Title: laptop cord thing
Post by: steve dave on January 28, 2011, 07:57:20 PM
so, the thing i'm unbelievably envious of macs for is the cord break away thing.  i've broken mine twice now. my laptop now has a toothpick jammed into the cord hole to make it charge because it breaks if someone breaths on the cord wrong.  it's going to cost me $150 to get it fixed (I know because this will be the second time).  it's not the money, it's the pain in the ass of going down to the computer dork store and having them keep my laptop for a couple days to fix it. i know they will look at all my frequent flyer, bank and credit card account numbers and see all the porn my canadian friend and his wife have watched on it when they have visited us and asked to use my laptop in the privacy of their guest bedroom which NOBODY should judge them for as they are good people and patriotic canadians.  :dubious:

Yeah why do PC's have horrible cords?  Their cords all look like they came from radio shack in 1996.  You know what I'm saying?

Saul, next time you're in Wichita you should stop by and make my router/PS3 all elite and oversee my windows 7 upgrade.  I'll have all-you-can-eat nuway waiting.

I just got this option not a month ago.  I was all DESKTOP and they were all, HUH, EVERYONE ELSE GETS A LAPTOP and I was all DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH LUGGING IT AROUND.  We use citrix so I can login to work from home/hotel/wherever if I want and also don't have to worry about my canadian friend.

If you know how to solder, you can fix it. I don't know how to solder, but my IT guy does and he's fixed my wife's laptop about 3 times. Shitty shitty designs. And yes, my wife is clumsy.

Doubt sd knows how to solder.  Sounds like something doom might know how to do.  sd could probably just take his laptop over to doom's log cabin, kick back on the couch with his feet up on the drafting desk, and be all set in 10 minutes.

Soldering lesson:

1. Hold soldering iron on wire for a few seconds.

2. touch wire where you want the connection with soldering wire.

3. don't be a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

Done.

oh yeah, me too.  I've been to napa and toured all the wineries and stuff.  is kind of elite going to napa actually as the first thing the winery people tell you is to tell wine people to STFU because whatever tastes good to you is what you want to drink.  they give you tips about how to drink the wine and what the grapes are and junk but, ultimately, my favorite bottle and what I drink pretty exclusively is a $10 bottle of Mondavi Cab.  the wife likes to stretch her legs a bit on the wine list though and I just let her go.

What does a hard drive have to do with anything?

$150 seems about right. The part isn't much, but taking apart a laptop is a huge PITA and time consuming.

they make really good stuff for the money.  I've had super expensive bottles and I'm not going to say you can't tell the difference because you can.  I mean, you take a drink of an awesome wine and you know it.  but, ultimately, you get a big jump from garbage wines to the base mondavis (not woodbrige by mondavi which even I think taste like balls and ballsacks and taints)

My roommate's Mac cord was very sexy, but too sleek. Cord got bent too many times, and now it doesn't make a good connection all the time. The pulling part was good i guess.

I KNOW YOUR POST IS ABOUT THE HOLE AND NOT THE CORD...

...but I also hate how the cords have a brick in the middle of them and that thing can get unplugged - F! I had a laptop that the brick thing would come unplugged w/ the slightest tug. Pissed me the F off all the time.

Was a victim of this.  iirc its attached to the motherboard.  Depressing to see the battery go down after, since there's nothing you can do about it. :(

the computer guys told me that I'm lucky because mine isn't attached to the motherboard.
