Title: Salad Days Revisited (green only, no pasta/fruit/other)
Post by: pissclams on February 28, 2011, 10:59:01 AM
What's your favorite kind of green salad?

pasta, potato, fruit don't belong in this thread.

dressing selections?  i know spinach is supposed to be great but i don't do that crap.

i'm 65% of the time a caesar guy with 25% house and 10% wedge mixed in.

I thought it would be a reference to when the best points of our lives were, when we were young and virile.

I'm about on par with you clams. Mostly ceasar. Some house or cobb. a little wedge. TGIFridays has an amazing bleu cheese wedge salad.

For dressings- Nothing, I mean NOTHING beats Litehouse (the jars in the veggie/lettuce area). The caesar and jalapeño ranch are glorious.

wow, just did a little research on the appropriate cobb salad dressing to be used when making cobb salad.  reference gave me a resounding "red-wine vinaigrette" response.  wow.

the wedge salad at capital grill is served with pork belly and i substitute their smoked ranch dressing for the regular blue cheese.  it's pretty much  incredible.

My wife has a great recipe for this. She adds pancetta, and uses cranberries instead of strawberries.

Romaine
Desert Cherub tomatoes
One chopped green onion
Cucumber
Seasoned pepper
sea salt
Jalapeño ranch(very little)

What ever this is called, it is my fav.  Really the only salad I make at home that I like, however I like it better than most other salads.

house salad, the riskiest of all salads.   complete wildcard in terms of lettuce, could be iceberg, mixed greens, romaine, arugula...complete wildcard in terms of everything else in the salad- cheese, tomatoes, onions?

demi-complete wildcard in terms of dressing.
house salad reward is hard to outweigh house salad risk.

I need to know which wine I am drinking
central coast california pinot.

Dear Dumbass -

I won't be eating a 24 oz bone-in ribeye from some shithole. I will trust their judgment on what they put in their house salad.

Love,

Rusty

to the salad newb,
your ideas as to a salad's constitution are elementary
your newbness of salads is amazing.

relying on the smart steakhouse to provide the salad leadership is probably the dumbest thing i've ever heard of someone doing.

you have salad choices and yet don't even inquire as to what's in the house?  complete amateur move.

Went to a place called Chop't for lunch today and got one of these "salads" for a meal.  (First time for everything, I guess.)  Turns out I was hungry again by 3:00.

Salad as a meal?  Thank you, NO!
