As long as the stadium is full, we're just happy to lose in the wild card round every other year when the schedule is easy due to sucking the year before.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

You can be upset about the deal, but this doesn't make any sense.

is there a way that the people of jackson county can sue the chiefs ownership for robbing them of their tax dollars?

i think the truth can often be seen in your immediate reactions to certain things.

i cringed when i heard about this deal. now this of course comes with the obligatory "i don't hate smith, he's a good qb" stuff but yeah, not exciting as a franchise QB. i dunno - hope i'm wrong.

Nothing screams confidence in a signing like announcing it on the Sunday evening of Labor day weekend :sigh:

The Race to 60 (60 combined years of no playoff wins for Royals and Chiefs).

You don't think playing the Bills and Browns didn't help last year?  Smith is just good enough not to screw up games the rest of the team should win.  He's average at his position.  He'll have a year like last year where playing two extra last place teams will get him two extra wins.  This year they are relatively lucky to get Pitt and Tenn as their 2nd place teams, but SD gets an extra free win with Jax.  After this years 3rd place finish they'll get a couple easier wins in 2016 to make getting to lose in the wildcard round easier.  With Smith now taking up $17mm of the cap it'll be that much harder to surround him with players that can go out and win games for him to not screw up.

I'd like to suggest they should have signed Justin Houston 1st, since he's like infinity times better.

It will be cheaper to franchise tag him.

Either player COULD have been franchise tagged. Chiefs did this in the correct order.  They traded having very little leverage against Smith for having a bunch of leverage against Houston.

The Smith deal isn't THAT bad for KC.  He's now payed like a top 10 guy, and not top 5. The only reasonable replacement for Smith is either already on our roster now at a very cheap price, OR will be drafted between now and the end of Smith's guaranteed money.  Free agent quarterbacks that are superior to Alex Smith don't exist every year, and frequently don't pop up over a period of years.  By the time Smith's deal has run it's course, we'll know what we have in the young guys....OR, one of our cheap young guys takes over.

Houston now has to negotiate a favorable deal or get tagged.  Then, if he still doesn't negotiate, we can franchise him again.

Pete is right to an extent, the biggest problem I have with this is KC is the only team that was going to give Smith a contract that put him in the top 10 of a list like this

I agree with you, but it's a two way street.  Smith is the only thing out there at that muddy "Ok, but not great" level at quarterback that the Chiefs could have landed.

I don't like that Alex Smith is the Kansas City quarterback one bit, but I get it.  I don't blame Dorsey or Reid.  In fact, I think they have done a good job so far (apart from Dwayne Bowe).

All of our good players (Jamaal, Houston, Tamba, DJamer, etc) were here already. Dorsey's legacy is Fisher/Smith. Just awful.

Houston and to a lesser extent Jamaal were not being used as well as they are now, so Dorsey gets some credit.
Smith is the best QB we've had since Montana or maybe Green.
Dorsey took us to our best record in 10 years and a 9 game turnaround.

WHAT AN AWFUL LEGACY!
