I was catching up on the messenger bag thread, and the subject of where to carry your wallet was brought up. I am getting tired of A) the feeling of sitting on my wallet and B) the look of a stupid rectangle bulge in my non-JTKSU-approved pants. What do i do?
-
Stop carrying cash and get a bifold wallet.
-
Front pocket
-
I have a bifold but have been considering money-cliping it. My problem is I carry 4 different credit cards, gym card, health insurance card, DL and bank card in my wallet. I don't know if a moneyclip can hold all that. will probably just get a new bifold. someone suggest a good one for me.
-
I carry in front pocket at all times. I kind of have a costanza wallet and can't sit on it.

That's about what i use. Very small and doesn't hurt you butt so much.
-
I've also always had bifold

One of these in the front pocket. Harder for a hobo to pick it from you.

This one is 1/16" thick. You might be pushing it with that many cards, but it still should be better than a money clip.

I have too many cards. I need to be able to see the tops of all of them so that layout won't work.

sd, I have a bunch of extras at my place that you can select from next time you're pak'n here. MIR has first dibs though. And I can't wait for him to chime in on this thread. He's #TeamCheckbook and #TeamAsAResultMyCheckbookOftenGetsLeftAtGasStationsAndGasStationParkingLots

shut up. this is the answer- link (http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/clickatcoach-10551-10051-en-SMCO0006?cid=SMCO0006&partNumber=74381_blk&t=BLACK©URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.coach.com%2Fonline%2Fhandbags%2F-men_s_wallets-10551-10051-90-n%3Ft1Id%3D82%26t2Id%3D90%26tier%3D2%26LOC%3DLN%23101145%26viewpid%3D101145)
it easily holds ~10-12 cards and has the money clip on back. the one i currently have is still going strong 5 years in.

SD, look at Saddleback's credit card wallet
-
yeah...i dont want to carry my wallet in my front pocket. those pockets are reserved for phone/keys/ipod/whatever. I will consider a slimmer bifold and take a long hard look at which cards i absolutely need in my wallet

Try to find a coach slimfold, they are discontinued but the best imo.
EDIT: I just saw your Credit card requirement so this probably wont work well for you, but don't get an ugly Artist Collaboration series one

And if you gave it some thought, probably too cutesy for you, Mr. SD.

i've always had a bifold.
Also, i've had the same wallet for 5 years. Is that weird?

Have had one of those magic wallet thingys from Jcrew for over 10 years. I hate things in my pocket so anything big can GTFOOMP!. Will hold at least 4 CC's and DL and still pretty slim.

This is what I have, but mine is brown leather with a small powercat branded into it (barely visible). I carry it in my front pocket.
Just remember to put the largest bills on the outside. :gocho:

The only time I ever, ever, ever have cash is when we have donation friday at work so I bring a $5 to put in the bucket for whatever charity we are doing that friday or in vegas. Pretty much all cabs starting to take credit cards was one of the greatest things to ever happen to me. So, I really don't need the clip part of the money clip.

Really great, but they still get pretty mad at you when you whip out the plastic. I get yelled at and yell back regularly and give them the option of me paying $3 for this $28 ride.

oh yeah, they always raise crap when you pull out the plastic. I've had them say that their machine is broken and when I tell them tough crap I don't have any cash the machine suddenly works again. you are just going to have to pay some taxes like everyone else cabbie magee.
-
I get why SD relies so heavily on cards but I always have to carry some cash or I feel naked. Also, MIR is a checkbook guy? Weird. On the random occasion that I have to write a check, I feel like an idiot trying to fill it out. I mean, I know how to do it and all but I freeze up for a second when I first start writing.

The only reason I carry any cash at all is to settle golf bets. I could easily go the entire winter without touching cash.
-
I use a rubber band or a binder clip. Only carry my primary credit/debit cards and an id.

I evny people who don't use wallets. Just stuff whatever is needed for the moment. These people just do not give a eff.

Well, why do you bother to carry a satchel/briefcase/backpack and not put other stuff you need in THAT?
Seems ridiculous to stuff 800 cards and receipts into your pants pocket, doesn't it?
If you are going out socially, how do you need more than 5 or six cards?
Stuns, I think you are very strange.
-
I need 5 or 6 cards. different cards get different bonuses depending on where you use them.

Six pieces of paper add up. And I've never been asked to show insurance while traveling.

I use to do this all the time in class when the teacher is writing out something very long at the end of class and everyone else is frantically writing it down. I just wait until they are done, walk up to the front of the room and take a pic and sit back down. :gocho:

I can be smug at times, yes.
What's the point of being smug if you do it while walking out the door and miss the looks on the faces? :gocho:
I would also email the pics to anyone who asked. I'm not a dick, but sometimes I'm creative/witty and like to recognized as such?

WHERE THE eff IS THAT!? I want to store all my info and credit cards, and insurance and crap you stupid asses. if you crazy religousos are blocking this so help me god....

You would have to take all of the cards out of the binder clip to find the one you need, then put them back into the binder clip. Nobody has time for that bullshit.

Switch to the single fold. It's much thinner and much more comfortable to sit on. Don't get one with the little plastic sleeves for credit cards, though. Get a larger one that has slots for credit cards like your double fold has.

I switched to single fold a year or two ago and would recommend it.

belt wallet.
no. no way.
come at me muggers.
-
I have too many cards that I need to carry to go money clip. I'd rather do away with the cash portion of the wallett/clip. I currently have a coach slimline single fold that is pretty small and rides in the front when I'm going to be sitting for a long time and back when I'm not.
-
Tri fold til I die fold.
-
Keep my tri-fold rubber-banded to the collapsible stock of my AR.
-
so there was a rough ridin' wallet thread the entire time. the ONE time i assume i'm in the clear.

really hate them

both my wallet and my money clip have subtle powercats on them

Fanny pack (pak?)

I have too many cards that I need to carry to go money clip. I'd rather do away with the cash portion of the wallett/clip.
yeah, once i accumulate more cards i'm guessing the money clip will have to be replaced.
Do you need to carry all your credit cards with you all the time? Can't you just put the 2 or 3 you use on a daily basis in the wallet and leave the other 10 credit cards at home?

Me, too. Destroyed my driver's license. And then if you get a bunch of one's, you're mumped for a while, until you have no ones, and you're mumped again.

It's best to have all 10 at the same time because if you have a spur-of-the moment idea or some other emergency it's very inefficient to drive all the way home to get your credit card. eff that.

When is the cell phone wallet thing going to be more mainstream?

When is the cell phone wallet thing going to be more mainstream?
Probably never.

I had to pay for my friend's dinner the other day because her cell phone wallet thing wouldn't work. :dubious:

Seems like that stuff is always meant to make things faster but in the end the transactions are slower. Its like I was at a coffee shop in Phoenix where they ran credit cards on their ipad. Yeah it looks cool Ms. Hipster Barista, except my transaction took 3 times as long as it should of.

Poor execution then. When you think about it the strip on the credit card is really only sending a very small amount of information, like <1kb.

It's not designed to save time. It's so you can save money and carry less things.

Got a new one from a family member for Christmas. It's designed to be skinny, so you can only carry about 7 cards in it. It's great, feels like you don't even have it in your back pocket when I'm out:

I have always used the double fold wallet like this.
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/public/I3A49y3hpco2_RSXC0ysJi-KCkBddaqLCJGPS-6UX-Jq4d5gLD3Sjr_JxYg4x1rvL0TZD83Ml_FFmu7pTpheY9dHCtAhoPOWZxZn6UL_DVNm18AzSxcyGSTpQgKcWA6zYbS5_ZvGQJag2JLLxRx10nw6FTnrEIlFhU3YEChLNoiOi6EXfIbUR0DNBUu4DsHFtt0=s220-c)
I am debating switching to a single fold like this.
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/public/Pbluxq0QivHTeoxWo5xU9rHhQSWD_OEMVVGcY8aqezZcf5-OpslAtL7hEg_NMBn_Eu36V50Tsd2NJZemmLyD7wZ4qaO0BdsgjMhcfSSSPPPF6gIgUllmhNhkckanbJXzX-Q_xFj-zPUuS_LivMGo=s220-c)
Any recommendo's?
I switched to single fold a year or two ago and would recommend it.
Pretty sure the top one is a trifold and the bottom is a bifold. And yes, the bifold is far superior. You'll never catch me slippin with a trifold.

money clip in the front pocket. plenty of room for cards all my elite membership cards and credit cards.

Back pocket bifold here.

I have a leather Iphone case that carries a few cards. Eliminates one thing from my pockets. Also, I am a front pocketer. Never felt comfortable sitting on my wallet all day and was worried it would fall out when I am sitting.

To me, a wallet just doesn't feel like a wallet unless it's in a back pocket. Kind of like a can of Skoal (quit that crap years ago). However, I sometimes switch my wallet to the inside jacket pocket if I need to wear a suit. Bifold, BTW.

I prefer the bi-fold over the tri-fold but my mother-in-law buys me a wallet for Christmas every year and sometimes it is a bi-fold and sometimes it's a tri-fold. I don't complain, I just use my free wallet.

i have always done keys front right, cellphone front left, wallet back right.
but now with the money clip i can put it in the front right with the keys and it's not too bulky. so now i don't have to sit awkwardly on a wallet.

yes efficiency. also I typically access my phone with my off-hand while my right hand is performing other tasks.

Some real knowledge being dropped in this thread. I've always done it a certain way and never really knew it was because I'm super efficient.
-
have an old fossil "magic" wallet. the magic is starting to wear off, and am open to suggestions to a replacement. need something pretty elite and slim. don't carry too much, some cash, a debit card, one CC, DL, ins card, and maybe any applicable gift cards I have received. (love gift cards, btw, going to start a thread on them now)
also, wallet back left pocket, phone front left (samsung galaxy sIII  ) keys front right (never leave pocket due to push button start and automatic locking/unlocking feature in my elite ride)
-
Back right, bifold. Front pockets are for my phone (right) and keys (left).
Are you left handed?
No. Are you?
No. I put my keys in the right pocket and cell phone in the left. I was just curious if jtksu was left handed since he does it opposite.

I'm actually ambidextrous but I obviously use my right hand to start my car. I like my keys in the left pocket because I tend to sit with my left leg crossed over my right leg and the phone feels awkward if it's in my left pocket.

it would take an extremely deep leg cross to bring my pocket contents into play. please post a selfie of your lower body in this position.

I don't know how you guys keep your keys in your front pockets. I keep them in my coat pocket, or but them on a desk or table until I leave. In very extreme conditions, I put them in my back pocket.

Just a regular cross legged position, left ankle on right leg, close to knee. I didn't say the phone inhibits the leg crossing, it just feels weird.

No, no money in it. Was gift-wrapped while still in case they shipped it in. Fine with me, that wallet wasn't cheap.
Also, no belief in my family that if you gift someone a wallet there should be cash in it.

I'd place my key ring size at average. Possibly slightly above average if only males' key rings were taken into account.

I probably carry more on my key chain than most. Only a few actual keys but two key fobs up the ante quite a bit.

I've tried a bunch of different wallets/clips.
Tri-fold and bi-fold. Worked okay but so bulky.
Tried money clip and binder clip. Worked okay but I'd have a tendency to misplace due to smaller size area, and didn't like idea of slipping credit cards in there, so tried carrying money clip and a slim card holder. Now I had an extra thing to keep track of.
Got one of those magic wallets from J. Crew:
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.polyvore.com%2Fcgi%2Fimg-thing%3F.out%3Djpg%26amp%3Bsize%3Dl%26amp%3Btid%3D56478648&hash=35876295ddc7f8b182283bd74a58f7057d5a3c4d)
Holds the $$ nice and tight, 2 credit cards + DL + open slot for random card if needed. Can slip in a couple of business cards opposite the $ and it's still less than 2/3 the bulk of my bi-fold with the same contents.
Only downside is that I think the elastic's going to wear out eventually. But you can get them on sale for like $5, so if I get a couple of years out of it I'll be happy.

I used to, but now I have a routine so I always have a pretty good idea of where they'll be.

I've had the same billfold bifold whatever since I was 16 (20+ years). I am afraid to get a new one because I feel like I have some sort of world record non lost billfold streak going and don't want to jinx it.
-
This thread really took off. I have been using a tri-fold, front-right pocket, with keys. I have small keys. Good not great. I will consider bi-fold now.
How does anybody that's right-handed put their keys in their left pocket? Weird. Your right hand grabs the car remote, apartment door key, work door key, etc. Your left hand can open a text or check scorecenter or call the GF while your right hand does the other stuff.
-
On roadtrips I will take my wallet out of my back pocket and put in the console or somewhere. But during the normal workday, it doesn't seem to bother me in the back pocket.
I put my keys in my right pocket but when out but I never leave them in my pocket at home.

Do you guys do the thing where as you're leaving the house you like tap your front and back pockets to make sure everything is there? Or like if I'm in a place with shady people I'm always rubbing my pockets to make sure no one pick pocketed me. Probably comes off as creepy but whatevs.

normally i would love to own up to something clever like this but no, Jakesie, i am not that knowledgable about wallets and can't figure out why it is called a tri-fold.

ohmygod all the time. sometimes i audibly say "check, check, check" for the 1-2-3 of keys-phone-wallet. This is why when there's a fourth thing, like an ipod or a rent check, i lose them/forget about them. :frown:

i basically constantly do this. it's essentially on the same level as breathing for me at this point. i have the utmost confidence that i will never misplace my phone, wallet, or keys (unless i'm super wasted, which has happened.)

3 pocket check, no doubt. can't imagine living any other way.

trifold because it is folded into 3 layers. bifold folded into 2 layers.
i suppose.
-
Wallet back left pants pocket
Skoal can back right pants pocket
Pocket knife front left pants pocket
Cell phone front right shirt pocket
Pen front left shirt pocket
Keys go in basket at home and top left desk drawer at work.

I will definitely be converting from tri-fold to bi-fold.
-
I 3 pat check almost constantly.

3-pat checking is like yawning. Emo EMAW sees you 3-pat check, and Emo EMAW 3-pat checks himself.

Ottomans are made for ankle crossing, not leg crossing.

not tons of it, but usually 50 cents to a dollar, if it gets too full it gets dumped in the jar.
Still, can't imagine sitting on my wallet any more. I used to but stopped when I got out of high school.

Do you guys do the thing where as you're leaving the house you like tap your front and back pockets to make sure everything is there? Or like if I'm in a place with shady people I'm always rubbing my pockets to make sure no one pick pocketed me. Probably comes off as creepy but whatevs.
Yes!! I feel like I'm a third base coach giving the hit and run signal.

I'm always a back pocket guy, except when I'm in a place with shady people or a really crowded place, then I go to front pocket to prevent pickpocketing.

Ya that's a good move. Really only do it if I'm in a Arab market or something. Pretty much has to be international for me to do that.

Most likely to do it when I'm not as comfortable somewhere. Packed bar in MHK: back pocket. Packed bar in Wichita/Lawrence/KC: front pocket.

Did not read a single post in here but anything other than a front pocket with attached money clip is wrong.

Anyone have any experience with something like this?

mine is sorta similar and i like it, the only thing i dont like is i cant keep cash for very long. because it keeps it so flat the folds in cash get to be where they almost rip. so if i do keep cash for awhile i have to keep folding it in different ways so it doesnt fall apart.

I have a Sena leather phone case/wallet and I don't think I will go back to another wallet form for a long time.
-
Got my front ID Saddleback Wallet and I don't think I'll be looking for another anytime soon.
-
I have a very classy brown leather bi-fold that I've had for several years, given to me by WM Bro.
The kicker? It has a powercat branded into it.

Don't your phone and wallet poke you and/or try to stick up out of your pocket when you sit down?
-
The other day I picked up lil Emo and put him on my lap and he looked at me and said "no daddy phone." He doesn't like sitting on my phone (as he shouldn't).

No, never. Sounds like a weird chick clothes problem

Yeah I think it is because guys clothes have deeper pockets.

It's true. Facts say that women's pockets are only 77% as deep as men's pockets.

LOL, but actually I think it's more like 40%. The jeans I am wearing right now have front pockets that end above the bottom of the zipper.

my cell phone case is my wallet

i don't miss leg day. no way a wallet is going up front

one of the best unforeseen advantages of going places with mrs mocat is i dump my wallet and keys in her purse when we go places together

Read my post above about the phone getting pushed up/out of the pocket when you sit. And then you have these big bulges in the front of your pants. Gross.

I'm 95% sure they must give males deeper pockets. probably cause no purse.

Our pockets are more on the side too.

The only time wallet goes front pocket is athletic shorts that obviously lack back pockets and its just so weird. No idea how people could do that all day, t&ps

Wrong. Switch those.

a wallet is like a pillow. it takes years and years to wear it in enough to be comfortable and then you don't let go until it either disintegrates or gets too much puke on it.

"years and years" should never be used when describing a pillow. that's rough ridin' disgusting.

I have the older version of this and like it. You can carry about 7 or so cards. Cash is a little bit of a pain but I don't use it much. Get a couple spare bands because they will wear out over a year/year and half. The shipping on them is twice the price of the band itself so best to get when you're buying the thing initially.
I don't get the back pocket people. I don't want to sit on my wallet all day.
-
wallet in front right. phone in front left.
That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Keys front left, phone front right, wallet back left.
-
I ordered it yesterday :frown:
My reservation is I don't carry a lot of cards, mostly just id + 1 card, so I don't know if it will retain just 2-3 cards properly
-

Add a condom or something.

The band should be pretty tight and you won't wear it out as often as I do. Mine is the thicker one which would require more cards but that one is probably fine. Throw a business card or sub card in there if you have to.
-
Yeah, I have filler cards I can use (sup Kstate id discounts)

wallet in front right. phone in front left.

keys with phone in front left. I'm not a janitor or anything so they both fit just fine together in one front pocket. the only time I ever put anything in a back pocket is if I'm at a place where I know I'm going to be pulling out cash quite a bit. cash bar, casino, etc. then I'll just keep some bills back there but good lord a whole wallet in a back pocket? no thanks. no thanks at all.
-
Hmm, I put the keys with the wallet, seems like you're "playing with fire" ricky d, I don't care if my wallet gets scratched.
I suppose putting your life on the line everyday for the citizens of Riley Co just isn't enough danger for a man like you tho
-
You can wash pillows
As opposed to buy new? Why?
-
You don't just buy a new pillow every few weeks, good grief SDK
-
Keys - front left, wallet - front right. No practical reason for left vs. right other than that's how I started as a kid when getting a wallet out was more prevalent than getting keys out. When wearing jeans (most days), phone goes in back pocket while not sitting and is out on desk/bar/table when sitting. For loser shorts or pants, phone goes in front right pocket with wallet when not out. Suit days, phone goes in interior coat pocket.
-

Not sure about wallets, but this is correct w.r.t. pillows. I bought a new one but then had to switch back because it was too thick.
-
My #1 pillow is very old because I can't find a replacement firm enough. :frown:
-

I get new pillows every six months? I've never washed a pillow. Maybe I'm the gross one.
-

Fair enough. I have a couple that are in rough shape, but I love them too much. I keep 6 pillows on my bed. All of differing firmness depending on how I'm feeling.
-
i don't miss leg day. no way a wallet is going up front
do you think these "men" wearing their wallets up front do it so they won't be reminded of how little ass they have when they reach back? i do, i think that's the only reason.
-
Phone front left, keys/wallet front right. Don't go anywhere without
-
Sometimes I switch left and right wallet and phone. #norules
-
I put my phone in my back right pocket sometimes.

I do everything you just listed. WOW!
-
keys on the right you mutants. your hand is on the right, your ignition is on the right. any preper worth a damn is keeping his keys in the right front pocket.
-
Who uses keys? I guess my car key but it's this weird looking black thing, certainly not a key in the traditional sense.
-

probably the same people who use comfortable pillows
-
'clams I have 1 car key and 2 work door keys
-
I have to use a key when I get back from the gym because I'm not allowed to open the garage door after lil Emo goes to bed. My garage doors/openers are awful. Like they are mumped up / not working properly. A part of me is concerned they are dangerous.
-
grease that bitch up with an epi and you should be gtg

I don't even carry a house key because none of my doors are locked

:dunno:
Exactly what a burglar would say!
-
1) I live fairly minimalistic and have basically nothing of significant value. The last time I was robbed (dog locked in the basement) they took about 10 Blu-rays, a laundry basket, a broken kindle, and a broken Xbox360.
2) burglers don't usually pick the house with the snarling/barking dog going all crazy when someone approaches the door.

came in the mail this weekend. i like it but i don't. the band has no problem securing 2 cards, but then you have these weird fins sticking up in your pocket. i've got 4 cards and 2 20's in there and it still needs another card or two so the top is flat. super rough ridin' light and small tho and i really like that.
came with an extra band too
