I couldn't agree more. If you like it, drink it.

Deustches Brewery Obsidian Stout. Been on a stout kick lately and this is as good as I've had lately. One thing I like about it is the lack of sweetness, seems like a ton of stouts lately are too sweet for me.

maybe you can help.  I haven't had many stouts because I would usually rather drink hefeweizens, but I had a couple stouts lately which I really liked (Left Hand Milk Stout & LHMS Nitro were the bee's knees).  As far as mass-produced, available everywhere stouts I really like Murphy's.  I've had some oatmeal stouts that were OK, but I didn't love them.  are there any stouts you'd recommend for someone like me? TIA

The left hand stouts are both really good, especially if you enjoy the sweet flavors. You may want to try Buffalo Sweat Vanilla, it's along the same lines. I like Sierra Nevada's quite a bit, Beamish is an old favorite like Guiness. I enjoyed Schlafly's oatmeal. Honestly, I just go to a liquor store with a nice micro beer selection and try different brands. I usually buy a sixer of something I know I like as well cause I've ran into some stouts I really haven't cared for, same as any other style. I bought some Sam Adams tonight, not sure why I haven't tried their stout yet.

*edit - Sam Adams' Cream Stout is pretty decent. Very smooth.

I've had a few that were enjoyable but as a whole, maibocks are one of my least  favorites. I'd probably say hefeweizens are probably my least favorite though.

I usually like pretty much everything Odell does so I gave this a try. Tastes like chocolate milk alright. It's tasty but I'm glad it came in a 4 pack because that's about all I would want to drink at one time.

If you had to tour one brewery in Denver and its surrounding area what would it be? Right now we're doing Great Divide but I'm pretty meh about that one.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Inside city limits of Denver Great Divide is your best bet. I wouldn't tour it though I'd just hit the tasting room and grab a pizza from the pizza truck that sits outside it. Breckenridge moved all their brewing ops to Denver as well. Flying Dog actually has a satellite mini brewery and tasting room there that's pretty fun but it has very limited operating hours. All three of those are within a 5 minute walk of each other so I'd just do that. Wynkoop brewpub is also right there as well as Falling Rock Tap House which is kind of like Auntie Maes with like 100 beers on tap.

This. However Great Divide is very fun to drink at. Just south of denver is Dry Dock which I have heard great things.

If I were you I'd start at Wynkoop for lunch, walk to Falling Rock, walk to Breck, walk to Flying Dog and end up at Great Divide for dinner and a pizza. Boom, stud booze day.

EDIT: here is the pizza truck that sits outside of Great Divide http://www.yelp.com/biz/basic-kneads-pizza-denver

I got drunk as eff at Avery up in Boulder. It's not that cool (hidden behind a strip mall in a weird part of town), as opposed to downtown Denver, but I love their beer.

Between the brewery tour advice and the travel thread/booking I feel a lot better about the $50/month premium fee I pay for this site!
