But Shane...
Why does Frank hate Devon Russell?
-
Southwell is awful. Spradling wasn't any better tonight either.
-
There were at least    moments with Shane tonight.
But there were at least that many  with JoCoSpradling as well.
-
Southwell definitely had an off night. He's not terrible though.
-
Guys there is another thread for Spradler, this one is for Shane. Thank you.
-
Southwell just needs to develop a jump shot. If he could shoot he would be pretty lethal offensively. As it is he is a bit of a liability. His defense is generally really good though.

He gave up that wide open 3 in the corner. And his passing, which was supposed to be the best on the team, left me  tonight.
But between him, Sprad, and Irving, all 3 didn't do anything all night. Not sure what Nick and 95 could do worse.

Wes Mantooth, my Ed thread is getting trashed in combo-fanning. Can you go over there and say something nice about it?

I wasn't really talking about tonight's game specifically, just his overall play this season. Meh, one game, small sample size.
-
Frank is probably just trying to lose games this year. No other explaination why 95 doesn't get more PT than those other guys.
-
Defense and passing.

Defense and passing.
Neither were good tonight from Southwell.
-
Also, Wes, I'm not really trying to defend him. He really does need to improve a lot offensively. Frank must just think his D vs. other's O is a better trade-off.
-
Seems like frank is finally trying to let players play through ruff patches. Wish some other guys had recieved a few minutes, but at least southwell and spradling received significant minutes when things were not going well for them. Tourney time this will hopefully help them out, spradling still clutch on his free throws.

as long as he's defending, rebounding and passing he'll keep starting. didn't play well offensively tonight even for his low standards.
thought he defended and rebounded just fine.
-
Defense and passing.
God I hope not, he absolutely graded out with an F in both areas tonight
-
martin just likes the way an offense looks when you have a wing the defense sags off of.

One game. Also, I think the passing/ playmaking suffers pretty bad from his lack of shooting touch. Teams don't guard him.
-
i assume everyone defended well in a team effort giving up .86ppp.

Yeah it's one game, that's what's being discussed hence the title "I thought I'd let it slide because of the win..."
His lack of shooting has crap to do with him throwing the ball to a player who is being denied the ball, he had two turnovers, he did it three times, got lucky as hell once.
-
You remember that game when Russel won us the game and Southwell lost us the game? That was crazy.
-

I like the way the offense looks when that dreamy son of a bitch is on the floor
-
0 assists for Southwell. 4 assists for team. team's fault or Southwell's?
-
Gruds and sprads missed some damn good looks.

This is the only reason the game was close. Those two should've hit 3-4 more of those looks and we are all talking about destroying NU today instead. But I'll take the win.
-
Our younger players suck on the road.

yes and -
NU able to hang with us on the glass creating extra oppy's on offense and limiting ours.
-
Russell > Southwell. Easily. I just don't get it.

Southwell had an off night. I've been generally impressed with him in the other games he's played. He should be an asset for us going down the road.
-
I know it's kind of a :powerespect: talking point, But it really does seem like Frank is much harder on Nick then other's. When he messes up in a game he get's pulled relatively quickly, But he will leave southwell in through a horrible game. One part of me would like to think it's a grooming/pullenesque thing going on. But in reality he probably just hated Nick and want's him to transfer.
-
The Nick love this season is quickly becoming my least favorite thing about KSU fans.
-
i get it (southwell over russell). it's not that difficult. :dunno:

We can't know how many drills Frank has run through with Nick trying to get him to stop doing dumb crap. I mean if I tried like hell to get a player to do one thing, drilled it and drilled it and drilled it some more, and the first thing the kid does on the floor is the exact opposite of what I've taught, then I'm yanking him too.

In jest, but in many ways its true. Southwell had a poor game last night, and his turnovers were pretty bad. But its clear Frank has decided he needs another Sutton type player, someone who will accept a defense/passing/rebounding role first and put offense on the back burner. Southwell will do that, and Russell will not, so its not hard to figure out who plays.

It seems to me that Jamar has been trying to fill the sutton role.

One thing I really hate about some of the goemawtards is that when you mention a player . . . let's take Nick Russell for example, as someone you like to see play more, particularly when a player . . . like Shane Southwell for example . . . has a protracted stretch where he plays like CAC.
The average goemawTARD (so that would mean many on this board) automatically takes it to mean that you (in this case me, a smart person) are saying that Nick Russell should be starting and playing 35 minutes a game. When in reality, based on multiple sequences, could Nick Russell have been any worse than the absolute CAC that Shane Southwell was providing K-State? I doubt it.
I (a smart person) understand that Nick Russell seems to be his own kind of dumbass at times, but there are times he likely could have been better than that offensive and at times defensive abortion that was Shane Southwell last night.
This isn't that effing hard.
-

the love for Russell on this board is beyond Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). the guy makes some of the worst decisions on the floor I've ever seen. I find that every time he's on the floor I desperately want him out of the game because he is so rough ridin' stupid.
for every flash of his ability to score off the bounce there are 3 awful shots and 2 stand and watch moments on defense. eff him

Meanwhile Southwell's guy just buried another 3, Shane just flailed away and tossed the ball to the other team . . . again, and then took a jumpshot that barely drew iron, and is basically no offensive threat.
