]Great Q. Combo of bad luck and (cont) RT @AndrewPuett Why has Self struggled with early signees, recently, and excelled with late ones?
(cont) the fact that Self is going after guys who are choosing to wait until the late period. He's missing early and having to scramble.
(cont) Bottom line is it's harder to recruit to KU than KY, OSU, Texas, UNC, Duke. Have to get the kids on campus (Unless you're J Wright).

That last one will likely get him killed.
Hell hath no fury like a Bandwagonville Fan hearing Lawrence is hard to recruit to.

I am not sure the towns are all that much better, except Austin. The programs are.

ok fine
1.) Austin City Limits & SXSW (music scene)
2.) University of Texas
3.) Girls
4.) state capital
but it doesn't defeat the statement "college towns in general suck compared to Austin"
-
college towns suck in general compared to Austin
Austin isn't a college town.

Thank you capt' obvious

Still doesnqit change the fact that everyone outside of Larrytown views Larrytown as a crap hole.
-

Austin isn't a college town.
Right. Just a way better place to go to college than Lawrence. I think we're all in agreement here.
-

So true. When all my friends from Lawrence come to visit Manhattan you can see the extreme jealousy all over their face. Of course, they'd never admit it. Sad, really.

They see how healthy and impossibly rich we are.
-
Let's be honest fellas, it's pretty much impossible to not be super awed and jealous of MHK. We're Natalie Portman making out with Mila Kunis. Lawrence is Lindsay Lohen making out with that Sam guy.
-
Austin isn't a college town, thus is apples to oranges in comparing the two.

Neither is Columbus or Raleigh/Durham for that matter

Completely disagree, but hey, you're a K-State fan.

Austin produces elite people at an alarming rate

The music scene in Austin is what the music scene in Lawrence aspires to be. It really isn't even close.
-
Ben's never been to Austin! Lol
-
Love these kinds of discussions with anyone from Tardville.
-
Dood. Ben has totally been to Austin like 50 times. Hell, he has a loft down there. And he totally macks on hot bitches down there, all the time.
-
Ben's never been to Austin! Lol
this is all i've got, jfc Ben
-
The music scene in Austin is what the music scene in Lawrence's wet dream is like. It really isn't even close will never happen.
thought this worked better
-
That being said, Manhattan's music scene is a rough ridin' travesty
-
That being said, Manhattan's music scene is a rough ridin' travesty
Yeah...it's really, really awful.
-
That being said, Manhattan's music scene is a effing travesty
Yeah...it's really, really awful.
Live music doesn't go well with really good health.
-

Yeah...it's really, really awful.
-
You know who else has a lackluster live music scene? Beverly Hills. Just sayin'.
-
Been to lots of places with "great live music scenes" and realized that it was mostly a lot of very mediocre bands playing to really drunk people who thought it was great.
-
Fuckin' Dax is really impressing me lately. Great post.
-

omaha supposedly has an elite music scene but it's just because of conor oberst. the guy single handidly created and has sustained the "scene".
-
Not saying Lawrence is a rough ridin' Mecca or anything
-
Topeka has a very good music scene.
-
Live music is horrible.

Topeka has a very good music scene.
Is this in reference to the Booby Trap?
-
Live music is horrible.
:dubious:

Can we get some more details on this Booby Trap place?

Dax nailed it. If a band is worth a damn:
A) you've probably heard them on the radio
B) they are not playing at a college bar
Austin is alright, (not a college town, IMO) traffic sux...lots of hype. I lived in Dallas liked it waaay better than Austin. Just my opinion. :)

Ummm... what? I have family in Austin. Heading down there June 11th for my cousin's wedding, actually.

You couldn't be more wrong, honestly. First of all, every band has to start somewhere. Do you think the Rolling Stones started out playing in packed 30,000 seat concert halls? Second, most of the music on mainstream radio is total garbage.
-
Um...wut? I don't have to prove to you that I've been tto Austin!
-

 It's 2011 Ben. Internet, MP3's, IPOD's, home studios, CD Burners, Mobile Media, YouTube, Facebook etc. etc.
1965 . . . a record label found you, a label will even listen to your demo, you could find enough money to get some studio time and enough money to have them even press your record, you could find a DJamer who wasn't a complete bad person who would play your record on the air . . .
Really . . . Really?
-
Live music is horrible.
_33 its like your in my brain sometimes.
-
"Mainstream radio" yeah really awesome to pay the man to get satellite radio so I don't have to listen "mainstream radio". I could give a eff less if I heard a band before they make it big.

Wow... great post. All you did was show how much more competitive the music industry is today than it was in 1965, and yes, bands still have to start somewhere.

Okay . . . so, how many payola schemes do bands have to engage in today just to get on air?? Oh wait, they don't need the "air" anymore do they.
-
Did you play AAU ball in Austin also?
-

Hmmmm. You must have been recruited by some good schools. How exciting.

Sad . . .

Grumblins that Ben will replace both Syracuse and Nebraska in the AAU.

He's just going to hoop with his AAU team. I'm sure you guys have all heard of the Topeka AAU team he played on.

I think you're confusing regional AAU tournaments with national AAU tournaments, or something. It really doesn't take a whole lot to be an AAU team.
:dunno:

Well in the discussions about big time AAU ball and recruiting, you assured us you knew all about it because you played AAU ball.
Either you played in like 6th grade, or you are full of crap.
-
To be fair, Ben did just insinuate that he was an entire team. Not sure if that matters or not.
-
Love these.
-
Love these.
I wish I didn't have to do them but sometimes you gotta keep a guy honest.

Not sure why it's so hard for you to believe that I played AAU basketball. You've got some big-time issues, dude.
-
I guess it's just hard to believe that an unathletic looking chubby chaser could compete at that level. :ck:
-
I for one believe that Ben did play some Adipose Aryan Union basketball in his day
-
I guess it's just hard to believe that an unathletic looking chubby chaser could compete at that level. :ck:
You've never even met me before, or played sports with me... how would you know whether or not I'm athletic? I have no idea where the "chubby chaser" myth comes from, but I can assure you that I get my fair share of non-chubby pussy.
-
Seen a picture of you with a little piggy. And it isn't difficult to tell an athlete from a non-athlete. Plus, you lie about everything else...

I don't know, man. Honestly, I think you're just jealous. Let me guess... you're single, mid 30's, mid-level management, and living in Wichita, KS.
:flush:
-
Lemme guess: you're a super model-banging, 6 figga making, austin family having, b-ball playing, world traveling, multi-millionaire?

I don't have an epaw in this race, but you might want to check your jtksu post from like five posts ago where you guessed that he was single, in his mid thirties and lived in wichita working mid level management. Dunno. :dunno:

Didn't stalk. Just know you are full of crap. You are about everything. Now you have confirmed you were full of crap about this too.
LOL about you telling us how AAU basketball worked and that you knew because you played when you played for the Topeka mites when you were 9. Poser.

yeah whoever made that dumbass coment about live music obviously has never been to Red Rocks to see a show.
-
Live music doesn't suck. Local live music generally does though.
-
This. Live music is great, as long as the act playing is actually talented.
-
Personally think live music in big places generally sucks. Big places being more than a thousand people or so.
-
live music is always better than recorded music unless you have an incredibly expensive audio system and incredibly expensive recording
