Few thoughts after looking at kenpom...
Tech is a bad rebounding team. They allow offensive rebounds at a high rate and don't get many themselves. Very small line-up that we should be able to exploit. Texas outrebounded them 44-30 and 18-7 on the offensive glass Saturday.
Despite shooting very well on 3PT shots and poorly on 2PT shots, they do not rely on the 3 as much as they should. They have 4 solid shooters and IMO one of the main factors for them to upset us will be shooting lots of 3s and making 40% or better.
Though not at nearly as high a rate, Tech gets fouled and fouls a lot. Will be interesting to see how that works out in this game as we do the same, though a high foul rate game in general should benefit us b/c we are much deeper, especially in the frontcourt.
Tech likes a high pace, playing at nearly the same pace we do, which should help us as well.
A wildcard will be Roberson, who was limited in Saturday's game by the bruised ribs he suffered in Waco. He should be better, but that usually isn't a quick healing injury.
I anticipate we will pressure the perimeter a ton to try to take away Tech's 3PT shooting while relying on our bigs to change shots in the paint. Expect to see some backdoor cuts/lay-ups, but I imagine we'll give those up some to not allow open 3PT attempts. If we come to play at all, we should beat them badly on the boards. Biggest worries are cold shooting/silly TOs by the Cats and Tech going nuts from outside.

mods, please rename to 'A Look at Texas Tech'

Different take than "A look at...". JMHO. But you can call it what you like.

just messin', _fan.
ETP's nervousness level: 3/5.

Nervous: 2/5. Reasons to be nervous, but Cats should win.

I like when _FAN does these :nerd:

I love playing bad rebounding teams.
-
Singletary has been off his last few games. If he can put a few down and amp up his team and the crowd, this may be an uphill climb. I gotta like our chances tonight after watching us put on a 2nd half show against Oklahoma. You gotta think Tech is gonna hang around better than OU...
-
it should be a fantastic game. tech plays such a fun to watch style. that plus lubbock magic.
-

this. a 10 pt lead with 5 seconds to go still is not safe.
-
Fortunately we've got a little experience with team's going nuts down the stretch. I was happy to see us limit OU's ridiculousness to 2 makes in a row, not 6.
-
We'll get their best shot in the first half but wear them down and pull away in the second. Cats by 15+.
-
if Tech rebounds the ball better than they usually do and/OR take more 3s than they usually do. :runaway:
-
(kenpom ranking), (team), (score)
tech @ home has beaten (81) haverhills (78-71), (93) ou (75-65), (47) ok state (81-74)
tech @ home has lost to (34) a&m (67-65), (13) mu (94-89), (9) ut (71-67)
the highest ranked kenpom team they've beaten was UTEP @ 32
tonight will be a good game. a for sure nail biter for the Cardiac Cats.

Should be a high scoring game.
I think we will wear them down by second half, and hopefully get them into some foul troubles. I like our chances on the boards too.

More looking on FTAs.
Tech has shot 30 or more FTs in 9 of their home games.
They have shot 39 or more FTs in 5 home games.
Best home wins all had very high FTA #s; Washington (39), UTEP (46), and OSU (46).
Only lost to MU and aTm in 30+ FTA games.

it's coming, and there's just nothing anyone can do about it...we're going to get Lubbock'd.

Some SLTH gold here:
Reserves spark Texas Tech's decisive runs
Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight questioned one of his players during the first half against Kansas State on Sunday in Lubbock, Texas. Texas Tech beat Kansas State, 74-49. Knight made a quiet debut in Big 12 Conference play as his squad improved to 12-1 on the season.
Point guard Larry Reid has a sore right leg that kept him out of Sunday's game, and Reid's absence created a pain for K-State
By Kevin Haskin
The Capital-Journal
LUBBOCK, Texas --- Another new chapter to the Bob Knight coaching saga was started on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to fill much space.
The first Big 12 game for the Texas Tech coach was uneventful.
No chairs bounced across the floor at United Spirit Arena, no tables slammed at midcourt, no technicals were assessed.
There was no need. Knight and his Red Raiders handed Kansas State a mild-mannered, yet lopsided, 74-49 defeat and rolled to their ninth straight victory.
K-State, which fell to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12, bettered Texas Tech (12-1, 1-0) in many categories, holding an edge in field goal percentage and rebounds. But one key came from beyond a line Knight would just as soon see erased.
"I'd like to win with no 3-point shots. I'd like to send it to heaven where Fred Taylor is today," Knight said of his Ohio State coach, who died on Sunday.
This one time, though, the 3-point shot was the Raiders' salvation as they went 7 of 27. Not great, but K-State could only counter with a 1-for-7 clip from bonus range as it played without point guard Larry Reid, who sat out with a strained quadriceps.
Although Tech missed all but two of its first 15 attempts from 3- point range over the Wildcats' scrappy 2-3 zone, little-used sophomore Marcus Shropshire finally connected.
The 6-foot sophomore came in averaging 1 point per game and had made just 10 points in 50 minutes on the season, yet he netted three treys in the final 2:30 of the first half to give Tech a 33-26 edge at the break.
Shropshire's bombs, along with a dunk by 6-11 senior center Andy Ellis, were part of a 12-2 run the Raiders enjoyed to end the half. It was the first time Tech showed any superiority after the lead had been swapped eight times in the first 16 minutes.
"It was a key time in the game," said K-State coach Jim Wooldridge, "but at the same time I can't say I was really disappointed in the first half. It was how we wanted, and needed, to play that first half.
"But they made some key plays and that gave them some energy and confidence going into the second half, so that was an important stretch."
K-State was still within six, 44-38, after a dunk by 6-9 junior center Pervis Pasco with 13:45 remaining, but then went scoreless during the next five minutes. Tech capitalized on the drought with 11 unanswered points as backups Nick Valdez and Nathan Doudney scored 14 and 10, respectively, to go with the 9 points Shropshire scored during the first-half sizz.
"They had guys come in and respond to the minutes they got," Wooldridge said. "They've got a good team, a lot of weapons."
Especially when three starters who were averaging 38 points collectively were held to just four. Forward Pawel Storozynski posted those, while Kasib Powell and Will Chavis each were blanked.
"Somebody had to take up the slack, and those three (reserves) did a good job," Knight said. "They put us in position where we didn't have to come from behind."
Sophomore guard Andre Emmett led the Raiders with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
Senior Phineas Atchison led K-State with 12 points after he was inserted into the starting lineup at off guard. Freshman Nick Williams shifted to the point and had 9 points and 4 assists. Pasco added 10 points and led the Cats with 8 rebounds.

Knight also did a good job labeling Wools as a SLTH.
"I felt badly for Kansas State that Reid wasn't able to play," Tech coach Bob Knight said while praising the intensity of the zone defense the Cats used to limit the Raiders to 38.2 percent shooting.
"They're a well-coached team and they play hard," Knight added, "but they play hard and now the kid who handles the ball most for 'em can't play. That has to affect them tremendously."

I like being on the other side of the SLTH pats on the head:
"It's a typical Doc Sadler-coached team, a team that's going to fight you for 40 minutes," Martin said. "They play offense at a high pace, at an unbelievably efficient rate. Defensively, they give you nothing easy."
"I'm not a prophet, but I'm pretty intelligent and I know my business," Martin said. "I told you their teams ain't going to lay down. Doc Sadler hasn't won as many games and as many championships in his career because his teams lay down."
