Thanks michigancat. Feels like I've really earned this one. Like all my hard work is finally paying off :lick:

'Grats. That's big. Wish they'd come here. They don't like us though. They like KC though.

What are the liquor laws like up there? Can they sell booze in grocery stores?
-
We're next :gocho:
Trader Joe’s, a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores, plans to open a store in the metro area, although no specific location has been named yet.

Oh yeah. Prolly the best liquor store I've ever been to is inside/next to the Hyvee. It's ginormous and you just wheel your shopping cart full of apples or whatever into the booze side and shop your ass off. They have a guy dedicated to micro brews and a wine guy that will each answer all your questions and special order stuff. Very elite.

Sounds amazing. That's why (or at least one of many) reasons why we won't be getting a Trader Joe's anytime soon.

'grats SD, very elite- very, very, elite.
i actually emailed them about 6 months ago and lobby'd them to bring a store to kc. so i would like to take some credit if and when they do come to kc.

Oh man I love Trader Joe's. Great cheeses. Just terrific.

God damn it. I am so jealous. I do half my grocery shopping in MO just because of the booze.

Hey SD next time you come to manhattan plz load up on 2 buck chuck and call your good old friend y-l_a. he will buy for 3 dollars a bottle.
-
life is good for doc, doom and the daves.

SD, don't pretend like it was all you, it only took 10 months of the RC living in the 'maha to get the TJ's here, I knew I was elite, but not THAT elite. Any location specifics announced?

THIS!
Two buck chuck is amazing. I worked in Irvine for awhile and discovered it out there.
Also, it's a good wine for making sangria.
-
Is it going to be near the Dean and Deluca's? Wish my TJ's was closer to the D/D. Real pain sometimes.

Us old school EMAW'ers prefer the downtown KC Cosentinos. Just feels more authentic and traditional.

we have a medical center 'specially for those pasty mf'rs and now we have to purchase their goods? wtf
Great get for sd and Omahanians in general. CO doesn't even have one but I think the market might be too competitive with the home growns. :dunno: SFM's are popping up like taco bells. Either way, I've had some of the TJ brand hummus dips and I would "like to have Trader Joes made available to me"
-
So, as many of you know, I have been in the Bay Area for the last 5 days scoping out Trader Joe's for the Omaha metro area. As many of you also know, I like making pizza at home but don't like making dough. Well, this just happened:

Sometimes I go to trader joe's when the line is too long at Rodman's or Dean & Deluca's. Or if I'm just in the mood for second-rate pizza dough.

they screwed the pooch on that one. i don't blame TJ's as much as I do RED Development (jackass east plaza company). they sold them a bag of goods with both locations being complete crap.

I think Ward is a formerly elite center that is on the cusp of some great things. It's not like there is anywhere to build it on plaza and Brookside could be the most expensive place to build/open a new place in the city. Makes sense to me and it's not a horrible from west plaza.

ya i've thought about it a little bit after discussing with some friends and agree they haven't done too bad. brookside/waldo is the first and obvious choice, but they already have two boutque markets (brookside and constantinos).
south plaza on main street (near where the double dragon used to be) would have been the elitest for me. nothing on west plaza is zoned corrrectly for a TJs.
i hate any new development in south leawood.

Now if we can just get an Ikea ... the metro might be free from the ridiculously vocal pining of the world's most annoying consumer demographic.
Those honey sesame cashews are going to change your life.
-
Going to need reviews/input from KC users. Both locations are 45min from my house. Not sure I can say it would be worth it???

You're going to want to go to the Mizzou one because they will have booze (unless KS has recently changed their weird liquor laws).
-
neither location is worth a 90 minute round trip drive. it's a rough ridin' grocery store.

There are stores in KS that have the liquor under the same roof, but seperated by a small glass wall, same in Massachusetts and there are plenty of TJs there.

Thought so. Never been to one.

Don't really care either way about TJ's. I will say that I do love their coffee, a good amount for cheap price. Also cheap wines.
Other than that, I couldn't GAF.

if they'll put one on the ks side of kc, they'll be in lawrence within 5 years. probably before we even get nbaf up and running.

If you like a good hoppy ale, try the Mission Street Pale Ale, only $5.99. Just be sure to wipe the top really well before you take your first drink, the cap leaves a metallic taste.

I am doing some research on a company that has a location in Omaha, Trader Joes. and i was wondering if anybody on here that lives in omaha would be willing to exchange a few e-mails on their perception on the new stores.

I believe this is up to the individual county or city whether or not to do this. Look for higher DWI rates due to drunks racing to a "2am county" so they can chug a few more Busch Lights.

Nice consolation prize. Fresh Market is a good alternative to Dillons and Wal-Mart Market. All you need to do is look at the comments from the hayseeds to know it is a good choice for the great smelling portion of Wichita. Of course I got out of the hood and moved to the elite West Side. Not sure if I want to be a drive by target and drive through filly's thuggish hood to buy some fresh capicolla

If we freshpak, we can take the long way around and go over on 96 and back down Rock, which should keep us sufficiently away from the danger zone.
I'm more concerned with whether she decides to bring some of "those people" to MOAP2.5.
