Johnson ain't injured.any more. Williams is not playing.

Sneed. Man he is good. Patrick is a outside threat. Love will be good eventually, he is a good slobber knocker. He was pushing Johnson sometimes.

Will make the NIT.
-
Talked to an NBA scout who attended. Said we'll compete for the conference. Said B-Dub is a fabulous coach, who has tons of second level cred.
-
Sounds like he will blame a lack of toughness by his players (who he recruited and signed)

can we get an updated reno nicknames chart? anyone? pls, k thx

there are consequences to what reno has done

This is the easiest non con schedule all-time, winning 20 gets an NIT bid and Oscar an extension

oscar. Channeling Caddyshack. Awesome.
“When good players get in that zone,” Weber said Monday at K-State’s media day, “Chevy Chase kind of made fun of it with the do-do-do and all that stuff. Dean looked at me like I was crazy, but you have got to be in that zone all the time. That just comes with the course of time, being relaxed, confident. If he can take that step he will be one of the better players in the league.”

Gor, I got to watch the scrimmage/practice with learnin and Puffdad on my annual football trip to Manhattan - was just lucky that the scrimmage was on the same day. Here's my take:
Ten guys will play most of the minutes this year, and this is the way I see the rotation. Starters: DJamer, Wade, Wesley, Stokes and Brown. Honestly, I don't see how you can keep Brown's scoring out of this lineup. Sixth men A and B (and first off the bench) will be Sneed and Ervin. Ervin is better than last year, and is more than adequate as a back-up point guard. Actually, in the scrimmage he pushed the ball on the break better than Stokes. I'm a little concerned about Stokes, because I don't think he's completely healed from the knee surgery. He looked a half step slow, and was reluctant to push his game. So, Ervin may be VERY important to the success of this season. Sneed is a better shooter than I thought. His form is nice, and he nailed two threes from opposite corners. He didn't do much inside, so I can't really say much about that. Back to the starters. I liked the way DJamer and Dean worked together, with a number of nice passes between them creating scoring opportunities. Dean didn't hesitate to shoot the three, and seems more confident than last year. DJamer showed a number of good, strong inside moves, and was dominant inside in this scrimmage. He may still have trouble in conference with bigger posts guarding him. The third guy in this rotation will be Maurice, who has enormous upside. He's lithe and quick, and can shoot the 3. Budke will round out the inside rotation, and foul trouble may dictate how much he plays. Williams was apparently hurt, and didn't suit up, and Love is at least a year away from seeing the floor.
I've already expressed my concerns for Stokes, but I have none for Brown. As we know from last year, he's a natural scorer and is even better than last year. Puff told me that he's the toughest practice matchup on the team - extremely hard to guard and stay in front of.
BIG NEWS - the Westicles experiment (new shot) may turn out to be a good thing after all. He has absolutely transformed his shooting form. I thought I was watching a different player. And the best part of it - the ball was going in! Wes could move up to All-Conference second team, and I expect him to.
Patrick will be the 8th or 9th guy off the bench, and will add depth and scoring. I really like this guy.
Overall, the scrimmage was sloppy at times, with too many tipped passes, turnovers and lack of continuity on offense, but it was very competitive, and defense was definitely ahead of offense.
The leadership should be good with four seniors, all of whom will be in the top 10 rotation.
Here's what I see for this team - Top 4 finish in the conference, 23-24 wins, easily in the NCAA field with a decent seed.

Optimism!

oscar screamed at the team like a maniac after the scrimmage on saturday after all (most) of the fans had left. it was during their group huddle/friendship circle thing. he was very very mad. yelling things like "NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE IF EVERYTHING STAYS THE SAME"
-
In a cruel twist of fate, pulitzerdave is going to cause there to be unrealistic expectations for this team, which may be the most adverse adversity yet.

Thanks for the breakdown. I am very excited about.this bunch. It is nice to be optimistic. I started quivering watching Maurice. He is like a quicker Claws. I think his moniker will be Mr. Bullnuts. We aren't going to be a flashy bunch, but solid meat and taters. Sneed will be the gravy we didn't have last year. If Budke, aka Hot Horndog, plays much, oscar will be gone. It looked like to me Budke was the cause of some of the sloppiness.
-
No one even raises an eyebrow that Budke is going to get minutes :(

This. No way we compete for anything if we don't even have enough talent/depth on the roster to keep Budke on the bench.

Where did you find this masterpiece? Budke and depth in the same discussion? # 4 seed

I have the bandwagon out of the shed. It is gassed up. I'm honking the horn hollering for anybody who wants to hop on. We're going to be better than last place in this league. You have too much depth with the good and good blend of experience. If Oscar can't do better than ninth with this bunch you should be canned.
-
I hope everyone realizes this means all oscar has to do to keep his job is finish better than 9th. :dubious:

If he finished at or below 5w in conf, he better be shown the door.

NCAAs or gone. Period.
How about an NCAA win at the very minimum? He has yet to even win a tournament game since he has been here and this is year 5.
A 10-12 seed and a first round loss shouldn't cut it.
-
I hope everyone realizes this means all oscar has to do to keep his job is finish better than 9th. :dubious:
What? How do you figure?
-
Expectations:
NCAA 6 seed or better.
Play to seed in tourney.
0 or 1 loss in non conference (and that should be EASY to achieve. Wooftastic scheduling, oscar)
0 or 1 loss at home.
This is year five. Ninth place???? Ninth???!!??? If we finish ninth oscar shouldn't even be coaching in the big 12 tournament.

National championship or gone. Period.

I guess I just want to see guys perform in the same role they will be in before I anoint them. Not sure I agree that KU brings back a lot. KU brings back Mason and Graham, with a post player that is only good on one end of the floor, and from there it is a bunch of bench guys and freshman. Sorry, I have to see Bragg make a shot outside of a foot before I pencil him in as great. Same with Svi, gotta do it every night. Same with ISU. No Niang and the dude with dreads inside, what kind of production do they get from their Bigs?? Huge question mark to me. How good can Morris be as the main guy. Can Thomas make shots when people don't have to pay much attention to the post players?? Will Burton actually give effort all the time and do more than just look to score?? Baylor, who do they have to replace their studs inside beyond Motley?? How do you know that Underwood is a huge step up in coaching?? Why is Evans given all kinds of love for returning, but Stokes, who lit up UNC, is an afterthought??
Just seems that what these coaches are saying is this: KSU, although a crappy record, competed hard most every game, with a bunch of freshman in huge roles. KSU has a 3rd Team all conference guy returning, 3 guys on the all newcomer team, maybe the best offensive post player in the league, who is finally healthy returning, a 4 star recruit, and ten extra practices and five extra games, but KSU is actually going to be WORSE than last year???
All these other teams have all these new guys in new roles, but KSU is the team that is going to be WORSE?? Westicles goes from 3rd Team to no mention?? Our three returning newcomer team guys, no mention?? These guys are all going to be worse this year???
Ridiculous
I guess these predictions make it even more puzzling to me. So last year, in a veteran, loaded Big 12, KSU is coming off a dumpster fire year with massive defections, but we are picked 8th. This year, in a league with ??????????????? everywhere you look, we return 75% or whatever of our production, but we are picked lower??
Add to that Westicles is 3rd Team all conference last year, but not even mentioned as HM in the preaseason???
We have 10 extra practices and extra games, but these coaches really feel we will be much worse?? Doesn't make sense to me.
Who did we piss off?????
Such BS
This is a good thing. Our teams roster is what it is. This is what the other coaches think of them. We can be sure our coaches and players will use this for motivation.
This is where I'm at. It is the same with the football team. How many times have we seen Coach Snyder's teams picked for 5th or lower in the conference standings, only to see them greatly exceed expectations. I think our basketball team is capable of doing the same.
Yeah, I guess I just don't get it. I know we only won 5 games, but those 5 wins were all comfortable wins, we didn't win a single conference game that went to the wire and we pulled it out, those 5 games were all over with two minutes left, so you can't say we stole a game somewhere. But we lost three OT games, had a buzzer beater against Texas at home, those were 50/50 games that obviously could have gone either way.
Add to that the fact that we were relying on the same guys to win last year that we will rely on this year, in the same roles.
Basically these coaches are just saying DJamer, Wes, Wade, Stokes and Brown are garbage. That is what they are saying.
Only Texas and KU has more than one guy rated higher than Sneed. Baylor, TCU and OU each have one guy rated higher than Sneed, but all of these other teams are going to put new guys in new roles, a couple with new coaches, and they are going to be better than KSU??
I just don't see how this wouldn't just absolutely stoke the fires for our guys. No way you can look at this and not get a HUGE chip on your shoulder.
OSU, really?? Was Evans playing any better than Stokes before injury?? I know he lit up KU, but hell, Stokes lit up a better team in UNC. Forte is a one dimensional player.
Tech?? Going to just keep rolling along after losing Tubby and a couple of hard nosed, gritty seniors??
If I am on that staff and on that team in purple, I would have the biggest case of red a..... possible. If our guys don't play with incredible fire and desire, something is definitely wrong.
-
Great. Bulletin board material. We should be fine.
-

that graphic says kstate was picked 8th, so all you picked 9th quislings can leave the family.
-
I hope everyone realizes this means all oscar has to do to keep his job is finish better than 9th. :dubious:
What? How do you figure?
Some people who are frustrated that he hasn't been fired yet pretend there's almost nothing he can do to actually be fired. John Currie doesn't have high performance standards for basketball, but they do exist.

The tucks need to realize that being picked 9th was more of a reflection on our head coach than the players we have coming back. We have the worst coach in the league, and I don't think that's even arguable. I would trade him for any of the 9 other coaches in the league after OSU got Underwood and TCU got Dixon from Pitt. I don't think there are any fans from other Big 12 schools that would trade their current coach for oscar Weber either.
-
It's fair for those coaches to say those players are garbage, even if their underlying objection is to #oscar. Those players chose to play for him despite what the world knows, which means they had no other options and/or they're prohibitively dumb to be not garbage in any walk of life.

Last year Claws was sick a 1/3 of the year, looked like he had gonorrhea or something. He got real scrawny. Then someone convinced him to cut his maddog beard. He is now healthy, has put on meat, and has the maddog beard. Plus he has backups so he can play with zeal. Ignoramuses who put us at the bottom need to beware of the Claws.

I think we'll be pretty solid this year. :dunno:

looks like k-state hoops has a good squad this year. seems definitely better than last year, and i will say best team since 2012 (the '12 team was actually rated better than the '13 squad).
good luck, but doubt you'll need it!

I can't remember what they were, just that they seemed unnecessarily risky.

if any non-ku or iowa state big 12 team strings together four straight top-4 finishes from 2016 to 2019, i'll pick up the tab for fatty fest 2019.
if k-state does it, i'll lay down in the middle of aggieville and let you run me over with a bus until i'm dead.
Looks like j rake isn't going to get run over by a bus. :frown:

if k-state does it, i'll lay down in the middle of aggieville and let you run me over with a bus until i'm dead.
i'll take this deal. but i'd like to use years 2-5 following weber's firing or retirement.
you've got yourself a deal, but the bet is void if oscar pearl, kelvin sampson or anyone widely considered to be equal or greater than fred hoiberg takes the job.
Or maybe he will! :ksu:

So 2015-16 was the first of the 4 years for the minor bet. Texas, OU and WV are the teams to keep your eyes on.
We'll have to wait a while for sys' opportunity to come into play.

man, that'd be great if huggie's wvu teams could be the agent of jrake's doom.

now that hoiberg is gone from iowa state, i'll let you throw them back into the mix also.

The Flush is energized. Look out world.
-
Why do I think we will be better? Dogbite Ervin will start, and he his playing with fearless grit and is not afraid to attack. Kam, aka Deathbite is hesitant, but will be a good spark off.the bench. Second,.quality depth at each position. Last year when the second.wave came in we faltered and lost.ground.we could not come back from. I do not think there will be such drop off this year from subbing. Our depth means we can better match our lineup to the other team's. More people means playing defense all out all of the time. Sneed provides so much versatility. We lose Big Meat loafer and gain 3 mobile bigs, 10 more fouls. Claws and DJamer should be able to play more freely knowing if they go out the world has more option Bulldozer Budke, aka.Hot Horndog. Flush Brown is improved and Westicles can shoot better now.
-
i thought the loss of deathbite was why we didn't make the tourney last year?

“If we’re going to be really good,” said Weber, “if we’re going to live up to those three votes in the top 25 poll, now, who is going to be eight and nine (players in the rotation). Are they going to be productive and give us something every game?”
Set that bar high oscar, live up to those 3 votes.

oscar never fails to deliver. Unbelievable.
Also this:
“Just looking at us,” said Weber, “we were close last year. The double-overtime losses, the overtime losses, the last-second shots if they go in, we win. Now, the question with us, did we take the step?”

That 3-vote line is either him mocking rube fans or him begging to be fired. I mean, it's too transparent of a troll to actually be taken seriously as motivation.

Yes. It's crazy. I have no idea how he's ever won at decent rate, even with someone else's players. The mentality of mediocre.
-
During the final part of last year we were down to a gassed Brown, Hopper, Wes, an injured Dogbite, and a shellshocked.Wade. Our subs were Hurt, Budke, and Vulture. If we aren't 5 games better than last year, goodbye Oscar. Especially given the league is less strong.

9. Kansas State Wildcats
Strength: Many happy returnees
The Wildcats return five players who started at least 11 games - and averaged more than 20 minutes per contest - last season. So they're experienced at all five positions. The best of the bunch is Westicles - a 6-7 forward who averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists while earning all-league honors. If he's good on the wing, and The Flush and Claws improve on their nice freshmen seasons, KSU might be able to avoid the ninth-place finish the Big 12's coaches have predicted for them.
Weakness: Talent lacking
The issue for KSU is that its experienced players are mostly unheralded recruits. Not a single one was ranked in the top 125 of his high school class, according to 247Sports. And oscar Weber's past four recruiting classes have ranked eighth (2013), fifth (2014), ninth (2015) and ninth (2015). In a league like the Big 12, that eventually catches up with you. Such is the main reason why Kansas State is 13-23 in the Big 12 the past two years and projected to finish near the bottom of the league again this season.
X-Factor: Deathbite
Stokes played 21 games last season, starting 20, and Kansas State was 13-8 in those games. But he suffered a season-ending knee injury against Ole Miss, and the Wildcats went 4-8 without him. It's hard to say how much of the disparity between K-State's record with and without Stokes has to do with him as opposed to just how the schedule unfolded. Either way, Kansas State undeniably is better with him. Now the Wildcats need the 6-0 sophomore to return from that injury as an even better version of what he showed last season.
Projected regular-season win total: 15
The Wildcats have been picked ninth in the Big 12. And the ninth-place team in the Big 12 usually wins about four or five league games. So even with a non-league schedule that should be mostly simple, it's still doubtful that Kansas State will finish above .500. My prediction is that KSU wins 15 games in the regular season and misses the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year, which could be dangerous for its on-the-hot-seat coach (oscar Weber).

Just checked OSU's schedule to see why Garth was already down there. They play Pitt State right after we do. Early comparative scoring opportunity!
KSU: 85-72
OSU: 117-64; Big Country Reeves' kid hit a 3.
It was probably a matter of Pitt leaving it all on the fOOD fLOOR to keep it close in their super bowl and having nothing left in the tank tonight.

Did Underwood hit anyone during a timeout?

Did brad take his main players out with 15 minutes to play?
-
Did Underwood hit anyone during a timeout?
I didn't see any timeouts. There wasn't even an on-screen score/time display for the last 5 minutes or so I watched. I'm guessing not as by that point he was playing his own kid and then later Big Country's kid and what I gathered were other osu people's kids. They showed Big Country crammed into an arena seat and that was kind of lol.
-
Wow! You watched this game?

Did brad take his main players out with 15 minutes to play?
Great point. That is why comparative scoring rarely means much.
-
I'll reserve judgment until the Washburn scores are available, provided Washburn isn't barnstorming 300 miles in the middle of the night to play osu the next morning.

Couldn't tell you if the main players played all of the first 14 minutes or even who they are, but this says it was 42-10 at that point and also that the most minutes any osu player played was 21.

I thought we were talking about comparative scoring, and I think the Cats play Washburn this week. It was a simple question along the conversation. And I was truly curious about the score. I would like to know how Washburn will be this year too.

Also, while I was google news'n him to see if there might just be a good pic from last night, saw this article:

Underwood narrated a new hype video that accompanied the Cowboys onto the floor.
The video highlighted OSU's rich history, emphasizing coaches Henry Iba and Eddie Sutton, players Bryant “Big Country” Reeves, Desmond Mason, Tony Allen and others.
Absent from the history: anything from the Travis Ford era.
No Byron Eaton or Markel Brown or Marcus Smart or LeBryan Nash. Not even Keiton Page, who remains on the staff as assistant director of player development.
 Awesome to see the Frank's crew vs. Ford's crew feud continuing.

There is a good article in the Topeka Journal about Gravy Sneed modeling his game after Westicle's. Wes is willing to help hiim.

It is exciting to watch the MANADO come in as a whirl of action; he is good. Claws was off but looks good. Westicles is just a mancho. The quiet killers were Dogbite and Flush. This year we are faster. Bullnuts will be important off.the bench.
-
That second half was :bang: :Yuck:
14 turnovers and 32% FG.
-
reno, we need to talk about MANADO

Don't tell some fat.chicken farmer has this name coined. When Sneed.puts.it.into Man-nado mode he is like a huna ttornado. I am open to any name. This duy is tge real deal.

Sneed appears to be Oscar's best-ever Cat recruit. He already has the swagger that Wade will never have.

What an ugly looking game. Due to conflicts, I have watched zero seconds of Bruceketball so far this year, hopefully I can watch the next one. Also, K-State decided not to provide 1st half only stats for this exhibition. I do plan to do seperate threads/titles for real games again this year. Probably.
-
We had 46 points at half. We had 7 TOs on our first 9 posessions (or something absurd) to start the second half.
-
Tobias, Sneed is Thee Xplosion.
-
http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state
I agree with this article. I think Thee Xplosion will be 6th man of the year. Claws 1st team and Bullnuts a newcomer. Westicles MVP, maybe. The only downer is Love in a boot. We lost 5 whomping fouls to give and pushing Hot Horndog higher in the rotation. I don't know what to make of Swampthinv yet.

Apparently we need to take a field trip over to Lawrence to look at the basketball rules so we know what game we are playing
“We got sets in, but I really didn’t want to run them,” he said. “I want them to learn how to play basketball, because when you play good teams and you play on the road they don’t let you run your stuff so you have to play basketball and make plays.”

He's said almost that exact same thing several times in the past. I rough ridin' hate him.

“My wife and I were driving the other day and we were, like, ‘D.J.’s been here forever. It’s unbelievable.’ It was from the start for us,” Weber said. “He has been through some positive things, like winning the Big 12 Championship and going to two NCAA Tournaments. Then he goes back to his hometown, St. Louis, and he breaks his foot against Kentucky and then he has all the surgeries, boots and doubts, but he has stayed very focused and worked very hard.
^^^ That's not even one of mine
“It’s a lot of motivation to get back. We struggled last year with those little things and it’s motivation to get back and correct those errors we made,” Johnson said. “I want to leave the fans happy and leave them with something they can remember, whether it’s us making the NCAA Tournament or winning some kind of championship this year.”
Not that kind of championship?

Well, you won't be able to fault oscar's squad for the demise of the mid-range jumper.

Just realized we're playing. We better win.

Maurice is like something created in a video game: "hey, what if I made a 7 foot guy that was 100 on shooting and 0 on everything else, lol"

This is correct. I didn't even check, I just checked ESPN3. The channel listed on the schedule was Fox Sports Midwest though, so FSGO had it.

-
Hate oscar and our Brucey image so much. I just cant wrap my head around an AD who fully embraced our home court being called the OOD, yet he hires and stands behind this numbnuts.
-
had she made this comment before we found Korn, she could have landed that third assistant gig maybe
-
I am not.opposed to any kind of motivation that works. I am assuming Westicle's motivation is I am a senior, and I want to do good so I can play pro ball in Europe. CNS is right that oscar public persona makes you wonder if he has a few stray squirrels lose in his head chewing on his synaptic wiring. Oscar is opposite of Martin, and I believe the reason he was hired. At least he isn't opening a.whore house like Louisville or a job scam like Syracuse. My main beef about.oscar is poor player.discipline at times, not sticking up for players, and inability to get big name impact recruits. My oscar ire will always be directed at Currie, and not at oscar or the team. Curdog hiring Snyder replacement is what really concerns me. I am going to milk all of the enjoyment out of basketball I can even if it is a milking goat.
-
I would be fine with a wore house scam job combo.

We should start a game where we guess the difference between our announced attendance and how many actually show up. I went Sunday and there could've have been more than 4K at the most. Officially it was listed at 11300. I can't believe we have that many season tickets/tickets sold.

Those guys that say maybe we should just keep oscar around for the entertainment value of the things he says might not be wrong...
In Kansas State’s first two basketball games, forward Claws had a total of seven points and three rebounds. Coach oscar Weber wasn’t about to push the panic button.
“He’ll be fine,” Weber said after Game 2 against Omaha. “He’s a good player. LeBron James has bad days. They all do. He’s a great kid and he wants to win.”

Propping up LeBron here is gonna be a tough thing for some to reconcile with how LBJ put Foster on the dope.

These refs are rough ridin' horrible

This is team is growing towards being good. It is developing anti-squirrel attitudes despite of Oscar. High motor Bigs with DJamer and Bullnuts. Last year Big Meat loaf was a flop. I cringed last.year when we went to the bench. Hot Horndogs is a fan favorite, but there is a reason why he wasn't a D1-recruit. I wish Diarra and Love weren't hurt. I hope xWhomper can get untracked.

Unlikely, unless Brad comes home, which is equally unlikely.
-
Where are we at? We have productive senior leaders. We have a gritty shooting guard who is consistent. We have two subs coming off the bench who will.impact games.(Bullnuts and X-plosion). Concerns are the Bite brothers and Claws. Carl B. And Dean have to get better fast. Hopefully the next games against puds will help. Set these guys gruns on fire and we can have a good year yet.
-
I'm looking at the schedule-maker in the mirror.
Kansas State basketball coach oscar Weber heard objections from his assistants when he informed them he planned to play Green Bay this season.
The Phoenix, of the Horizon League, are coming off a season in which they reached the NCAA Tournament under second-year coach Linc Darner. They also play an up-tempo style filled with traps and presses that remind some of West Virginia. There are much easier nonconference opponents out there.
“Initially, when I did the game our coaches said, ‘Why are we playing them?’ ” Weber said Tuesday. “I thought about Texas and West Virginia. You want a game that is going to prepare you for what you see in the league.”

they haven't played a close game yet. smallest margin of victory is 12. i bet you're thinking they've beat the crap outta some 300'y teams and got their ass kicked by some sub 50s. nope, five games (2-3) against teams between 131 and 204.

I am not an Oscar buttleach. We should not though be so down on this team so hard. They are much better than last year, and the big 12 isn't. I don't think we will lose another game in 2016. 2017?
Coach Cornboy is an improvement.

We'd be in if we beat KU, Baylor, and WVU at home and picked up a road win. We might end up 9-9, but we sure as crap aren't beating KU, Baylor, and WVU at home. Maybe go 1-2 in those games and pick off Texas and TCU on the road. Probably not in the tourney in that scenario.

My main hopes are still ....
1) go 4-0 at home vs Isu/Osu/Tech/Tcu
2) win 2 of 3 at home vs BU/WV/Ku
3) go 3-3 at Osu/Isu/BU/Ou/Texas/Tcu ( I'm counting an L at WV already)
It would be great to sweep the top 3 at home and still be 8-1
I just don't want to lose both at Isu/Osu and be 0-3 at Tech-Clones-pokes

eff off, wacky. jk yeah missed that earlier.

Legit question: I'm looking at going to a Mountaineer home game over the next month (hard to get to many hoops games as I live 3 1/2 hours away) and I'm not quite sure who to go see WVU beat. Are the cats in Morgantown worth the trip? Or should I go to another such as TT(:shakesfist:), A&M (B12/SEC Challenge bs) or the 'clones?
-
How do the refs give us the L today?
-
any of those big 12 games sounds fun, cdub. i wouldn't waste your time on a&m though.
-
it probably comes down to which of those schools you hate the most. that will be the funnest game.

He played well. Nice mid range jumper then he even decided to pull a 3. Unfortunately several other guys played poorly.
Wade's reluctance to take a shot and his hesitation as if he's thinking what's to do next really slow the offense. That is how it appeared on tv at least.

Yeah I noticed that

Wade got called a wuss a few times in chat.

Wade got called a wuss a few times in chat.
There are games when he seems like a senior and then times when he seems like he doesn't belong.
-
I don't understand what changes for him. Maybe it's coaching. Maybe it's something personal
Maybe it's just who he is.
-
Also during the game they announcers were saying he was the most talented frosh we've have said B Easy. I hope our coaches didn't say that.
-
He was bothered by Baylor's length. It wasn't the greatest match-up for Wade. Still, he passed up several decent looks from 3 and in a game like this he needs to take them.

It is puzzling.

The passed up threes are mainly what I'm talking about. Plus the hesitation to drive until the defense gets there.

Yeah, he needs to shoot way more 3s.

I just realized with the addition of General Meyer we are the Oscar - Meyer© Wildcats (Curdog is ©). We are the FIGHTIN' LUNCHMEATS!

oscar is weird. He is fine with playing grinders with grinders. He is fine with uptempo against uptempoers. The thing that frustrates me is his best basketball seems to be uptempo. Just embrace it.

No hoops games for me this year. Can't even get a ticket to the Cats game for under 100$.

That has nothing to do with oscar being weird or whatever, we have no offensive identity, no tempo to force, so we're going to play however our opponent wants to play.

I think it might depend on his recruiting class. . . if he can actually pull in good players he can kinda Scott Drew his way till retirement.

If oscar were to be let go after this year, the new guy would inherit a reasonably talented roster. He'd need to go recruit a point guard since oscar hasn't had one of those since he got here, but we've got a scholly open and the rest of the roster is pretty balanced.

He is the most careless player with the ball on our whole team. He is not a fine point guard.
-
stokes isn't that good, and he's also not enough. regardless of who the coach is, they prolly need to add a juco point (it's possible we've already recruited one, dunno).
-
is there like 10 people there? can hear a pin drop
That was oscar screaming.
-
Stokes is undersized shooting guard that has been forced into action at point because of our recruiting deficiencies at that position. An above average three star high school point guard would start over him on day one. A JUCO point would be a no-brainer. He has absolutely zero feel for how to run an offense.
-
stokes isn't that good, and he's also not enough. regardless of who the coach is, they prolly need to add a juco point (it's possible we've already recruited one, dunno).
It think he has some issues. Specially at times stoping ball. Needs to get his TOs down. But I don't think it is fair to say he is not really good. He can really shoot and that solves issues.
-

That is his one skill, shooting. He should be splitting time with Brown at SG, which would have been very nice during that period when Brown couldn't hit anything. He's a reserve SG in a major conference, that is his talent level and skill set.
-

he has strengths. they just need a third guard. iwu isn't going to be there to run point forward next year.

Lol at Stokes haters.
-
he'd be a great combo to play 25 minutes next to a better pg. as a starting pg, he's below big 12 average.
-
I enjoyed how much Stokes hated defending bigs in whatever shitastic defense we were trying in the second half
-
Our starter minutes are out of control. oscar is grinding the eff out of them. Not developing a bench is hurting him.
-

Yeah, that's about right. I just like combo guards more than most

I think Angel was a better PG, but Kam is doing a decent job as a Soph PG. Soph stats....
Angel 12-13, B12 gms 12.3 pts 6.2 Ast 2.5 TO, 44.9 eFG
Kam 16-17, B12 gms 13.4 pts 5.0 Ast 2.9 TO, 49.7 eFG

No bigs. Did you see Maurice yesterday? Woah.
-
Yes, as of the current roster, getting a couple of decent bigs is the first priority. However, I think Brown, Stokes, Wade, and Sneed make a good foundation for anyone.
We'll see about Love and Diarra, who I think could both be pretty decent players.
I still think the roster will be in pretty good shape if a change is made. FWIW, I still don't think a change is likely. We likely will win most of our home games (even KU) and steal one more on the road because oscar will oscar.

This K-State team is still talented enough and good enough to play really good basketball. If they do that against KU, they will beat them. KU is still a flawed, incomplete team, even though they have much more talent than we do.

I agree. They are talented enough and could. Rupp isn't nearly as loud as Bram. Or at least it never seems so on TV. KSU will have to be very disciplined and not commit all the turnovers that UK did. I'm just not holding out hope. I'm a little deflated from the game last night so maybe I'm being a pessimist. Last night was the most emotionally invested in a basketball game in a very long time.

Booger-makers are the schedule-makers' side project.
-
Maurice is going to be very good.
He's almost nearing the end of his second season as a college basketball player and a 6'4" football player is the better option for his spot right now. Again I hate criticising college athletes, especially Cats, but facts is facts.
-
I disagree.
-
Maurice usually has a nice baseline J, but Saturday was rough off the side of the backboard

I really enjoy how Carlbe rebounds.

you guys really don't know that hotdogs was a stud football player?

I did not
-
you guys really don't know that hotdogs was a stud football player?
I heard it on the broadcast for the 1st time the other day, but didn't he play bball at hutch too? So I never thought twice about it I guess.
-
I guess I assumed bbal was his #1 sport:
Community College

He's didn't play football at hutch, he was going to walk on at Notre Dame but decided to play basketball instead
-
Gotcha. That makes much more sense now. Thanks!
-
The preseason was fun. Optimism.
NonCon was fun. Slightly enthusiastic and optimistic.
Whup butt Texas. Getting excited optimism turning to belief.
About beat KU and Chicken House. I am drinking rhe juice, believing in the promise land, ranked.
Tech loss. Disappointed, but believing rattled.
WVU win. Rocket fuel lit.
Nightmare. Wheels.come off. Implosion. 3 Bad dead animal.stink losses.
If we could play like we did against Oklahoma in the 1st half all of the time, we would be patty cakin with oscar in a padded room.
-
Decent questions and answers in Kellis' most recent twitter discussion.
http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article130540404.html
-
He has a good take that I can agree with. I don't know what I want to happen. I'll just let it play out and see what happens. I'll keep this tepid outlook aside from a tourney run or if we don't make the NCAA and oscar returns.
-
The lighting is really weird in there
-
We played about as well as one can hope for 16 minutes on Offense. Last 4 minutes I don't think, anything went well. 4 TOs and DJamer missing 1-and-1.
But being up 37-22 is pretty effing Sweet. Baylor has 10 TOs and 10 made shots (8FG 2FT).
-
Lucas dunk off TO
Jackson layup off TO
Jackson layup off TO
Mason layup off miss FG (scored with 26 on Shot clock)
Mason pull up 3 in transition
Bragg dunk when no one picks him up
Svi 3pt after OR
Grahm 3pt after OR on FT miss
19 pts...Too many easy ones
This doesn't even count Vick losing Brown and getting dunk from Bragg assist.
-
This team just doesn't have any composure in pressure situations. KU came out rattled, but they've done a better job of settling down than we have.
-
Maurice was an enormous liability tonight.
We played harder than they did. Just couldn't make the bunnies. Very frustrating. Then the refs swollowing their whistle on our end in the last 4 minutes to carry ku home.
-
I am assuming at best we would go 4-1 in the next games. No givemes though. Could be 1-4 easily.
-
that maurice guy, woooooooooooooooooof
-
no negative consequences
-
3 home losses now and 2 road wins.
You can't lose home games at that rate. I can live with 1, maybe 2.
And you have to win at least 1/3 of your road games. We may get there and if we win out at home we'll be a tournament team, but like always, oscar and this team have brought the margin of error for this team to zero.
-
I'm pretty sure we are solidly in.
-
It's going to take another disappointing home loss for us to be on the wrong side of this thing again.
-
going to the tourney is fun guys!

What is our MV record this year? Can someone help me out with that, kenpom doesn't supply a MV chart.

I wrote my own MV calculator because I don't need some fancy kenpom stats to determine when we actually won. The formula is actually quite simple.
Play hard chart outcome + |actual outcome| = W or L
I use actual outcome of -2 for loss and -1 for win. Play hard chart is either 1(W) or 0(L)
Anything over 1 is a MV
-
how do you get your hands on the raw play hard data? i've been looking all over for that.

-
Purple Passion: Out of the trashcan on to the Play Hard Chart! (Whoop!)
-
I started this thread by saying 20+. So I am sticking to it. My pleasant surprises for the year are Sneed, improved Claws, and DJamer. Dogbite and Bullnuts are my irks. The following is for everyone who has given up.
https://www.lovethatpet.com/dogs/questions/how-to-stop-dogs-farting/
I think ol oscar will surprise the Flabbybear and the mountingsteers.
-
Most damaging losses - IMO, Tech and TCU since we are fighting them for a tournament spot.
-
I'm ready for some cats bball
-
Loving the start
-
Go Cats!
-
Getting a lot of great looks and gimmes and can't hit crap. Per usual, not conducive to winning on the road.
-
:flush:
-
Cats are fine
-
We're playing already?
-
We're playing already?
DJamer isn't. Bad ankle. Out for the game
Brown isn't either. Well he is but his 0-3 FG 2-7 FT so far suggest he really isn't
-
lots of PHC points to eat with DJamer out
-
Told you cats were fine
-
Go Cats. Tied at the under 4. Ya baby.
-
Well that was a fun five minute sequence.
-
WVU doesn't know what to do with sandstorm
-
Budke for the last shot of the half
-
WVU doesn't know what to do with sandstorm a basketball.
-
Budke has 2 more 3's this game and 9 more this year than he should have in a game and season ever. So stupid
-
God, shut up. He's open and we're down players. Shoot away you beautiful bird.
-
I stand by my statement. Budke should never be outside the 3 point line unless he is running back and forth down the court.
-
He should never be inside either because he sucks, but here we are!
-
He should never be inside either because he sucks, but here we are!
I can agree on this Wacky!
-
Wacky, thoughts on your boy Maurice?
-
He blows ball sacks. My new crush is on Brian Patrick.
-
Wes just doesn't know how to handle this pressure at all. Come on man
-
We only had 6 TOs in 39 Poss. And we only let WV get 20% OR. Great job there
Just 5-14 on 2pt. Brown/stokes 0-4. The struggle continues. Wes had good 1st half.
-
Wes has always been a giraffe on skates. #careless
-
Wes just doesn't know how to handle this pressure at all. Come on man
We were fine 1st hf. But 2 straight bad TOs by Wes. And then Brown Jack's up a 3pt when he wasn't open.
-
Someone needs to tell oscar to take his jacket off again.
-
Where the eff is Brian Patrick? JFC!
-
No reason for oscar to not have already gotten himself teed up already.
Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
-
How the eff does the short slow white guy miss 2 free throws
Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
-
Calm down. Patrick is in.
-
Smart play by Patrick
-
7 TOs
3 trips to line. Budke misses 2, then Budke/Brown miss front end on 1-&-1.
That was 10 of our first 17 Poss in 2nd hf
-
I would be a prick and say I told you guys so but I won't be

:Ugh:

Wow Nostradamus! Great call$

:gocho:
-
Guys, TBT called an 8 point underdog losing, without the best big in the league playing. Write it down!
-
You're right, let's have a 4.5 minute per game guy who averages 1.1 PPG just jack 3's. That's what I call running this offense.
-
This game gives all of us a great glimpse on what to expect next year.
-
Spoiler alert: scraps are playing. That shits gonna happen when you have a short bench, dork.
-
Just let it rain Budke
-
This game gives all of us a great glimpse on what to expect next year.
I mean I guess you could make that conclusion, but we don't know what Diarra, Love, and the newcomers are all about yet.
-
Just let it rain Budke
 pretty sure he only took two open looks. Yup, that's why we got hammered. rough ridin' Budke taking open 3 looks with no one on the bench to cover him. eff that guy!
-
Mods, plz rename TBT to maddencat for his intense analysis.
-
-
The issue in the 2nd half is more than just Budke.
4:00 left...We have 12 TOs, 4 Dr and given up 8 ORs. We are also 5-14 FGs.
-
To be fair, Maddencat would be a boss board name.
-

Killing us on the PHC though. Thats what matters here.

God this team sucks without DJamer
-
tough loss, need to forget about it an regroup. in the end a loss here doesn't mattter (a win, however would have been huge)

I know this is dripping with sarcasm, but you aren't wrong. Do with that what you want.

no sarcasm at all (serious)
a loss here isnt damaging at all

they looked pretty great, actually. that lineup with wade at the 5 has shooters everywhere and is impossible to guard.

This, melting down over a road loss wo DJamer and with the rest of the lineup in foul trouble otr at wvu is pretty meh

Guys losing a few games is fine, it happens.
No worries, 10 seed is gonna happen.

What about the 2nd half?
I'm pretty sure WVU won the Play Hard/Purple Passion chart today guys.

they made a couple more plays in the second than we did. have to give them credit.

I wasn't expecting a win, and truthfully I wasn't expecting the loss to be 6-9 pts either. Tough task with your most valuable player out.

Foul trouble
-
Jordan Woodard, torn ACL. College career done.
Hate to see that for him. It does improve our chances to win in Norman
-
It could become a bad loss potentially if the bottom falls out in Norman right?
Losing to the worst team in the league (even with Woodard) would be a bad loss.

Projected Big 12 wins.
http://barttorvik.com/conf.php?conf=B12 (http://barttorvik.com/conf.php?conf=B12)
7: 15.5%
8: 29.2%
9: 30.6%
10: 16.6%
It is basically a coin flip between 7 and 10 ten wins. But the perceived difference from a sense of where the program is vast.

we are playing well so far it sounds like
-
wow no chat. :frown:
-
Such weird emotions watching this game for me.
-
oscar gonna oscar.
Let's not forget that we have 5 halves in our last 7 games of getting outscored by .40 ppp or more. So be ready for the 2nd half ride.
-
Texas is in worse shape than we are. I'm fairly confident that our guys will hold on to win this one.
-
I guess I'm just hoping for a good game. :dunno:
A win here shouldn't mean much for our tourney shot and oscar's future. A loss here would be a death knell, imo.
-
Stokes has more TOs than converted baskets on his lob passes
-
It's just raining 3's
-
We are shooting 93% eFG and only lead by 3.
-
1.41 ppp
-
We are shooting 93% eFG and only lead by 3.
It's comical. Even when we play really well it feels inevitable that we're going to lose. No way we keep up that pace in the second half.
-

But neither will Texas. These teams will manage to ugly up a 2nd half with a combined 3 made 3s and 45 total points. Someone will win in the last 4 minutes.
-
Because of the OR and TO advantage by Texas, they got 5 more FGAs and 3 more FTAs.
UT just 7-17 on 2pt, but 6-9 on 3pt. They only make 5.5 3pt per game. I
-
We shall see!
-
We had 6 TOs, but UT only got 2 pts in transition off any of those TOs. We also only gave up 2 2nd chance pts. So our Defensive issue is in the half court off of their initial shot.

Partially because they are shooting out of their heads from 3, but then again everyone seems to do that to us.
-
Someone should make an honest sign. "Do you know what a strange place it is to be where you want KSU cats to win but also oscar Weber to be fired? Currie! Help!"
-
Are you kidding me Allen
-
That's a hard foul.
-
What a pussy
-
Holy crap
-
Thank god I didn't play high school ball in this era.
-
Send DJamer after him if the game gets out of hand.
-
KState 3-10, Texas 2-9 on FGs this half.
-
Almost 8 minutes W/o a FG before Kam hit that 3pt

they just showed our NCAA resume. like we need reminding we aren't going. get out of our faces about it.

Guys. Wes is my favorite player since Pullen and he had a chance to seal the win and missed it by not dunking. Then UT guy goes and dunks. I love Wes a lot, but this team does not deserve a tourney berth.
-
Wes has maybe cost us 3 games with missed lay ups/FTs and TOs.
-
oscar and Bryce two peas in a timeout pod.

I know. He was never meant to be a leader. He is Scottie Pippen.

It was just a hard foul that looked worse than it was and some soft player got upset that some smaller less athletic guy showed him up and he threw a tantrum. Get up. Sink your free throws. Win the game.

the high five, i think.

Good on him for boooooing. Bad on him for getting that owned by oscar. Good on oscar for winning the moment. I'm not sure how I would have reacted, but I'd prefer to think I'd have a good line to tell him or pull him up to talk. Especially with a camera rolling.
-
It was a total Trim move in doing something for the crowd but also being too cowardly too follow through. It's an equivalent to posting at people from Twitter and your account is anonymous. Push came to shove and Testy lost. Got called out and backed down.

Some just aren't ready for the limelight. Not his fault really. He tried hard. I'm sure he'll do better next time. His bros are probably still patting him on the back.

i have to be honest, i did not like the high five. would have been much more powerful to refuse, but i understand that in the moment you probably don't think about that stuff.

like, when was the last time you refused a high five from someone? i'm not sure i've ever refused, it's almost impossible to do.

A great reaction could've been to perfectly mimic that time oscar leaned back from the ref who was giving it to oscar's face. Full circle and stuff. But I didn't mind the high 5 followed immediately by the hand going back to cupping the mouth for more booing. Really nothing tw did or could've done was going to be more lol than the fact that oscar was oblivious to what was going on and offered a high-five.
-
i thought weber knew exactly what was going on and attempted to diffuse

TW needs no defending. I was taking issue w/your specific suggestion of dab'n.

As in oscar is the sort who believes in doing and saying what's best for his public perception?
-
You can't say it was effective and say that Weber was oblivious to what was happening, those both cannot be true. Trim won't say it but Weber high fiving TW was oscar owning the moment, doesn't do much to lessen what TW did though, assuming his goal was to tell oscar that he thinks he sucks.

It was effective at entertaining me, and oscar's obliviousness was part of that entertainment.

This is all going as expected.

like, when was the last time you refused a high five from someone? i'm not sure i've ever refused, it's almost impossible to do.
weber exploited the social contract in a machiavellian display of dominance. or he just saw a guy in purple making noise and thought it was neat. the great part about weber is that it's pretty easy to imagine either is true.

agree 100%

I like TW, but it was a little much. Whatever. Go cats! Got the tucks in a frenzy, but it was definitely awkward to watch.

LOL that's perfect

I'm pretty confident that oscar was aware. But, yeah, I wouldn't bet on it.
-
Perhaps he thought the guy in purple was yelling "Bruuuuuuuuuuce"?

Yep.

They talked about this on 810 this morning.

this. oscar even says something like "yeah that was a great road win" before he reaches for the H5.

Testy Westy is officially a sound bite on 810's board. They used it last night on KK and this morning when bringing up the game.

It's a joke this is a 1 pt game
Why the eff is Budke in the game. He fouls, guy makes 2 FT. Then he isn't up close enough to Evans and he hits the 3. Know the clock. There was 2 seconds, he is not driving, he is gonna launch a 3.
14 point lead....Then 4 straight TOs, a technical by whinny Stokes.
-
OK st bench is 9-9 FG.

Chem E major tho

Can we have more pathetic offensive Poss??
DJamer missed his 3rd bunny shot of the night. Wade can't get the tip in. Then Stokes being Stokes...2 straight WTF plays. Throws a terrible entry pass to Dean, then a forced jumped he gets swatted
-
8 minutes into 2nd hf, OSU 8 ORs, Ksu 4 DRs.
Wes has 3 of those DR. Surprise surprise, no one else hitting the glass
-
The Cows hit 50 first. Let's see if oscar's crew can go against the numbers tonight (I stopped watching).

No you didn't
-
why do our guards pick up on ball defense at the basket side part of the mid court powercat? there's absolutely no reason to extend that far and it puts more pressure on the rest of the team. stupid stuff like this angers me.
there's no dribbling 5 second rule so back the eff up dumbasses

Numbers are numbers bud.
-
down 9 w/6 to go, time to bust out the hyper aggressive offense
-
Except for that pull-up 18 footer in transition by Wes, I think he has played really well, getting our Offense into some good sets, funding DJamer and Dean
Offense looks smooth when it's Wes DJamer and Dean working the outside to inside/inside to outside game.
-
We are really going to miss DJamer next year
-
AND WES!

9-0 KState run
16-2 Tech run (that crap can't happen at home)
19-3 Ksu run
9-13 FG with 2 3s, 26 pts plus 5 assist from Wes DJamer Dean.
Both of Sneed 3pt shots were rushed/not in rythym. You can tell he's frustrated. He wants to be able to make some shots, but he just can't get a smooth looking shot off.
-
First 9 Possessions... 3 TOs. 2 3pt shots that didn't hit the rim.. lol
At least Weber Sat Kam early after a brick & lazy TO
-
20+ wins. It wiil be interesting to see who steps foward as a star. I think Muarice and Williams will make a huge difference. Maurice supposedly can hit the 3 like Claws.
Did okay on first prediction. The rest......
