Title: It's such a huge rivalry . . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on March 06, 2011, 12:06:03 PM
the TV station carrying the game in said "Huge Rivalry"'s biggest market cuts away from the game before it's even over??

If I was that TV station, I'd have moved heaven and earth to prevent that cutaway.  The ku and MU fanbases are huge in KC, plus, in dealing with ku fans, the whiniest pu$$ies in collegiate sports.  As a 'Cat fan, it was hilarious.

Lot of reassessing, validation and explaining going on in Tardville over this issue.

Gotta be a real KITN to realize that CBS values Michigan vs Michigan State over ku vs mu, even in Kansas City.

Funny, didn't see CBS cutting away early during that Duke vs UNC game.

I wish you could have heard the crying on 610 after the game.  They were just a step away from organizing a riot gang to take down channel 5.

One ku fan called in and said they should replay the last 5 minutes of the game DURING PRIME TIME so that EVERYONE could watch it.

What planet are these people from???

hell, some on KUSports wanted the game replayed in it's entirety.

They are still complaining about it today.

Post by: sonofdaxjones on March 07, 2011, 11:00:08 AM
Social Media absolutely blew  up.

Why would they complain, they all had the sound down anyway listening to Bob Davis whine and bitch about how the refs were screwing ku.   They could have listened to him in the last 3 minutes describing how ku prevailed despite it being 8 vs 5.

Amazed at how many people are still pissed about this.  Best part is, KU fans at my office no stop bitching about it and coming up with crazy ass conspiracy theories and MU fans are like  :dunno: .  MU fans were pissed, but understand that time machines aren't invented yet and you can't go back and fix it like KU fans want to happen.

I went over to Phog just to look at the ridiculous thread titles....it was hilarious.  They were having trouble deciding on whether to boycott just KCTV-5 or to go ahead and boycott CBS national.  The boycott included not just the channels but every company who advertises on them.

Guys, remember that time that the broadcast guys could even be bothered to actually get a truck to Manhattan for one of our games last year?

Oh and remember they were going to boycott Keitzman right off the air a few years ago.

I'm sorry if this was discussed before.   I'm starting to question the value of playing on CBS.  i get they own the tournament rights and have access to more tv's than ESPN.   However, I don't think they truly value our brand.  We all know they wouldn't have switched a UNC vs. Duke or Kentucky vs. top name game.

Haha, she is so sweet she didn't know what to do.  She couldn't believe people could be so low, especially people she had been close to all her life.  Eventually her friend's brother made it right but it took two weeks.  I'll have my wife put your wife's number on speed dial if she ever needs to contract out some viscous.

EDIT:  Oh, part of the point of the story is that these bars are going to charge somebody, anybody, to get that money.

CBS kept cutting to this little kid crying.  That and the scrubs crying, priceless.  Even if it were my team I would have had to laugh.

I couldn't get enough of Mario Little at that time.  Really hope to see this again.  If it does happen again, Ted Turner better be ready and have a locker room cam and a fifth channel ready to go so that we can get uninterrupted coverage.

I think Mario Little would still be on that gym floor crying if somebody didn't pull him off the court.

The most beautiful part about it was the fact that he never even played a single minute of that season.

Great moment.  When the foreigner hit that shot it felt like we had won the National Championship.

Ben, why are you always having to justify the "rivalry" between ku and mu.   The numbers simply don't lie.   In football, the game rarely sold out, so it was moved to Arrowhead, this year Arrowhead was graced with 10's of thousands of empty seats, in fact it's only been a true sell out at Arrowhead once.    Meanwhile K-State dominates the top 25 record crowds at ku charts and is in the Top 10 at Missouri twice, ku is not.

In basketball, the local KC TV station thought so little of it, they couldn't even manage the uplinks properly.

Why are you so butt hurt over the fact that KU and Mizzou are bigger rivals than KU and K-State, 'Pad?  You guys have to win more than 3 out of 45 games if you want a real rivalry.
I am curious, though...what is the record with ku - Mizzou record for the last 45 games?

Whatever it is, it cannot alter the hilarity of the cutaway from the ku-Mizzou game to a Big 10 game.

Why does it bother you so much that K-State plays second fiddle as far as rivalries go for KU?

Why do the cold hard realities of the lamest "big time rivalry" in the country bother you so much.   The football game is rarely sold out and relegated to regional TV or FSN more times than not (in the past it wasn't even televised at all some years, and there were 1000's of empty seats), and the basketball game has CBS stations all over the country cutting out early, including the CBS station in Kansas City.     K-State occupies 2 spots on the Top 10 largest crowds for MU football (ku none), K-State occupies 4 of the Top 10 record crowds at ku, including the #1 spot . . . MU, shows up at 23rd.

Clearly no one at KU gives a sh*t about the MU game in football or bball.

Lol.  My God, the dumbassery of these people.  Honestly, everyone should experience Kansas City during this time of year one time in their lives to truly appreciate the irrational idiocy of this collective fan base first hand.

The best time to go shopping is the day after KU loses in the NCAA tournament.

It's like Dawn of the Dead out there.  People just walk around in a zombie haze.

Went to Kansas Sampler the day after they lost to UNI and we won.  Amazing.

The Lawrence Area Catbackers had the bar ALL to ourselves after the end of the KU/UNI game.

Wow... you guys are really big-time.  No doubt that the UNI game was K-State's biggest win of the season last year.

been meaning to ask you, bro. why don't you have a twitter?

 :ck:

i hope you consider getting one

Yea Beems, get a twitter account!!!  :pbj:

“I’ve got people flipping out,” Lewellen said Sunday. “A huge panic.”

People filed out, some without paying their tabs. A few miles south and west, the same kind of bedlam was transpiring at Coach’s Bar & Grill on 148th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

stay classy squawks

That was good, but this was still my favorite quote from the article.

So when the Jayhawks and Tigers went to commercial, most of the nation’s CBS affiliates were supposed to switch to the Michigan State-Michigan game, which had perhaps more nationwide appeal. The problem was that the KU-MU viewing area switched over, as well.
