I suppose I hold OR% too near and dear, but I'm embarrassed that we went to Lawrence and had one of the worst rebounding performances in the history of BIOQBB. Horrendous, pathetic, or terrible don't do the effort this team put forth on the glass justice. I can handle not hitting shots, but to get whipped that badly on the boards is tough for me to take.
This team can be fine, still can win 10 league games, all of that. But for what I've come to expect from BIOQBB this just ticks me off.

I've never seen you this angry :frown:

Frank haith has never won in Manhattan!!!

I've never seen you this angry :frown:
I can't excuse poor, soft effort. Can't.
-
junkyard hawks  they have to resort to this brand of basketball.

It's really amazing we cut it to 3. I'm not sure if that says more about us or KU.

says more about KU ihmo
effort can be fixed though, lets hope it is

Was kind of afraid of this. Self was jacking them up about effort all week.
Still, shouldn't have been that bad.

when you get beat by almost 20 or whatever it ended up being. it doesn't say much for the losing team.
it was a typical performance in afh. get punched in the face early and often, pick yourself off the mat when the other team is taking a break from punching your face in, and then they go back to finish you off.
-
it doesn't matter if we lost by 30 or by 2
saturday will be a different game on both sides of the ball

It can be, and I trust that it will be. We won't have many nights where we end up 14% worse than our season OR%, or a night where we allow an opponent to be over 20% better than their season.

Is MU going to '08/'09 Baylor us at home?

No.
Or at least I hope no.

they have a similar team, no? not sure if baylor shot it that well (consistently) that year, but IIRC, they bombed us out of the place we play basketball in. the opening stretch of conference has a 08/09 feel to it.

remains to be seen, although the OOC would point to that. but "being better" doesn't mean it won't be a NIT/bubble team. and MU is entirely better than that Baylor team, imo.

Damn, this sucks.
-
These appear to be "ratios"or "percentages", perhaps even "the fundamentals", from a bad performance.
-
95% of what happened out there tonight sucked.
1 thing that didn't and maybe it was posted in another thread, but I'm too lazy to search for it, it's great to see Gruds get that "get me the damn ball, I'm getting a bucket" look in his eye.
Really think he can be that aggressive and productive on a nightly basis. Just do it Gruds.
-
Man, did you see his dunk!

crap guys. what if they '61 mu bball us. or seven years ago in fball fresno state fball us. or even maybe even 1923 ku us like even they did in fball. i mean wow guys. let's think about this and talk about whether it might happen. seems pretty relevant.
-
How on earth did JO only get 4 points out of all that

I really hope the first half/second half pattern we saw before Diamond Head isn't going to continue to manifest itself through conference play.

Someone should tell him he's allowed to do that as we're getting mercilessly violated in the first 10 minutes of a game.
-
Man, did you see his dunk!
Yeah, great finish and helluva pass from Sprads. Unfortunately, that was 1 of the few bright spots for Sprads tonight. :frown:
-
Sprads was pissin' me off immensely tonight. Probably more than anyone. Way to take charge, there, Assassino Bianco. No, no, I said "take charge," not "take a charge."

i don't think it 95% sucked. i do like the fact that rod was agressively going to the basket and looking pretty decent doing it. angel was prob in over his head in terms of going up against taylor et al and that environment. after watching tonight, i'll assume kstate will beat ku in manhattan and that's the first time i've ever honestly thought that.

JO looked fantastic early, but his 2nd half
More than anything though, just 4 boards, Withey had 9, JO can do better than that.

5 of Whithey's boards were on missed FT's, three on balls JO or Jamar fumbled that rolled to Whithey.
Whithey is awful and will be a non-factor in every game not played in AFH this season, JO is much better

I believe you are right, JO is better than Withey.
Unfortunately, JO's overall performance tonight did not demonstrate that.
He'll have plenty of opportunities to bounce back.

LOL @ how hard Jeff Withey owns Sugar Dick.

Beems, I'm happy for you, since you said you'd rough ridin' lose it if KU lost to K-State in AFH this year.
I think it was worth the loss on the court to not lose you on the boards.
-
i missed the first five minutes, when kstate lost the game, apparently. but in the 35 minutes i saw, kstate didn't play poorly. ku certainly had something to do with that, but even so, both ku and kstate looked like top 4 big 12 teams. rest easy, basketball fans of kansas.
-
I didn't like Frank putting Gipson on Robinson in the first half. JO did a much better job on him in the second half.
-
I have NEVER seen a team more careless with the ball, and we lost to them by 18

Just look at the rebound totals to find your answer.

Also that Rod wide open three miss was so deflating. Turning point.

I missed the first ten minutes, but I agree.
The rebounding upset me, but this team generally folds like a tent in AFH after tip, so I wasn't surprised.

Heh. Its funny how people think I'm overreacting here; people should know by not I don't tend to overreact. Its one thing to go to Allen Field House and get beat badly, that's happened plenty. However, this was a historical beat down on the boards unlike we've ever seen under Frank. I probably overdo it, but the stat I look at constantly is Offensive Rebounding Percentage. KU was at 57%, we were at 27%. The margin there is 30% better for KU. In Frank's tenure that is the worst margin ever, and its not even close. The next worst was a 13.5% margin vs Loyola Chicago. Only 5 times have Frank's teams even allowed a team to be 10% better on OR%, but last night KU was 30% better on offensive rebounds. I'm sorry if that's inexcusable to me.

I don't think you are over-reacting. This was very uncharacteristic for a Frank Martin team. I know many here will disagree with me about the following, but nonetheless I think it's true:
We did not lose last night because of a talent differential between KSU and KU. KU played better basketball, but overall they did not have better players (prob not worse either).
-
It was a lot like the Florida game last year.

That game was purely a shooting issue though, the JYC stats were pretty much equal. I guess I don't like getting dominated in any JYC stat, especially OR%.

I don't disagree with this, but KU did have the best player on the court, and that makes a difference. But overall there isn't a big discrepancy. I think we should beat them in Manhattan.

KU's guards' athleticism caused problems for all of our guards except Tay. I felt like our players were playing better than KU's (except for Robinson) headed into the game, but KU's athleticism + effort overcame their guards' carelessness with the ball and poorer shooting than you expect from KU guards. They made up for their inconsistent shooting by blowing by our guards for layups, getting o-boards, and locking down defensively. It was a fine display of using superior athleticism/strength/effort to overcome shaky jump shooting--a page right out of K-State's playbook.
I expect a K-State win in Manhattan, due to improved effort by the Cats and the decreased comfort level of the shaky KU guards in the OOD.
-
I blame the refs
-
Also, Taylor is far better than any of our guards.

"you would be hard pressed to find 5 better in the country"...

It's disappointing because we all know that to beat KU at their place we are going to have to "out effort" them for loose balls and on the glass. We didn't even come close.

He is the absolute polar opposite of Will Spradling, I wonder how I would react to Taylor if he was our point guard. He's played 8 games against BCS conference teams he has 45 assists and 39 turnovers in those games. He's 35-86 from the field and this includes a 8-10 shooting performance against USF and a 9 assist 2 TO game against USC. If included LBSU and Davidson these numbers would be much worse. To me this is borderline unacceptable for a senior point guard that has played a siginificant role for 4 seasons. I love guys with the ball that make things happen but holy hell he's careless. I'd expect when Will and Angel are seniors they wouldn't have numbers like Taylor's, but he's undoubtedly talented.

agree with all of that. never really been a fan of his, he always does something stupid in each and every game. Sometimes multiple times a game. I just really don't know who else to put in there. I'll go with the company line and say "at least he plays aggressive" :grrr:
