http://www.kitchenkc.com/2011/12/k-states-martin-i-dont-take-guys-out.html
hey moron, martin isn't saying he doesn't take players out for mistakes if they have practiced well previously. he's saying he won't take a player out for dribbling off his knee, but he will if a player doesn't know where he's supposed to be.

Frank Martin is a misunderstood man, in reality he's a modern day Eddie Sutton/Kelvin Sampson.

Might as well pin this thread the title can be reused plenty during the season

to be fair, Martin is kind of being a dumbass, too:
"I don't take guys out because they make mistakes," Martin said. "I take guys out because they aren't doing what they're supposed to do.
Not knowing what you're supposed to do is kind of a big mistake, I would think.
But it's really all semantics.
-
I thought the "Martin yanking players is bad" talking point went out the window with Pullen. Nobody got yanked harder than him freshman year. But just like the "omg frank drops f-bombs" seems like retards still think it's an issue.

There's already an official Kitchen thread, dumbass.

meh. it was easy to understand his distinction. easy for anyone except dumbass bloggers who proceed to write 3 rambling, unreadable pages based on their density and still can't understand why none of the area newspapers will hire him.
i'd be more sympathetic to the idea that martin is lying and takes players out all the time, for a wide variety of reasons.

At this point I'm sure he's doing this for the sake of the board. Does he not realize the gap between teams who make the sweet 16 as opposed to those who don't make the NIT?
With a week off now before a final nonconference game versus Howard, the question will be whether some of the treasures KSU uncovered in Waikiki were for real (if so, this is a Top 15-20 team with more upside to be had considering not all cylinders were firing), or more along the lines of Jim Wooldridge's fool's gold.

He has to be, this team isn't even close to a Wooly team.

I agree, but Gilson DeJesus, Tim Ellis, Pervis Pasco would all get minutes.

I don't think he's comparing the team to a Wooly edition. I think he just thought it would be clever to use the "Wooly fool's gold" line to describe the possibility that their play in Hawaii was a fluke.
Maybe I'm wrong and I'm Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)-blind after his $10 donation to BBBS.

Not close to a Frank Martin type. Wooly had plenty of players who would be amazing Frank players like the ones you mentioned also Cartier, Hoskins, and Massey. I also think some Asbury players like Manny Dies and Quentin Buchanan could do dome good things with Frank. That being said this team would beat the piss out of any of the Wooly teams. I'd equate Clemson or UTEP to Wooly teams.

Using the term "fools gold" as it relates to Wooly doesn't refer to his teams being male genitals teases, I've only heard it used in reference to how Jim once referred three point shots as. So i read it as "a Jim Wooldridge team who famously thought three point shots we're fools gold.". If he is using it like you're reading it, which is possible, then its equally stupid because this team has accomplished about 100x of that of any Wooly team ever did in the non-con. Not even close, a ridiculous comparison.

I think he was trying to say that the Hawaii play could be an aberration, and he chose "Wooly's fool gold" as his term for aberration because it seemed insider-y, but that he didn't mean to compare the team to any aspect of the Wooly era.
-
wooly, of course, thought the 3pt shot was fool's gold. kitchen is obviously ignorant of this metaphor or he just doesn't care. the Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) theory is also plausible. it is somewhat entertaining though as EMAWs spend hours attempting to discuss his incoherent ramblings.

jfc, retards, trim is right. it's a "was this the exception or the rule" question.
hey, any of you know a good plumber in Pratt? jfc.

True. And it's clear it's the exception. This team isn't nearly as good as the one that won in Hawaii or at V Tech or handled Alabama or even much of the game vs Huggs. Clearly the team we saw in the first half vs Charleston So is what we should expect to see in the Big 12.

I always want to stay out of these threads because I'm essentially defending a friend, but I think you're all reading way too much into the metaphor. Wooly generally racked up a lot of wins by beating bad non-con opponents. While he didn't beat @VT or Alabama on a (technically) neutral floor, a lot of folks would think we were turning the corner in late December...until we started getting drubbed in conference.
I don't think you guys need to dissect this any more than that. He's writing to a K-State specific audience, and he's trying to put it in relatable terms to the majority of our fans. We're the mavens. Of course we're going to over-analyze the comparison and say it's invalid. But to Joe GoPowercat, he's going to nod his head and get it.

Honestly I think it was a poor attempt at humor or a pun. However, the question I have is why write to the LCD? There are plenty of writers who appeal to Joe Powercat. Is that something Andy Katz would do?

I don't have a big issue with Kitchen, I just don't think it was a particularly good metaphor, though it was a good effort. My first reaction was to compare this team to a Wooly team, the appropriate comparison would be to Frank's NIT team.

I doubt he was wearing a tie when he wrote it.

he's just a poor writer with no particular insight.

No beef with Curtis. I'd equate it to your "beef" with Huggins. The issue isn't so much the subject himself, but more so how he is viewed by humanoids and how the narrow view of these idiots attempt to change the proper narrative. BTW your Huggins lovers and my Kitchen lovers are the same damn people.
