And this offense should be nicknamed The Almost Offense.
-
we are tricking them
-
Truman has to be like hurt or something
-
I'll reiterate...we're relying on too many white guys that are unathletic on defense.
-
ndsu has a better defense than we do
-
Truman has to be like hurt or something
I count 4 truman screwups. 2 missed takles for loss that end up as 1st downs, a facemask penalty and losing outside containment allowin a TD.
-
Thank god the ku game is at home. This is serious crap. All 3 phases are dogshit.
-
Truman cannot guard a back in the passing game.

Pretty much. :curse:
-
I'm throwing things everywhere. My cat is so scared.
-
Truman has to be like hurt or something
He is having an embarrassing 1st half. 2 huge missed tackles (the first one on the RB he was just clueless on.). Then the 15 yd fasemask. Then his lack of athletic ability/quickness and he can't get out there to defend the pitch man on that option TD run.
-
ndsu has a better defense than we do
They are a better team. Hopefully everyone around here takes Waters male genitals out of their mouths.
-
Why do we insist on playing Morgan Burns. He is a liability!

no crap we're all watching the game
-
Guys, kstate sucks b's and t's. It's ok. You get used to it.
-
Can you imagine what this defense will look like against Auburn? We are getting a rough ridin' train put on us by rough ridin' mangino and paul rough ridin' rhodes.
-
My rough ridin' god
-
literally what in the actual eff

This 20+ point loss ISU is about to give us, can't believe this is happening, will be nothing compared to the beat down Auburn lays on us. FML

:flush:
-
Not one bright spot in this game
-
This is shaping up to be an interesting season on GE :dunno:
-
we've allowed 28 points to isu in the first half
-
Not one bright spot in this game
The bright spot is Charles Jones but we are not using him. This reminds me of NDSU last year when we didn't use Sams. Guarantee Bill will make a comment to this effect during the post-game presser.

yeah, it will be great to hear Bill talk about all the players that could have made a difference if they would have played more as if he has no control over it.
-
I should have played him more. Thats on me.
-

Jones is the best back so far and its not close.
-
i don't care if clinks and derricott don't know the schemes yet. i really don't.
just tell them to see ball and hit ball. when you really get down to it, defense is 90 percent aggression and 10 percent scheme.
put the athletes in and turn them loose. if we get burned, so be it.
-
As many defensive mistakes (particularly missed tackles) that we've seen in a long time, probably since Snyder's first year back.
-
truman really sucks
-
i want our shitty defensive players to all get forced out of this game by whatever means necessary.
-
did we bench truman I didn't see him on that 4th down stop
-
Honest question, are our juco studs playing? Or are they suck?
-

only mcdaniel. he's good.
-
I should have played him more. Thats on me.
that was good CNS

Yeah.

Truman is the worst thing I've ever seen.

-
Sam rough ridin' Richardson is clown suiting this defense. This defense has zero speed. The only one that looks remotely athletic is Lee.
-
it's impossible to describe how truly awful truman is
-
Truman is the worst thing I've ever seen.
yeah, yeah, but he's a 'hard-working former walk-on'
-
it's impossible to describe how truly awful truman is
I don't like to rip people, but he's been really bad.
-
Obviously we are calling him The Truman Slow.
-
Just when it is horrible, they bring you right back in
-
Just when it is horrible, they bring you right back in
that was not an int. they should probably overturn it.
-
Is Truman hurt or does he always move like this? Like is anyone else noticing how weirdly stiff he looks?
-
Hope someone gifs the shot of half of our team pointing in the wrong direction after the pick lol
-
Just when it is horrible, they bring you right back in
no way the refs let that stand
-
I say it stands, and I am the morning and the evening star.
-
Incomplete pass if anything.
-
It stands, dummies
-
Legit great play by Evans
-
wow. i don't know about that
-
I'm stunned by that. Fox pro did a great job.
-
tiny little baby lockett TD time
-
THAT'S WHAT I'M EFFING TALKING ABOUT
-
burton too!!
-
Evans wants this game
-
i hate shellenburg. and morgan burns
-
oh look, we put in dakorey and our lbs actually make a play
-
Wow, its nice having an athletic linebacker out there
-
he looked fast. play him more you idiots.
-
That's the first inspiring thing the defense has done
-
Wow, its nice having an athletic linebacker out there
we don't need athleticism. WE HAVE HEART!
-
he looked fast. play him more you idiots.
yes he did look fast
-
it's impossible to describe how truly awful truman is
No, it is not. He is Shelly.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
this year is gonna be insanely frustrating if the staff insists on playing the less talented, more experienced kids all year on d. it's never been more obvious that talent and not scheme is the problem.
-
Yes on the talent issue, but more frustrating if Lockett doesn't get healthy.
-
i like the defense a lot more than the offense
-
we literally almost got called for 12 men on the field for that last punt. WTF.
-
we literally almost got called for 12 men on the field for that last punt. WTF.
Yeah, that was ridiculous. Also have up a return and our return game has been awful. Not Sean's best game.
-
Jmo, but our defense needs to not be shitty right now
-
second half shutout

I'm not sure who this Carnes guy is, but I'm beginning to like him
-
About one bad quarter really. But it was really bad.
-
They are still shitty regardless of that second half. This is a ridiculously slow defense that can't get to the qb. The LB corp is horrendous.
-
Carnes is a mastermind for you that don't know.
-
Thank goodness Mark Mangino led offenses are known to stall often. That's why he was quietly ushered out the door at OU into the head job at KU, and that's why KU's offense didn't get better until Ed Warinner w/Todd Reesing. He's essentially a slightly worse version of Dana Dimel and Del Miller.
-
So D got one int and 2 4th down stops in 2nd half while getting the shutout. Does anybody have the 2nd half stats?
-
Can you imagine what Auburn is going to do to Truman and Schellenberg? Dear lord.
-

Let's not think such things...OK
-
I just want to thank our DT's for providing some high comedy while trying to pursue.

The times, they are a changing.
AKA guys in Smith Center, KS, aren't overlooked anymore.
-
Pressure seemed ok as the game went on, but tackling was pretty crap, Richardson was good at evading. Held them to 320 yards which seems decent, especially after that quarter where they had all the momentum in the world!
-
I still can't get my head wrapped around the fact that Snyder has now been back for 5 seasons and we still roll a slow ass set of flailers out there on defense.
It just really speaks to how inept Snyder and staff have been at recruiting.

True, they did say after Hrebec they wanted more speed.
-
I just don't get it. Where the hell is the talent? rough ridin' McNeese State looked more talented, no joke, I just watched the recording. It's completely unacceptable and Snyder shouldn't get a pass because of who he is. If there are better players then play them, if not then it's time to step down...

I was thinking the same thing, I watched some of McNeese State's game and one my first thoughts was that they have more f_cking athletes out on the field than K-State does.
But Bill's gonna Bill, and that demands being perfect in practice.
I LOL'd when he said he had two note cards and tape recorder full of mistakes in the presser today, and I thought that no amount of coaching them up is going to change the fact that we roll a whole bunch of untalented slow ass white guys out there.
-
They should auction off those notecards to pay for the NEZ renovations
-
You can say eff on here Dax
-
What is wrong with you people seriously. What do u expect with walkons and ju-co recruits this is how Snyder made his legacy. You r not going to get top 10 caliber play out of this program. a win is a win yes it was sloppy but has this ever been different in Snyder football?? Truman was not injured BTW he just sucks right now walk ons take awhile to being to play football.

when was the last time we had 9 penalties in the first half? this kind of stuff is sloppy, and it never happens
-
Why do announcers always say that Snyder coached teams never have penalties? Why do fans think that? I'm not saying that 9 is normal, but the way some announcers carry on with that point is ridiculous.
Mocat, you get me some math to back up my point that Snyder coached teams always have penalties, and sometimes a lot of them?
Gonna win 'em all!
-
The teams in Snyder's second go around have seemed to be better at eliminating penalties. However, I remember the KSU teams during the late 90s early 00s routinely having 10+ penalties a game.

Last year K-State came in 4th, behind KU [12 games], Navy and Air Force, in fewest penalties (~3.75/game).

Didn't look farther back than that. :dunno:
-
Related to the Sean discussion earlier, I really hate that we have just given up on having any sort of return game, solely with personnel decisions
-
Back during the pinnacle of Snyder I, we weren't rolling out one former walk-on after another to start at linebacker. We recruited better DT's even in the early days of Snyder I, than the one's we recruit now.
It's been five years, we're 42-22 since Snyder's return, which is great, and the walk-on story is a sweet little K-StateO story, but if you have that many guys who started out as walk-ons ultimately playing in front of guys you gave scholarships to right out of the gate. Maybe it's time to analyze just what it is you're doing out on the recruiting trail.

Yes, slobber! I go on a tirade everytime they wrongly bring up that point. Our best teams, with '98 being a prime example, had like 100 yards in penalties a game. That's LHC Bill Snyder football!
-
Yup
-
I think the 2012 was very good at not getting penalties

Exception

The cornerback blitz? Senior nickelback Randall Evans said it wasn't even the play that fourth-year defensive coordinator Tom Hayes dialed up in that situation.
"That was a mistake on Danzel's part," Evans said. "I think he read the coverage wrong, the play wrong, because we were in a zone (defense), and he thought something else, so it was a mistake on him, but that mistake turned positive. We'll take anything that's positive."
So, Hayes didn't call that play?
"That wasn't a call by Coach," Evans said. "Coach won't call no gutsy play like that. When the game is down to the wire like that, we won't call no gutsy play for anything. We play it safe."
Evans continued, "Hey, (McDaniel) misread it, but a misread can turn into a positive, or it can turn into a negative."
-
Holy rough ridin' god. That's pitiful. And awesome.
-
The best part about this is after the game when Denzel was retweeting everyone who said he made an awesome play.
-
Kansas State University, we play it safe.
-
Holy crap.
-
Incredible. When I saw the blitz I was like "holy crap hayes" because it was out of character. I kind of felt a 2004 @CU game coming. Schellenburg (or whatever his name is) would make a great Tetuan.
I wondered why Mangino didn't go to the skinny post. It was rough ridin' us all day even through a couple of drops by isu.
-

-
Man, Evans, what a complete stud. It's refreshing to not hear our players be robots sometimes.
-
This really schemes the eff out of opponents. At crucial junctures, o-coordinators have to guess "are they going to do the predictable defense that their coaches called, or is one of their players gonna screw up and/or ball out and wreck our design?"
-
Wow. That is rough ridin' great.
-
So we'll really just "take it" if a player does something completely on his own just because it works out? wtf is going on here this doesn't sound like "play safe and hope they eff up" defensive philosophy I know.
-
danzel mcdaniel is now my favorite player on this team. and it's not even close.

Danzel reminds me of the OU safety from over 5 years ago (Nic Harris?) that was a hard hitter and played dirty.

The Pokemon card reminded me that it came down to us and ISU for Danzel. Here's a few quotes from him after his visit there...
"Everybody at Iowa State has your back."
"Coach Rhoads is going to fly a jet down here to see me, and then leave for Chicago to go see my mother and father," McDaniel said. "That says a lot. The head coach recruiting me is a big factor. He has become my recruiting coordinator and is recruiting me himself. He wants me that bad and is willing to take time out of his day to call me.
"Coach Rhoads is a good man and good leader. I respect everything he says. He can lead this team to championships in the future. He wants me and Clink to come right in and play right away. I told him if we go there, we're going to help the team crack the top-25 and top-10."

So D got one int and 2 4th down stops in 2nd half while getting the shutout. Does anybody have the 2nd half stats?
They should really do 1st and 2nd half box scores like they do for basketball. Anyways, in the 2nd half ISU only gained 136 yards on 36 plays (3.78pp). Only two of those plays were inside our 40 yard line...the last two. We also held them to 1/8 on 3rd down.
-
Maybe the lack of recruiting on the defensive side of the ball has something to do with who is doing the recruiting now versus then? Snyder is a constant, but the staff is significantly different.
Hayes needs to blitz more, I hope that he is willing to change.
Is it bad that I kinda miss Matt Butler?
Also, can a mod switch my username from "Cleveland" to "Formerly of Cleveland". I've relocated and feel it best to not be associated with deindustrialized steel, filth filled Lake Erie, Johnny Football, etc. In positive news, I'm now farther from KSU land but still ran into an EMAW family downtown. I chatted with them but they seemed utterly afraid of the tall buildings, minorities, and density of the city. I think they were hayseeds from Parsons or something. I gave them high fives for their efforts though.

i think a good middle ground is freeing the corners to blitz by mistake

the D basically had one apocalyptic quarter and was otherwise ok. but my god what an epic meltdown that quarter was.

What if.... that was just the ultimate scheme pulled off by the Original, One & Only, Dr. Scheme?

there is no "what if" here, that's what happened

truman was certainly a servicable tackler last season.
classic schemology at play.
-
Usually you make up for mistakes with athleticism, once we clean it up Truman should look fine. Even though he should get replaced by one of our jucos Devonta or Riddle. Devonta, Riddle, Johnson, Prewett and McDaniel athleticism should helps more effectively blitz. Truman, Davis and Schellenberg become more of a liability when we blitz.

I basically said the same thing in another thread and got laughed at. What the hell happened? Maybe i was right to begin with?

I can't think of many things worse.

I rewatched last nigth and agree that we weren't THAT bad aside from the punt return (Special Teams, not defense) and the reverse pass. I still think Burns is dogshit and that Schellenberg, Davis, and Willis are too slow. Truman got to the right spot A LOT but my goodness he needs to lean how to tackle. We have the parts...hopefully we piece it all together by the 18th.
PS, I thought our kickoff coverage was absolutely awesome. Tanking is a freak out there.
I wish our defensive chart would look like this come Auburn:
CB-McDaniel
CB-Evans (anyone but Burns)
Nickel - Prewett
S- Green
S- Barnett
MLB- Derricot
OLB- Riddle
DE- Mueller
DT- Britz
DT- Clink
DE- Anyone but Willis...Bryant? Dowling? Wood?
Hell, I think we need to get Mike Moore back on the field, too. Elijah Lee deserves a shot at OLB instead of only getting in on obvious passing situation 3rd downs. It's not fair to put him against the LT every time he's in. That kid can move in space and needs to be out there.

Truman will play better vs. Auburn.
It's like when you hit a bullseye in darts...and the guy you're playing starts hitting bullseyes. Its infuriating. We'll be in Auburn's head so bad when we're playing toe-to-toe with them the entire night.

I sure hope so. Like I said, he was in the right place a lot. How different that game could have looked had we smashed the QB or RB in the backfield instead of completely wiffing. The punt coverage should be figured out before the Auburn game and I hope the tackling is too.
-
Guys, I've heard from numerous ITK sources that our guys are just absolutely whiped out from Bill working them so hard this year. FWIW (a lot becuase the sources are gold), Bill has been kicking their ass since fall camp started to a level none of our players have experienced before and hasn't let up even the couple days before a game.
Will Bill keep this up until the Auburn game? Will we be fresh and all of a sudden get a consistent push up front? I sure hope so.
Thoughts?
-
my thought is that I've never been too tired to play in a big game but if I was some unathletic eff who never played a minute of organized sports I might think that there's something to be worried about

What? It is most definitely possible for our team to be physically drained and for it to be impacting our performance. My question was whether or not we'll be fresh when we play Auburn.

look, i just don't believe that roll snyds will have these guys on a treadmill 24/7 leading up to the auburn game. could he have worked them hard going into our last two games? against those puds i would hope so. is he still working them hard? I would hope so.
our teams have always camped & practiced hard, and our teams are always some of the best conditioned in the conference.
this isn't a new thing, they'll be ready next Thursday

I know exactly what you mean. Whenever I think of Mel's Tavern I'm reminded of the drunk townies that kicked my ass at darts with this kind of dumb luck. Is Mel's still around?
