Such a tease.

Some things that stand out...
1) Texas will likely be the best overall defense we've seen all year, thought OU and aTm have slightly better run defenses. It will be tough for the Cats to move the ball, but I think Snyder and staff will have an adequate gameplan to get it done. The positive is that UT has only been average at forcing turnovers. I'd say 25-30 will win this one.
2) Both teams feature great return games, but both teams have lost their best returners in the last two weeks. However, K-State has beenbetter in coverage. Either way the return game will be a big key in establishing field position for this game. In other STs match-ups both teams have solid punters and kickers. ST will likely be the key to this game, but its hard to call who has the advantage.
3) This game could come down to turnovers, and K-State was fortunate to lose TO margin last week and still win. However, last week was the only Big 12 game K-State has been negative in TO margin. UT has only had a positive turnover margin in one Big 12 game. This should be an advantage for K-State and I don't think we'll see a repeat of last week.
Key per play stats:
UT Off yards per play: 6.65 (#60)
UT Off points per play: .42 (#46)
UT Off TOs per possession: .024 (#60)
UT return game yards per return (KO and Punt): 21.22 (#7)
UT Def YPP: 4.72 (#13)
UT Def PPP: .32 (#32)
UT Def TO forced PP: .027 (#51)
UT return def YPR: 19.48 (#89)
KSU Off YPP: 5.13 (#90)
KSU Off PPP: .49 (#21)
KSU Off TOPP: .018 (#20)
KSU Ret YPP: 21.11 (#9)
KSU Def YPP: 5.92 (#90)
KSU Def PPP: .43 (#84)
KSU Def TOFPP: .032 (#22)
KSU Ret Def YPP: 16.54 (#29)
This will be a tough game (again), but I see no reason to pick against the Cats. I think we are the better team and we'll show it in Austin.

I agree that both teams may struggle to move the chains, so field position and turnovers will be key. We know Texas will focus on containing Klein's mobility, so how do you think we'll address that?

Like the last two games I'd expect us to throw more and vary formations. Last week we also ran a lot less option/zone read stuff, it will be interesting to see how we gameplan with that. But as the game goes along if we see UT sneaking an extra safety into the box like aTm did, we will have to throw the ball.
Also expect to see something new wrinkles in the running game out of the zombie/single wing/Kleincat formation.

Anyone know the status of the Texas running backs :ohno:
From Monday:
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/index.html
Items of interest from this week’s Longhorns depth chart for the Kansas State game:
It looks like Malcolm Brown, who’s missed the last two games with a turf toe injury, will be back in the starting lineup. He’s listed atop Joe Bergeron —- who missed the Missouri game with a sore hamstring —- in Texas’ “either/or” starting spot at tailback.
Jeremy Hills is third-team, followed by D.J. Monroe.
Fozzy Whittaker suffered torn knee ligaments in the first drive, and is out for the rest of the season.
Against Texas Tech, we were told that Brown would be available to play if he was needed. Last week, we were told that Brown would wear a protective boot when he wasn’t at practice, and that he (and Bergeron) would be available to play against Missouri —- if they were needed.
Texas, running with Hills and Monroe, struggled. The Longhorns rushed for only 76 yards, on 29 carries. That’s an average of 2.6 yards per carry.
Neither Brown nor Bergeron played.
Jaxon Shipley, for the second straight week, is listed below DeSean Hales in the either/or receivers spot. Shipley’s been out since late in the first half against Kansas, with a knee injury.
At left tackle, Tray Allen will get the start Saturday ahead of Josh Cochran. It’s Senior Day for the Longhorns, as seniors will play their final game at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
Middle linebacker Keenan Robinson, who left the Missouri game with an injured thumb, is listed above Steve Edmond as the either/or starter for Saturday’s game. It wasn’t known after the game whether Robinson would miss any time.
Texas has 22 seniors. As a class, they have gone 36-12, including a 19-6 record at DKR.

More on UT injuries.
This was from a live chat with the Daily Texan Wed:
Are Malcolm Brown, Jaxon Shipley, Joe Bergeron or Keenan Robinson healthy?
Austin Laymance (Daily Texan):
Brown is still battling turf toe. I would be surprised to see him carry the ball on Saturday. Shipley tweaked his knee, and he didn’t practice last week. And Bergeron is dealing with a tight hammy — he’s the most ready to play in my estimation.
Christian Corona (Daily Texan):
Turf toe injuries, like the one Malcolm Brown has, and hamstring injuries, like the one Joe Bergeron has, are tricky. A player can feel fine, play a few snaps and then re-aggravate the injury. I’d get ready to see another healthy dose of Jeremy Hills on Saturday.
Austin Laymance (Daily Texan):
As for Keenan, I don’t see how a thumb injury will keep him off the field on senior night.
Christian Corona (Daily Texan):
As for Keenan Robinson, Emmanuel Acho said the “warrior” will be good to go this weekend.
Austin Laymance (Daily Texan):
Remember, Texas has a short week after K-State. So will [head coach] Mack [Brown] rest Malcolm for A&M? We’re about to find out.
Another: http://www.statesman.com/sports/longhorns/brown-on-horns-injuries-weve-got-us-a-1968938.html
"We can't plan on Joe and Malcolm being ready on Saturday," the coach said, "and we can't plan on them playing the whole game if they are ready."
It certainly doesn't look like these guys will be close to 100%. Makes the line even more strange.

I have a feeling our secondary is gonna have like 5 picks with Malone getting 3 of them :ksu:
Thoughts on our DB's having a field day _fan?

If UT throws, yes. But even with injuries, I think they take the air out the ball and rely on their offensive line, running game, and defense. These are also the best two teams in TOP in the league with us at 35 and UT at 34. So I see them hoping this becomes a 3-5 play drive and punt game for both teams and then hope we make a mistake. I picked a 27-24 score, but it could be even lower if neither team makes a ton of mistakes. That said, UT would seem to be the team more prone to make mistakes and if we can get a couple early we will be in great shape. If we can manage a 10-0 or 14-0 lead early I don't think there is any way they can come back. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Snyder throw out something pretty crazy early to try to get a lead.

:confidence rising:

Damn, I forgot this was senior day, for a group of seniors who are really pissed about losing to K-State. :ohno:
Stupid question, but does the Big 12 schedule so that everybody always has to play an away game on the host's senior day, every year? Doesn't seem like this would always be the case, but it's been true for K-State since 2002 (as far back as I cared to go). And we lost 7 out of 10 of those games (2002 @ MU, 2003 @ NU, and 2010 @ North Texas being the exceptions).

great barking carnival preview, may have been posted somewhere else:

They are not adept pass blockers, but they certainly benefit from a Thousand One, Thousand Two hesitation from the defensive ends who are generally mind-mumped by the KSU option game by the mid-2nd quarter.
-
Thought they nailed their evaluation of Hubs too
John Hubert is a mid tier FBS runner. Little guy. He has 748 yards at 5.1 ypc and only 2 TDs. Which reminds you what his red zone role is. If you overcompensate for Klein, he can certainly run through empty space, forward-like, at a goodly pace. Very shifty and Hodges Mitchell-ish.
-
That was very good.
-
And I wouldn't be surprised to see Snyder throw out something pretty crazy early to try to get a lead.
Really? I would be shocked. I have seen nothing this season that would indicate that Snyder would try anything early that carries any substantial risk. And I don't view Texas as a team that Snyder would think would require anything other than the conservative approach. :dunno:
I do agree we'll see some new wrinkles throughout the rest of the game, though...unless somehow we're able to just run over them (which I don't anticipate).

Toss pass early 2nd quarter vs aTm? Double reverse in first half vs OSU?
-
We're overdue for a fake fieldgoal option. Might save this one for Iowa State.
-
IDEA: Let's not spot the other team a couple touchdowns to open play the game

This _fan guy really knows how to make a prediction. *cough* chiRP *cough*

Tx new dc will blitz the crap out of us.

"If there was a team we really needed to leave the conference, it was K. State — not Nebraska, Mizzouri, Colorado, or A&M — not that we’ll miss the Aggies."

Oh, okay. 2nd quarter maybe. I thought we were talking "first 2 series" early.

Probably... would like to see Collin try a screen pass or three. We're really gonna struggle to move the ball. Basically Texas needs to turn it over 3 times to give us a chance. :ohno:
Peggy Po says: Unless Mack Brown gets a brain transplant overnight the Cats look to win Number 6 over Macky. :ksu:

Maybe, but blitzing doesn't always work well against the run. If anything aTm's scheme of loading the line of scrimmage and trying to keep our offense inside the tackles seems to be the best plan.
