All of this talk -- although I am excited at the prospect of Sneed playing more -- is a reminder of how weak we are up front. Dean has turned it on of late, but I still have to see consistency to think we're a tourney team. Could happen, just not enough evidence yet to be confident. Given the lack of depth up front and that Sneed is not really a big at all, we're probably going to have to get those minutes from Carlbe. I'm more comfortable with Wes getting the minutes at the 4 than Sneed.

why doesn't Sneed play more?

I think most of it is that he's Wes's back up at the 3 with a few minutes at the 4, and Wes plays a lot. Stokes, Brown, and Ervin have played pretty much all the minutes at 1 and 2. oscar has to figure out a rotation to get him some more minutes, probably mainly at the 4 in smaller line ups, but then he's got to juggle Wade and whether or not Wade can give us effective minutes at the 5. Even DJamer is playing 60% of the time. Clearly, Sneed needs to be on the floor more, hopefully he'll bump up to 60% minutes by Big 12 play.

Agree. Sneed is playing just under 50% of the minutes right now, and we need him to be getting 60% of the minutes. Coming off the bench, if he doesn't play the first 5 minutes each half, that means he is on the court for 24 (maybe 25) of the other 30 minutes. I'm cool with that.

If Wes plays 30, that means 14-15 of Sneeds minutes will be with those 2 at the 3/4 Spots.
That still leaves 25-26 minutes for Dean at the 4.  At times, maybe he can even see some minutes at the 5 (especially if DJamer is in foul trouble)

We just need to play Maurice as a backup to DJamer right now, and only see minutes at the 4 if Wade is in foul trouble.  Thus, all the minutes at the 4 can go to Sneed and Dean

Dean and DJamer should take all the 5 man minutes. The 4 can be split between Dean. Sneed Wes and Maurice.

Asking Dean to play the 5 anymore than 5 mpg is asking for trouble.

No it isn't.  He doesn't defend the post great, but there aren't a bunch of huge posts besides Baylor who will kill us.  Landen Lucas?  gmab

His defense is bad, his rebounding is worse.

his defense is embarrassingly terrible

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Is Dean even capable of being a poor man's Shawn Rhodes?

I agree.  I saw Maurice play a bit of ball this season, but he has largely been awful.  I would rather take the 3pt shooting from Wade.

Wade is the 2nd best rebounder on our team behind only DJamer.

Agreed.  I like Wes as the 4 defensively when he and X are on the floor at the same time.  Then just play both X and Wes as a hybrid 3/4 thing offensively.

That doesn't disprove whether or not he's a good rebounder, just that he's our second best rebounder.

His per 100 rate of rebounding isn't terrible. His defensive rebounding is solid and his offensive rebounding is really good compared to past K-State players.

Dean's defensive rebounding is tick below average for a big 12 big right now. But has been better as the season has gone along. His first three games were awful. If you remove the first three games he is above average. I think he will end up being average.

His offensive rebounding rate is OUTSTANDING. Not out standing. Fourth in the big 12 for player that are taller than 79' and have played at least 40 mins.

Why?

He rebounded fine last year as a freshman, basically tied for 3rd best on the team with Edwards (DJamer and Hurt were better). His rebounding from OOC to Big 12 play was about the same. There is no reason to believe he won't have normal improvement.

Is this oversimplified? Dean rebounded the same in OOC and BXII last year because the noncon and conf season were more comparable -- Dean may have become more comfortable as a frosh as time progressed too. In this year's case, wouldn't one expect the output to decline coming out of this dumpster fire OOC into conference play.

In the end, Dean will probably just be inconsistent in both OOC and BXII play.

Don't forget he was motivated to get any ball he could last year b/c of no b2w.
