it's like he was put here to deliberately try and deny us nice things

i agree that it would fit well on mass st and that the people that frequent it probably would as well. i am taking his comments as a compliment to the chef and those that frequent it until proven otherwise.

Breakfast In Aggieville Reply
What is the best place to have breakfast in Aggieville? In the past we have had the scrambled eggs at Kites but I'm thinking I'd like a more substantial menue.....Gotta be able to get bloody Marys though.

Wow. Didn't realize Kites even served breakfast, sounds truly awful. lol. Was there a white chowder substance sprinkled in on top? Were you jittery after eating them?
In all honesty try The Chef, which is the best place to go, or Early Edition, a distant second but better than Denny's or IHOP.

Coco bolo has a great Sunday brunch. Would be a good idea to break it out on Saturday or a smaller version of it.

The Chef... It's not in Aggieville but they do serve booze. Get there early because usually a line. Even if you have to wait a while, order a cocktail and relax. It's well worth the wait.

Re: Breakfast In Aggieville Reply
The breakfast at Kites has always been typical steam table scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravey and bacon. It's about what you would expect but not inedible.
Thanks for the tips.

Well, that's a first. Bob's serves good breakfast? Maybe at 3 am. There's a reason it's much cheaper than everyone else.
I guess I don't find the Chef "upscale". It's a well maintained place with outstanding food, if that's what you mean. It's no more expensive than any really good breakfast joints that I've eaten at across the country.

Bob's is drunk food at a bare minimum, and anyone that with a straight face tried to argue it's GOOD food any time of day is likely a senior citizen, no offense. lol. The Chef is no more expensive than Denny's or IHOP and it's made with more care, better ingredients and just damn tastier than anywhere else. It does try to be trendy, but i certainly don't think they are snobby nor 'upscale'.
Varsity Donuts? meh. The dough in their donuts, sucks, just because you put maple icing and bacon on top of it doesn't make it that much better. And it drives me up a wall that they have their stupid side business of bike rentals. wth? this isn't a beach resort or a vacation spot, sorry. No clue what they were trying to attempt with that side venture but it's ratarded.

Re: Breakfast In Aggieville Reply
Dude, I eat at the Chef every Friday morning so I obviously like it a lot, but I wouldn't say it's by far and away the best breakfast you could possibly get in town. You probably won't be able to do it on a Saturday, but if you're still in town Sunday head to Coco Bolo's and try their brunch menu, and for sure get a bloody mary while you're there 'cause they make 'em IGNORANT GOOD.
I think Early Edition is just as good as the chef. The restaurant is borring as hell, and there's more old (and by that I mean legitimately, really old) people there, but the food is great and you won't have to wait in line two hours.
And I'll throw this in since it keeps popping up in threads. Anyone suggesting you go to the Lou obviously not been there in ten years. The Lou is like eating something horrible like Bagel Bites, or a Hot Pocket. They were awesome when you were a kid but if you ate one now it would just scald the crap out of your mouth and give you diarrhea. I am sorry if I offended any of you old-timers, but if you're looking for a dive, townie-bar there's better spots.

I'll definitely check out Coco Bolos, never knew that had a breakfast menu. I'll disagree that Early Edition is just as good, i've had some bad meals there, there are still really good things on the menu ( love their avocado ranch ) and they make awesome Beglian waffles, but they used a lot of processed ingredients , don't ever get the Monte Cristo there, it's beyond awful.

Thanks mywilly but any average-sized city has 150 better breakfast places. I wonder if those saying its good just haven't actually eaten anywhere worth a damn. That place wouldn't stand a chance in a place with good breakfast options.

150 huh? lol. Good grief, you don't like the place and think it's so so , i get it, yeah i'v been to better diners, breakfast spots in bigger cities. But guess what Einstein, Manhattan isn't a metropolis and doesn't have 150 breakfast spots ( gross exaggeration in general). The question was asked what the best place to eat an early breakfast was in THIS city, not the world. But i guess you missed that part. Sorry it's not up to your superior palate.

Uhh, this is just a guess, but I don't think anyone was suggesting the Lou for breakfast. They don't even have food there, never have, sans pickled eggs and hot mama's. Liquid breakfast, yes, food, no.

HA! I started this thread because I was going to have breakfast with my grand daughter, a freshman. However, we didn't start until 7:30, so I called her and changed our date to dinnner. Janice and I had egg sandwiches at the Topeka gas/food stop from Dunken Doughnuts.
Dinner was at Hibachi. I could have picked another venue but I felt like having beans and rice.
HOWEVER, I am going to try the Chef, so the thread was not wasted. Thanks.

I mean he takes two runs at The Chef because of its unsavory cast of characters AND its price points?
Good God Bob, just move to Salina or Wamego or Topeka or something.

I think post is enough of a joke with him pimping the Garden Inn. Trying for the downtown redevelopment kudos a little hard there, Bob? You enjoy your milk carton eggs and one server that restocks the buffet and doesn't look at any guests. I'll enjoy the quality.

Bob Strawn letter to the editor:
It's good to see that Obama is doing something about pork
To the Editor:
I understand the president will soon regulate pork in all delis, including those with Jewish roots, even though they currently don't offer pork, pulled or otherwise. The administration is attempting to stop discrimination against non-Jewish customers at all American delis. Furthermore, the pork must be sold free, if it comes through a Jewish store. It's not clear if non-Jewish stores will be required to sell it for free.
This regulation is supported by 60 percent of those polled, including large numbers of practicing Jews. Jewish religious leaders are fuming. But the administration says that Jewish leadership has been consulted. And further, it points out that Jews don't have to buy the free pork. They just have to be offered the pork for free.
Americans clearly favor moving forward on the free pork initiative as shown by the American Cattle Association's endorsement. Why the cattle industry favors free pork is not clear at this writing, since they have no beef in the matter.

I interpreted it as being about bibles in hotel/motel nightstands. He is being sarcastic about them. He thinks they are offensive to have them there for non-Christians and that they are essentially being "offered" the religion.
Just another case of Bob Strawn making sure the people don't have zealot-esque religious views forced upon them.

Man oh man. How did I miss this? Mods, there's some good stuff around page 45 of the GPC Wabash Station thread that should probably be included here.
He's rough ridin' awful on the Mercury boards. Well, pretty much everybody is. But it's a goddamn train wreck and I can't stop reading. There was one Fake Patty's Day thread where a few people were posting the Bob Strawn memes and saying they were gonna make t-shirts and he threatened to sue because he copyrighted the image on his website. One guy was all, "sorry, that's not a picture of you, that's a picture of tmcats, and you've said you aren't the same person, so....sorry. emaw." Then someone else was all, "uh...............I didn't see a copyright notice on your website, Bob. Where is it?" Then someone else changed the image to, like, his face on a shamrock with text that said "Kiss me I'm tmcats." LOLs were had by everyone except him, then I think he complained to the Mercury board mod and they just nuked the whole thread.
Anyway, just for good measure:

The funny thing is one of Bob's (tmcat's) great crusades aside from trying to put an end to Fake Patty's Day was for Manhattan Mercury posters to post under their real names.
And when they went to the new format, they did that, requiring you provide a full name, local address and phone number, in which a member of the Mercury staff calls your house for a verification check before granting posting privileges.
Bob also quit posting over there after Obama won the election, so coupled with the fact that no idiot in their right mind is going to give all their personal info out, now it's like Hadley and two other dudes that talk to themselves.
-
I know, it's not nearly as fun to troll anymore. Or even really possible. :frown:
And Hadley was (is still) so weird. My goodness.
-
tmcats/Bob Strawn writes weekly editorials for the Manhattan Free Press. They were a treasure during the fall. He is also running for City Commissioner per his ad at Kimball/College.

Strawn nightmare (http://themercury.com/articles/hotel-is-struck-by-armed-pair)
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle, described as a late ‘90s to early ‘00s pearl white Cadillac DeVille with tinted windows, in the vicinity that morning. Police added, however, they were not sure whether the vehicle is related to the robbery.
well if that isnt the most :opcat: thing ever :sdeek:

OP should change thread title to include a reference to Bob Strawn losing last night's city commission election.

MHK seriously dodged a boblet last night with Strawn going down. Can you imagine how fast he would've tried to outsource The Chef's employees to Lawrence where they might be more at home? Good grief. Anyway, celebratory orgy in my front yard tonight if anyone's interested. Pregnancies for all!

nice to see the city commission is moving forward with the kaw indian chief art piece proposal atop the presently bare 4th/bluemont limestone pedestal. when finished, he'll be able to hop off and run over to a new mcdonald's soon to be located on the circle for his mid-morning snack.

Moving the present McDonald's to make way for more "redevelopment," I believe. The new one will be pretty close to the roundabout. Ought to be interesting.

oh wow. that whole intersection(s) area is so messed up already. it's like a bad haircut that you cut more off the top and then realize that you have to take some off the sides too and then trim the bangs and then oops you trimmed too much and then the next thing you know you're just bald. that's how that whole area that used to be one intersection that turned into two that turned into three is going to be. on fat bald head.

Bob may have just admitted to being the dumpster diver in the Jamar receipt gate. :horrorsurprise:

He needs to answer the question
-
For the bandwagon Kansas State fans like myself can someone please explain who Bob Strawn is?
-
Former mayor who tried to kill fake Patty's and apparently ended the Frank Martin era at KSU.

He needs to answer the question
Nah, he doesn't. It makes too much sense that he was working for Currie to find dirt to run Frank out of town with, he always shat on Frank. I hate that Jamar had to be collateral damage in this. Every time this gets brought up it needs to be reiterated that Jamar, nor the program were ever found by the NCAA to violate any rules. Currie suspended him, on his own.
I hope captain crap read that twitter thread today and got a little sad about the fact that he was on here stringently defending Currie's actions.

like OF COURSE it was Bob Strawn. it's mindblowing that nobody put it together before yesterday. like, "oh who is the interloper that cratered Jamar's career and the Martin era at K-State?" like, it was Bob Strawn, of course. Duh.
this was an episode of scooby doo.

Bob and Fitz get into a twitter fight, Bob threatens Fitz with a libel lawsuit, Fitz blocks Bob.
According to Fitz it was all due to a now-deleted tweet. Pretty fun!

I was actually following this live last night. It was a real hoot. Fitz blasted him and said he was the one that turned in the Dillards receipt to Curry. It was pretty great. I was pretty disappointed in Fitz for deleting the tweet. He redeemed himself about 9 seconds later though when he retweeted a porn site twitter account and below it said "followed by Strawny". I laughed my balls off.
-
yeah, that was hilarious
-
Crazy that bob strawn is a real person and not a character like cyclone larry or something
-
oh man

fitz has done quite the reverse heel turn the last several years.

The porn retweet was so great. Bob had to be fuming. Especially since this came just few minutes after Fitz said Bob text him about suing him.

one time fitz had an irl local celeb attorney get ahold of us threatening the same. iirc trim told him we'd just do whatever we want.

Not quite, I obviously told him the magic words of “do whatever you want” but yes that was with respect to that we’d likewise do whatever we want (including doing nothing, as we do (don’t?)).
-
i didn't know mhk had celeb attorneys that weren't also gE'rs

If Bob hadn't claimed to be the trashcan digger earlier this year, crap never would've blown up on him. He now claims it was in jest but whatevs Bob.
-
He had way too many details for it to be in jest. He 100% did it.
-
it is very funny that Bob Strawn is trash can man.
-
seriously though, what are the odds that he is strolling by at that exact moment?
-
Here's the thread where he trips over himself.

He still acts like his racist suspicions were vindicated, despite Jamar being cleared by the NCAA.
-
Not surprisingly, fanning involved himself, got blocked by Fitz, then posted a screenshot of him sending Fitz a Facebook message, only to be blocked there as well.
