on young players and I felt we could have had a pretty good team in the future.

:sdeek: BURN IT DOWN!

Just joking. He's probably the best coach we've EVER had. :comeatme:
-
Maybe he will change on accident without realizing it :dunno:
-
He's like the anti-Frank.
-
Of course he won't change. You should have added the, We're going to run and gun and jack up threes... psyke quote.
-
I just really hope the illinois posters were right and that he will point fingers at players as the bus back over them in the press conf.

hard to argue with this, which, again, is why i was taken aback when he said the toughest question john currie asked him during the interview process was, "why kansas state?"
the toughest question should have been, "what went wrong, what did you learn, and how will you change?" you're right, i don't get the impression that oscar will be doing much soul searching over what went wrong at illinois. which is too bad, because i think he IS a good coach and can easily figure out what went wrong and why it went wrong if he spent some time thinking about it.

he's too busy guzzling fountain drinks and jamming convenience store food down his throat to be reflective.

He's effing adorable

BTW, fwiw, his hand shake looks pretty firm there. :eye:

j rake, he seems incredibly stupid and completely lacking in self awareness, so i don't understand what could make you conclude that he could easily figure out what went wrong.
i can understand why people like yourself might find him appealing in a "a puppy is cute because it does what it wants and doesn't care who's watching" sort of bumbling custardy way, but expecting him to change or figure something out seems far-fetched.

I'm with Sys. For him to find out what went wrong, he has to think something went wrong. The indication from the presser is he somehow found 6 freshman on his team this last season and thus lost too many close games. He has said his 9 years at Illinois were the school's best ever. He thinks he was blameless in it all.
-
Not to mention, he was 7-7 in games decided by 6 or less (or OT), so really wasn't getting screwed in close games either

we worked extremely hard at our jobs and just didn't win.
-
i take from it that things run in cycles. we were in a down cycle, though we have some young kids on an upward trend.

Mods, please change thread title from "BREAKING" to "E! NEWS STYLE CONJECTURE BROUGHT TO YOU BY MICHIsysMARIOLOPEZ"
-
he's 55. living is his main concern from here on out, not changing.
-
If this thread is just everyones opinion then here's mine FWIW.
oscar seems to feel like everyone was against him or conspiring behind his back. I know there have been times when I knew it was my fault crap went wrong. Although I didn't let others know it. Because in my mind it would have made me look weak. I knew what I needed to change. I just told people germane to the situation that I was correcting my mistakes. What do you want him to do? Have a presser just to hammer home his weaknesses and break him down further.

I want him to say "We made some mistakes at Illinois. We know how we want to address them and we will going forward. In accordance with this, chicken nuggets is number two on my list of priorities after keeping my job."

Willie is more dominant in this handshake as his hand is on top. Notice how oscar is leaning in and looking very eager, while Willie is back and relaxed, with a cocky smirk.

Perfect description of the situation, IMHO.

Agreed. That was the only part of this thread that made me smile.

Correct! Weber wont change. The excuses just keep pouring out of his insecure mouth.

oscar is the raging alcoholic who continues to blame everyone else for the mortgage not getting paid. Finally when he wraps his car around a telephone poll and you think he's hit "rock-bottom" - there's ADJC to give him a hug, tell him it wasn't his fault, fix his ride and hand him a no limit gift card to Rickels so he can keep pickling himself. It's only when the alcoholic realizes there is a problem - will they get help.
