depends on the part of the state, but usually vinegar.
-
I like a good rub on the Boston Butt, before it goes in the smoker. If it is cooked right no sauce is needed. Don't care if your from Kansas or Arkansas that is the truth

Craig's BBQ in Devalls Bluff, Arkansas---tops all BBQ Arkansas or Kansas City on this list.
That said, a trip to Craig's will reinforce every stereotype about Arkansas you may have (Arkansas native or Kansas native).
So, give it a try. You'll have great BBQ and even more ammo to bring here against us on the forum.

True story, went to a meeting in Arkansas once where they provided bbq: END MEETING. NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN.

This definitive work on BBQ doesn't even mention anything from Kansas.

I have a hard time taking a pigfucker's advice on restaurants on any kind. Seems like the whole "no shoes, no shirts" rule would seriously limit their dining options. :dunno:

maybe you should take this as motivation. maybe start a band that includes yelling and/or XxScreamingxX about the pains of being a person who has so much love and yet doesn't get enough of it. maybe put it all in the context of a car crash. i'm sure it will make your dad finally realize, "hey, i don't pay enough attention to my fabulous kid" and finally teach you how to throw/catch a football or baseball. Go get em.

When I was in Austin a goEMAW Austin native took me to wait in line for 2 1/2 hours for Franklin Barbecue. It was super delicious but I kept wanting to use the sauces which were not good. I guess its just hard to break your bbq habits. Seriously though, the most tender brisket I've ever eaten.
-
Andy Bourdain put Okie Joe's in his top 10 list of best restaurants in the world.
IN THE WORLD.
Zagat named Fiorella's Jack Stack the best barbecue house in the world.
Playboy named Arthur Bryant's the best restaurant in the world.
I mean really, just take your pick. Hard to decide which KC bbq is best, but they're all 1000x better than the disgusting slop Arkansas calls bbq.
-
been to Craig's in Arkansas for BBQ---didn't like it. Too much vinegar in the sauce.
Grew up too close to Texas, prefer tomato based.
But, living where I live now--I'd give anything for some good BBQ! (and Mexican food--can't find any good salsa and margaritas!)
It's been a while since I've been to (or lived in Arkansas)--can't remember all the good restaurants.
But whatever you do, don't buy into the hype of Rendezvous in Memphis. It isn't all that...

Now I have to agree JAck Stack Kicks Ass, Also that on in the Northland in NKC.. That has the awesome Burnt ends.. My mind is blanks, been there once, had to get there at 11 am to get some, the sale out they are done. Damn what is the name of that.

i'm guessing the place in the northland is Smokehouse BBQ in Gladstone, it's ok. BBQ is hard to be consistent. jackstack and okie joes are the most consistent places in town which, to me, makes them the best.

I used to work near LC's and my officemates were fanatics. I never understood the appeal. This was even after they got shut down for a while (I don't know this for a fact) and reopened serving worse quality food.
-
Going to Bubba's near Eureka Springs has been a bit of a family tradition when down that way, is there any other places that I need to try in the NW Ark area?

BBQ wise?
no
if you ever make it to Fayetteville, go to the Catfish Hole. i don't like catfish, but their shrimp and hush puppies are awesome. and everyone says their catfish is the best they've ever had (out of towners) just a warning though: arkansas memorabilia is everywhere.

Nope the best in the northland is Smokin Guns down in Northtowne on about 9th and swift. Used to only be open like 11am-6pm M-F since they did competitions every weekend. (there are hundreds of trophys and ribbons in the place). Finally last year they opened on saturdays and now stay open late enough to actually eat dinner there.

That's all well and good, but can they make a McRib?
A better question would be "can they turn on a microwave?" BTW, love me some McRib.

Arkansas BBQ is terrible. :goodbyecruelworld:
lived here for almost three years and still can't find any that's worth eating.
was craving some recently so we went to famous dave's.
screw you you piece of trash
WTF DUDE?
WTF DUDE?
Don't worry about this guy, Jay. Happy to have you here.

But whatever you do, don't buy into the hype of Rendezvous in Memphis. It isn't all that...
True that.
Ok Joe's, Stack, and LC's are all far superior than that memphis trash.
LC's is terrible now. it has been for the past few years, i think there was a management change and they now serve dog meat.
That's unfortunate. LC's was pretty good when LC himself was actively involved in the day to day operations. Dude was getting so fat, he probably had to give it up.

Whole Hog Cafe: World Champion BBQ based in Little Rock.
http://www.wholehogcafe.com/home.htm
There's 12 of them, from New Orleans to New Mexico.
2008 Memphis-in-May World Championship, First Place Overall, Third Place Ribs
2002 Memphis-in-May World Championship, First Place Whole Hog, Second Place Ribs
2000 Awards Memphis-in-May World Overall Championship, Second Place Ribs
2000 Tunica Rivergate Festival, Grand Champion, First Place Whole Hog
Springfield Area Rotary's Rockin Ribs BBQ Festival, Grand Champion, First Place Whole Hog, First Place Shoulder, First Place Ribs
I'm sorry, we may agree on Arkansas.... but I have NEVER had a good meal at whole hog, and I've given it several chances. Hell, I even get better food at Sassy's Red House (or whatever) than I do at whole hog. It is always served cold, and it doesn't matter if you have 6-9 sauces if they all suck.

ok, truly good BBQ doesn't need sauce. Sauce is just an added benefit!
Next discussion--slaw or no slaw on your pulled pork sandwiches??

Denied.
Memphis can keep their pulled pork for all I care, but if I was forced to eat some pulled pork slathered in some disgusting sweet sauce, definitely no slaw.

Memphis can keep their pulled pork for all I care
You lost all credibility right there. :nono:
False. Pulled pork can GTFOOMF. Carolina can keep their pulled pork too. Pork is for ribs and sausage.
-
and sausage.
Go back to Texas, you damned hobo.
-
pork is for all things delicious.
evidence: kc bbq.
counter evidence: ark bbq.
verdict: the goodness that is pork will not be ruined just because some hillbillies think they know how to cook.

Yet further proof you don't know jack crap.
I WILL NOT LET THIS BECOME A KANGAROO COURT WHERE PEOPLE THINK THAT PEOPLE WITH NO TEETH THINK THEY CAN COOK WHOLE FOODS.

I like bacon. :peek:

I can make some delicious pulled pork with a can of coca-cola and a crock pot.
