Title: Jake's jersey
Post by: Ira Hayes on February 24, 2011, 11:18:02 AM
If we beat Mizzou that thing needs to go ahead and get strung up there in the rafters at the Iowa State game.  This month has proved it.

Didn't we do that for one of our estroballers?

Who is with me?

We have to wait to make sure he doesn't murder somebody while still enrolled.  But right after that, sure.

I wouldn't mind hanging his the same day as beaz, but the most important thing, as you pointed out, is to get that chick baller's jersey down, was it lehning's?

Agree on #30, but he needs to show up for it.  Minnesota is at Washington that night.  Would have been glorious to have him and Bill come back for Senior Night.

I truly thought he was playing his way out of the rafters with the first half of the season.  Apex of that being either the suspension or CU game.  KU game has launched him back into that consideration.  Tourney run will all but solidify it.

Dax has noted that they seem to retire people by era, he has great stats overall but is clearly the leader head and shoulders above anyone for the entire Huggs/Frank era.

I would like to see the 30 up there, but I think to appease the tucks it will go up (if at all) after Jake's number.

an appropriate amount of time has gone by to allow for skipping over 1991-2006 so this should get done soon.

kinda feel like Cartier should get some consideration.  He was the rock of wooly ball and the key transition piece to huggs.

The precedent has been set by Willie Murrell and Mitch Richmond that you don't have to be a four year player.  And Beas undoubtedly had the single greatest season for any KSU player ever.  He needs to go up.

But the precedent has also been set by the estroballer (think it was Lehning) that we can retire jerseys while the player is still active.  Mike Evans, Lon Kruger, Chuckie Willams...there's no way to argue that Jake doesn't belong with that group.

As for Cartier, how could you not also add Askia Jones?  I could probably think of a few others.  Cartier was great, but this is the elite of the elite.

if you are going by era, there is no other choice.  I'm torn about it.  He was clearly the best player then, but weaker when stacked up to the rest.

Going by era doesn't mean that every era gets some of it's players retired.  Our rafters need to respectfully take a pass on the era you are so concerned about.

Jake was 3rd team Sporting News AA last year.

The only AP AAs (1st, 2nd or 3rd team) from KSU are Beasley(1st), Blackman (3rd), Evans (3rd), Boozer (1st&2nd), Knostman (2nd&3rd), and Ernie Barrett (2nd) according to http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/all_america.html

That seals it.  It's time to do this now when his parents will be in town, all his teammates are here and all the people that cheered him on are still in the stands.  There is no doubt.

Either do it now or wait 20 years until he's married and has kids that he wants to share it with.

never understood why we actively worked against honoring our great players till 2005.  No sense to it.  Hopefully the tucks have figured it out and will get Jake's up there with a quickness.

Can someone contact Mommabeaz to see when his is going up?

dude, go study some high school cac.  It was a qualified statement.  eff off.

hey loser. you effed up. walk away in shame. it's the only option you left for yourself.
really, not a lot of people were bitching about the statement and the qualification when it was said.  Wasn't until the doc crew brought another thread down to your high school level.  Speaking of bringing another thread down to your high school level..........

my hopes have been crushed after today of mike and jakes jerseys getting up anytime soon.  I actually paid attention at half today and learned that ernie's didn't go up until something like 36 years after he took them to the final four.  gotta start moving faster than that ksu.

don't worry i did.  Jake is night and rough ridin' day from CU game to the way he is playing now.  If he had played like this all season we would be at least a 3 seed going into the 66 and still ranked.  Keep trying Docs, you look like high schoolers bickering about nothing.  I qualified what I said, when I said it, then I owned it when Jake proved me wrong.  Still waiting for you fools to man up and admit when you are wrong.

Right, and _FAN, nicaname, sys, MIR and others all knew that the CU game was not typical Jake, like you seem to think. Calling someone a pussy is a statement about their overall play, not their play in one game. Choke artist? Even before CU he destroyed Jimmer and had the game of his life against Xavier. He laughed in your face with 38 points against the #1 team.

look dumbcac. jake's jersey deserved to go up for his first three years. this year is just the icing.

and you overreacted over one measly regular season game where he got outplayed by a legit NBA prospect.

in one phrase you devalued his entire career. you can't "own" that and jump back on board when he plays like he did

last year in the tourney. he already played like he is now BEFORE your asinine jake sucks/doesn't deserve to be recognized bullcac.

what happens if he has an off game against ISU  :ohno: will you turn on him again loser :ck:

I'm just going to start making crap up too, go back and re-read what fan said, it is in the middle of our positions and like I give a eff what you and the other Doc SLTH type posters said.

In case you didn't notice, the CU game was the darkest part of wondering through the wilderness of crap play.  Suspensions, poor numbers and that NIT quote (he was pissed and meant it) are not the marks of someone trying to be an AA/POTY.  He proved me wrong and got back to his old form with the KU game.  He has done more the repair his reputation but has once again regained the mantel of team leader.  The CU game wasn't an anomaly in the first half of the season.

in the second half of the season, roughly, his off games will still be 12-17 pts and will still make his team mates better around him.  He won't have another CU game, he wont do crap to get suspended again, he has learned what he needed to do.
