My other fearless prediction is: Within the next few years there will be significant Congressional/State Legislative/DOJ/State AG (take your pick) investigation(s) into the non profit status of the NCAA and BCS level athletic programs.

My fearless prediction is that the temperature this summer will rise above 90 degrees.!!!
Way to go out on a limb there swami.

Not the word I would choose, more like "Awed by your obtuseness".

we would have at least 4 NCs if it wasn't for the BCS. good riddance imo.

Agreed. I read some series a few years ago on some other website where some smart-thinking guy wrote a piece about college football playoffs during K-State's glory days, and it came out pretty favorable for the Cats. :woot:

Good for Utah. eff the BCS.
Utah is where they are because of the bcs, not in spite of it. The bcs goes away = Utah falls deeper into obscurity.

BYU won a national championship before the bcs, so I don't buy that at all.

nearly 30 years ago. :dubious:
BYU will fail miserably as an independent, and U of Utah is only in the Pac10 because of the BCS.

U of Utah is only in the Pac 10 because UT punked the Pac 10. U of Utah would be better off with the BCS now that they are in the Pac 10. Good for Utah to go ahead with this lawsuit, anyway.

the bcs is good for ksu.
cheering for the end of the bcs is kind of like shooting yourself in the foot, wild wild cat fans

I like to think of it as planning for the future when KU drags us into Conference USA.

I hope so, but am not as optimistic.

If the Big XII gets an extra team into the BCS they will make around 1/6 of the amount of money that we just sold our secondary rights for football games to Fox.
The BCS is irrelevant.
Let's say that in 4 years from now, if Boise State decides to go independent, they might win all their games and go to a BCS bowl. They would make $18 million dollars to keep all to themselves (This is fantasyland. They need a conference.) In the same year, Kansas State might go 0-9 in the Big XII but will still make $10 million more than Boise just from the Big XII television revenue (This is not fantasyland. This is going to happen.)
The BCS is irrelevant.

The tipping point depends on the number of dollars. Same as with online poker.
A billion or two? No big deal. Not worth the political cost.
$10-20+ billion? Suddenly collegiate athletics will have non-profit and slavery issues to deal with.
-
I love the BCS. They have the best bowl games.

i actually will be taking a class next semester that will concentrate on anti-trust with one of the professors that is behind this. I'll be sure to give some insidery info if I come across it. Heres a little info we got in an email the other day.
Twenty-one law and economic professors and antitrust experts, including The University of [REDACTED] of Law Professor [REDACTED], sent a letter this week to the United States Department of Justice requesting the DOJ launch an investigation of college football’s Bowl Championship Series (BCS). The signatories to the letter allege that the BCS violates the Sherman Antitrust Act.
The letter, which calls the BCS "a cartel that controls distribution of competitive opportunities and benefits associated with major college football’s post-season," was directed to Assistant Attorney General Christine Varney of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division.
The letter explains how the BCS harms competition by restraining output, fixing prices, reducing quality, and cartelizing previously independent bowl games as a means of blocking the emergence of rival post-season systems, such as a playoff. As a result of these anti-competitive aspects of the BCS, consumers receive a lower quality, more expensive college football post-season.
[REDACTED] teaches Sports Law at the [REDACTED] College of Law, is the co-author of the book, Sports Law: Cases and Materials, and is working on a book about international sports law. He has served as plaintiff’s counsel in more than 70 Title IX (gender equality) sports cases, and he has also represented numerous athletes in eligibility disputes.
"Over 25 years ago, the University of Oklahoma brought an antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA which challenged the legality of limiting the number of college football games which could be televised," [REDACTED] said. "Their ultimate success in that lawsuit, which made its way to the Supreme Court of the United States, has proven to be beneficial to 'consumers' ( antitrust parlance for 'fans'), who now enjoy access to lots of televised college football. We feel that the prevailing BCS arrangements illegally deprive non-BCS schools of revenue that would be derived from a merit-based championship event. We also contend that the BCS COLUSION deprives consumers of something that a free market would ensure – a legitimate championship event in intercollegiate football."
Names redacted because you people are creepy.

They should use the BCS rankings to field the 8 team playoff. No auto bids. Also, I trust computers over east coast/Notre Dame bias.
-
"Goodness gracious, with all that's going on in the world right now and with national and state budgets being what they are, it seems like a waste of taxpayers' money to have the government looking into how college football games are played," .
He laughs at all the silliness thought up by the haters

Mark Emmert and Bill Hancock are rough ridin' with the dude who killed Osama bin Laden.
Before he was sworn in as president, Barack Obama said in 2008 that he was going to "to throw my weight around a little bit" to nudge college football toward a playoff system.
Hey BCS, say "Hi" to Osama for me when you get to hell.
