So if this happens, and with the current ABC/ESPN contract, the TV payout per school will be about $15 million. Then you toss in Bowl game and NCAA revenue on top of that, it starts pushing $20 million per school.

5. Big 12 TV contract
Lips are sealed at the Big 12 office, but word leaked from industry analysts has Fox paying $90 million annually for 13 years. If that’s in the ballpark for the conference’s second-tier rights, the deal is enormous and would work as an adhesive for keeping the Big 12 together.
No more talk about making Texas A&M whole with its $20 million guarantee, even if that meant giving a lower percentage of income to the smaller-budget programs.
With this deal, media-rights money would equal or surpass the income of Big Ten and Southeastern Conference schools because it would be added to the $60 million annually the Big 12 receives from ABC and ESPN for first-tier games.
The Big 12 would prefer to have its contracts for first- and second-tier games aligned, but that’s not the case. The ABC/ESPN deal expires in 2015-16.
The media-rights income doesn’t include revenue from bowl games and the NCAA Tournament. Add it up, and the Big 12 becomes as financially healthy as any conference.
Also in the works: The schools other than Texas and Oklahoma forming a network for mostly nonrevenue sports. Exposure, not revenue, will be the key here.

good, really wasn't looking forward to giving aTm any of our money :dubious:
-
Mixed feelings...this is the first time I have had to think of nu since Feb., which is nice. However, because none of the radio stations or print outlets in KC even speak of nu, I wont get to hear them express their remorse and fear. Ying and yanging karma stuff, ya know?
-
aTm is the least noble of our conference sistern.

Agreed, and with our low current debt level, and with an increase in revenue of about $10 million a year, they'll be absolutely no problem paying for the West Stadium project. If this deal does happen, I'd say that project is as good as done . . . IMO. The only thing that might throw a wrench into is the economy, and trying to sell a whole bunch more bigger and more expensive suites in a tough economic climate.
Pete . . . true.

Seems to me that with Fox sports net throwing out this kind of money on Tier 2 rights that Fox Network may being positioning themselves to try to take the tier 1 rights as well. If they get into a bidding war with ABC/ESPN then we might be in fantastic position.

This is going to push Conference Armageddon Doomsday Clock (CADC) back to about 9 pm imo.

The average fan might wonder where the money is coming from. Ultimately, it will come from them in their cable bill. Sports is seen as the ultimate reality show. Because results are immediately available, sports is likely to be DVRed which is attractive to advertisers.
Someone explain this to me. If you DVR something, aren't you more than likely to fast forward through the commercials? Are they taking about sponsors for in-game?

They omitted the word "less". Debunked.

That's true, I suppose, but WGAS about ISU vs. KSU volleyball?
It's a good thing, I guess, but something I'll make sure to never watch.

How does this impact the future of the Conference?
This landmark agreement positions the Conference with the best television arrangement in collegiate sports, taking into account revenue, exposure and preservation of institutional rights. It achieves these benchmarks while solidifying the long-term commitment of the member institutions to one another. Add to this that we will be back in the marketplace in four years with our Tier I football and men’s basketball rights, and you can see why we believe that the best days of the Big 12 Conference are yet to come.
There are naysayers who think the Conference is not going to survive long-term?
The presidents and chancellors of the 10 member institutions last summer made public statements that committed their institutions unequivocally and unconditionally long-term to the Conference. Their unanimous vote to approve this binding long-term contract is an explicit demonstration of that commitment. This Conference has never been stronger and the dedication of the member institutions to one another never deeper. The Big 12 is a vibrant conference with a tremendously bright future.

I know it's just speculation at this point, but how much will KSU make per year, and how does that compare to other conferences?
-
So, basically, Fox just agreed to pay $2 million per football game. For the 40 shittiest games. ESPN still gets to pick the 18 best games.
:horrorsurprise:
Tell me again why we have bowls?

The total payout to all schools that played in the five BCS bowls this year was $180 million.
The Big XII just sold their worst 40 games for $90 million. 20 of those 40 games weren't even considered worth the trouble to televise in the previous contract. Think about that for a while.
For 2012-2013:
18 best football games + essentially all basketball = $60 million <-- will stay the same through 2015-2016
40 football games after the best 18 are cherry picked = $90 million
In 2016-2017 it is conceivable that the Big XII could be bringing in $500+ mill per year.
Thank you Texas.

Big day for the Big 12. Congrats to the league. Bottom line for fans: You get to watch your teams on the tube.

This will destroy any parity in college athletics. The BCS is suddenly completely irrelevant. We're going to see coaches making $10+ million per year and assistants in the $1-$2 million range at many schools.
Insane.
-
Is this the "total" B12 revenue deal, or is this just part of it? If it is I understand that this is a substantial increase, but seems small in comparo to the SEC and B10 deals. Just trying to clarify here.

This is the secondary package. The football games that aren't on the 2:30 ABC spot or ESPN primetime or any of the basketball games that are on ESPN/ABC.
The Big XII was making $20 mill per year on the secondary stuff and $60 mill per year for the "Tier 1" games. Will now make $90 mill per year on the secondary games but still $60 mill on the Tier 1. The Tier 1 contract expires after 2015-2016 and will obviously go for a lot more than either $60 or $90 million when it is redone. Around $300 million seems reasonable for the next Tier 1 contract, but maybe more by then.
For comparison, the ACC signed a deal last May for all football and basketball with ESPN for 12 years at $155 million per year. They were giddy because they were at $65 million before that. The Big XII was at $80 million ($20 for secondary+$60 for Tier 1). The SEC has a 15 year deal that started in 2009 for $205 million per year. Both of those conferences split the money between 12 teams.
What today signaled is that the Big XII will make $150 million in 2012-2016 and then possibly somewhere in the $400 million range after that. Certainly way more that $205 million. And that is split between 10 teams.
This is a big deal.

I've been saying this since all the realignment talk (I'm not the only one, I know). Expansion will end up proving a fruitless endeavor UNLESS you can haul in a real cash cow. Otherwise you are just watering down money pot. There are so very few cash cows out there. ND is probably the only realistic one available and they won't go anywhere unless something changes that forces them to (ie - playoff in football where only conference champions are included).
-
i could see expansion after this deal runs out.

was told that A&M thought they were being treated unfairly and were still shopping around....and that they set their own deadline of the end of May. Had that happened, the other south teams were ready to jump ship to various places...but since that didn't happen, everybody is staying put.

Fox just picked up Tim Brando. Sounds like he might be calling games. Good pickup for potential Cats games.

I'm not a fan of Brando, but that means they're investing for sure.
I assume he's moving his radio show there, too?

I think part of what made the '12 season so magical was having Gus call some of the games. I hope we get him for at least one this season.

I don't mind Klatt. Charlie was really good, though.
