I don't think Keitzman understands that Snyder is only the 2nd year of a 5 year contract extension, and NO, he does not need an extension at this time.

BITB clearly said Snyder is in the 3rd year of his 5 year contract with 2 years remaining.  So, if you are correct about the contract, you are correct about his understanding.

Seems like Bill has done very well when he had quality assistants and was able to recruit well.  I would assume those things would be true at an OSU or UF.  Give the dude 20 yrs at OSU, he could win 2 NCs.  Lots of lessor coaches have won NCs.

If we had lost to Miami, I don't think people would be this excited. It's the back to back fantastic wins that feel so special. If we beat Mizzou, I'm not sure I will be able to contain myself.

I'm not saying that LHCBS is LMJC (Legendary Messiah Jesus Christ), but if he can get us to 7-0 and get gameday back in Manhattan (which is a huge if), the guy is basically the Bill Brasky of college football coaches.

What the hell does he need with money anyway? He literally does nothing but work and he's gonna be dead before he retires again. I think if we were to offer him a fund to pay for christmas presents for his grandkids, he'd sign for life.

I really don't understand the point of an extension/raise.  Is he going anywhere?

No, he isn't going anywhere, but there are tangible reasons.

1) Recruiting.

2) Attractiveness of the job for the next coach.
Title: Re: BITB gets it started...
Post by: jtksu on October 03, 2011, 07:22:26 PM
If an extension/raise will do those things, give it to him.  It's not like the job isn't his until he retires anyway.  If we can get back to a perenial top-25 type team, we may be able to land a quality coach next time.  It's not like Snyder is bad for business, quite the contrary.

Wouldn't the attractiveness of the job depend more on what we would offer the next coach and not so much what we paid the old coach?

Lol what is bill going to do recruit less if we don't pay him?
Title: Re: BITB gets it started...
Post by: jtksu on October 03, 2011, 07:52:08 PM
No, the thought is that players will be more comfortable signing with Bill if they believe he will be their coach for the full 4/5 yrs.  Obviously, an extension doesn't actually matter because Bill will be here as long as he chooses regardless, but it's supposed to look better to the outside.
Title: Re: BITB gets it started...
Post by: jtksu on October 03, 2011, 07:54:22 PM
Seems like Bill's situation could be used in a negative sense by other coaches.  "Don't sign with him, he won't be there much longer."  At least an extension could be used by our staff as proof that Snyds will be around awhile.  That's the thought process, anyway.

Isn't Bill at about 2 mil/yr now?  Coaches get paid stupid money these days, adding a bit to his wouldn't be a bad thing.  We want potential replacements to think fondly of our program/AD.

About $1.9 million this year.

Title: Re: BITB gets it started...
Post by: jtksu on October 03, 2011, 08:04:32 PM
$1.9 is pretty damn low.  If coaches think that's all we pay our GOAT, it will surely shrink the pool from which we have to choose from.

He is definitely in year 3 of five.  Currie extended Snyder, Patterson, and Hill his first summer here.  This was a strong talking point of the Pay Frank campaign.

You act like only winning 1/4 against ranked teams is a sign of poor production.  I would be very happy with 2 wins in the stretch.  Super boner time with 3 wins.  Thats four week stretch is as tough as any team in the country will face.

We will pay when the time comes.  Coaches will know this.  Snyder could get more now if he wants it.  But he's 72 years old and, by and large, he seems to be totally focused on the youngsters at this point in time.

Wasn't very long ago that a million bucks a year was a big-time salary.  And it wasn't very long ago that Stoops was the highest paid coach in the Big 12 at two million per year.  Not that I don't think we will be able to afford a good coach in the future since we are rich and all, but just reflecting on how fast things have changed in college football.  Same thing with how quickly our press box has become outdated.
