How do people feel about soccer games at football stadiums? I mean it's no Final Four at Lucas Oil
i mean, both games are played on a big rectangle so it seems like it would make a lot of sense
Well I really like dedicated soccer parks, and quite frankly, I've been really turned off with the trend in large NFL stadiums. UofPhx was okay (only Fiesta-ed there in the endzone) but I did not like Cowboys stadium even for football (seemed very sterile). Arrowhead was good for football (those sight lines ). I know they are driving ticket numbers with these choices, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. I would love to see a MNT game at an NFL field as my only experience thus far has been Mercy ParkTM.
FWIW I've been to Wembley and the French National Stadium in St. Denis and they're both sterile as well.
Details on the experience please.
I've also wondered if a lot of Euro teams have this issue since some many of them cross as "athletics" stadiums.
Not many deets to give really, I'm guessing that Stade dè France was modeled after Wembley, on the interior anyway. Like you said both are multi use facilities so while both have marks from their respective national teams in certain places, there's no charm or character. The only thing close was going into Prince William's box at Wembley. We made the climb that teams do when they win hardware, there's a set of really dodgy metal stairs that can't be great to climb after playing 90 or 120 minutes. They're nice but not awe-inspiring, its like what I'd imagine it would be like for a college basketball team playing their home games at the Sprint Center.
BTW I've also been too Old Trafford, Emirates, and Stamford Bridge. All were cool; Stamford Bridge is ratty as hell but their player facilities are great, and it's in a fun neighborhood. Emirates was nice and shiny and stuff, the fan amenities were great but they skimped on the player features, they have cool stuff but everything is smaller for the players than the other two which is weird because they have the most space of the three. Old Trafford has really nice fan and player amenities, best balance of the three.
