Title: How the 2011 KSU recruiting class stacks up against KU and ISU - BCS Offers
Post by: Pete on January 23, 2011, 07:30:24 PM

As usual, our staff has done a wonderful job of finding the diamonds in the rough...those players that no other BCS schools knew about.  I have compiled the number of BCS offers (I counted both Boise State and TCU as BCS level schools) that each commit from KSU, KU and ISU have this year.  Below are the results.

A few of my observations:
1.  KU has been nearly twice as ineffective at finding hidden gems as Bill.
2.  Bill is not doing nearly as good of a job at finding hidden gems as Iowa State.
2. Kentucky knows how Bill's ass tastes.  Suck it, Kentucky.
3. Devondrkick Nealy, OMG!  :horrorsurprise:

I was rough ridin' pumped that we stole a kicker from Boise State.   Boise took two kickers in this year's class.  Does that mean our guy is better or worse than I thought?  :dunno:

Can I go ahead and blame Meshak's lack of BCS offers on him being wrapped up in the middle of 2009?  Would help my psyche, hope we can agree.

EDIT:  Throw Pease in there too, TIA.

DOES IT MATTER?  STCSS knows special teams, kid's going to destroy the ball with his kicks once STCSS is done w/ him.  NEW STCSS FTW.

Wow...that's rough ridin' depressing.  :goodbyecruelworld:

You can't even bring this up to the 'tards though.  They'll immediately site Bryce and Arthur and place them in this recruiting class.  As if OB's just gonna keep on finding 5 star recruits to transfer in every class.   Then they'll tuck in their shirt and spew some garbage about how Bill always finds the gems that nobody else is in on and this isn't a big deal at all.  Just ask 'em.  Recruiting rankings mean nothing.

Seriously, somebody post this over there and watch what happens.  They're like rough ridin' drones.

I know you like to spew the blah, blah, blah, synder can't recruit, blah, blah, blah, the shirt tucks are such big tards, waa, waa, waa our recruiting rankings suck. But, there are several gems that played for HCBS that are now playing on Sundays and the classes that resulted in 11 win seasons, North titles, bowl games and a Big 12 Championship were very similar to this one.

Well yeah, before Rusty became michigancat, we could've all gone over to his neighbor's and warmed up the delorean (I'll drive, not you) and gone back to 1998 and all our football problems would be solved.  But where are we gonna find a time machine now?

You guys, Tulsa has been in on a huge number of our recruits....this MUST mean that they are also very skilled at finding the gems that no other BCS team sees.   Tulsa will prolly dominate it's conference for the next decade.

Every school has under-recruited gems.

But, this is just the most popular fallacy Snyder apologists like to prop up to support his shitty recruiting time and again.

The popular method of rationalizing the sub-par recruiting is to say Bill always had bottom of the barrell talent that he brought in and coached up.  The reality is, during the DOD, we were also pulling plenty of excellent talent from Florida and Texas and a much higher level of player from the JUCO ranks.

In today's ranking system, guys like Michael Bishop and Quincy Morgan both would have been 5 stars.  Hell, Quincy Morgan committed to Ohio State out of high school and was the second highest rated WR in the country behind David Boston.

I'm not sure why people still fight about these recruiting services. It's a complete crapshoot. If these Rivals guys were excellent at talent evaluation, wouldn't you think a college or the NFL would hire them? For every example that shows recruiting stars matter, I can come up with an example that they do not mean much. To agree with you guys, though, the best evaluation of recruiting would be the other offers the prospect had.

Stars do matter, on the whole.

And the hyperbolic argument against it of "Well, how come these guys aren't working for the NFL" or for every "Ndamukong Suh I can name you 5 Jordy Nelson's taken in the 5th round that turned out to be great" is such horseshit.

See both articles:

http://www.thedailygopher.com/2010/4/22/1436208/nfl-draft-projections-vindicate (http://www.thedailygopher.com/2010/4/22/1436208/nfl-draft-projections-vindicate)

The reality is there is A LOT of money in the recruiting analysis and more and more resources being put towards it have generated much higher degrees of accuracy over the years.  Are there still anomolies?  Yes.  But, on the whole, the the NFL draft in itself vindicates the star ranking system, and does so convincingly.

The overwhelming vast majority of NFL draft picks in the first four rounds were 4 stars or higher out of high school.  That's a fact.

And the reality, whether any Snyder apologist wants to accept it or not, is that the collegiate programs with the higest ranked classes full of the highest ranked players, compete at the highest level of college football, play for championships, and consistently and have the most players taken in the draft annually.  You can't even defend it otherwise.

So, we can pretend all day that they don't matter, but the reality is, if you don't recruit at a high level within the modern ranking structure, and you're going to depend on filling your roster with low level talent, you're going to perpetually be fighting an uphill battle and continually be behind the competitive curve.

I have more respect for the "we won't ever get the elites so we need to coach them up," view point than the "our recruits really ARE elite, but simply hidden gems" view point.  The latter is just stupid.  rough ridin' stupid.

The jackasses on Wabash who are defending our amazing low recruting ranking are doing so based on theories of Snyder's recruiting that were developed years ago, and have since been disproven time and again.

Brent Venables ain't walking through that door....

These anomolies DO happen.  For example, I will predict that the frequency with which we see UT have a season like last year is approximately the frequency with which we will see KSU have a season like UT had the year before.

No doubt the kid's classes have been pre-audited so they already know he can overcome the herculean obstacles ku places in front of Juco transfers.

Congrats WtW and congrats Tundra, no doubt you're a Rhodes Scholar.

Does it baffle anyone else that any tard would actually pay for a 'premium' site to see this load of crap before anyone else does?

Tard 1 "Wow, can you believe we got that kicker that also was looking at Boise?"
Tard 2 " Yeah, he's gonna rock and make Cherry look so stupid."
Tard 1 " Should we tell Dobbie about him?"
Tard 2 " Hell no, that's why we pay for this stuff.  He'll find out on that other board soon enough anyway."

Tard 1 & 2 "Yep.      (ftp://:lol:   )"

Remember when Bill had changed and revolutionized his recruiting?  He was totally gonna be more modern and stuff and start bringing in decent recruits.  Remember this?

Good recruiting convo. going on GPC right now discussing our recruiting class sitting at dead last in the B12.  It's only in it's first page but they've already covered:

-Yeah, well, Ron Prince had some highly ranked classes and you see how those turned out
-Obvious Turner Gill/Ron Prince comparo to explain Turner's class being ranked much higher
-Glen Mason and Terry Allen out recruited Bill according to Rivals and he destroyed them
-It's not the talent you bring in it's how you coach them
-Rivals rankings are bullshit
-Stars don't matter
-I'll trust our staff's evaluation of talent over Rivals and other coaches who haven't offered
-We should be able to count the grey shirt kids who we counted last year in this year's class again
-We are addressing issues we have and this is more important than talent
-Totally serious references to hidden gems and diamonds in the rough

I can't believe there weren't more Ty Zimmerman Freshman AA mentions.
