Yesterday . . .
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:00:23 AM »
the Google Earth Camera Car drove by my office just as I was pulling out of the parking lot, it drove right by me and I followed it for about 3 blocks.

I don't know, Google bothers me, particularly with their security "Partnership" with the NSA (That a Federal Judge protected from full disclosure as to why Google needed the NSA's "help" . . . the same NSA that's building a massive "data mining" center in Utah . . . Wired is all over that one).

Why exactly did you follow it for 3 blocks? What did you expect to find out?

I wasn't tailing it, it was going the same way I needed to go.

I like google street view because it makes it easy to get around. if they want to spy on my house or something for the government then I'm not going to stop them.

Oh, my fault. The way you said it made it sound like you were doing some undercover work to find out how Google is taking over the world.

Next question: Why didn't you tail it? Don't you realize Google is taking over the world?!

How could you?

The Feds and Google have all kinds of quiet little backdoor "partnerships".

Dear Google,

Google Earth makes it much easier to be more efficient at my job.  The measuring device is pretty damn accurate and street view makes it nice and easy to explain stuff to/coordinate stuff with people over the phone.

Thank you.

P.S. let me know if you need some follow up info/input on all that data you grabbed when driving by my house.

Agreed. Couldn't tell you how many times I ask "What is going on with this survey?" and Google Earth saves the day.

I use Google Earth all the time at work, we have custom network asset/capabilties apps for Google Earth.

Doesn't mean we can't/shouldn't keep our eye on them.

Yeah, was initially skeptical.  Ran it against some stuff I already had measured and it was really close.  I don't use it as a primary tool for take off, but it is a great secondary check, or something I use for minor stuff.

Assuming you have the same version I do, click the icon that looks like a ruler standing on end.  It is immediately left of the envelope icon at the top of the view screen.

part of the reason google earth has a secret pact with the NSA is because, believe it or not, they uncover a lot of undercover stuff when they're out doing their job and the media doesn't need to go public with the stuff because then the secrets get out and tbh that is not why they call them secrets.   they're secrets because they are supposed to be a secret.

i used to work for google in california and could tell you some stories about some of the research we did but it's all secret so nevermind lol.

just be glad that iran doesn't own google and that your government does, that's all i can really say on the subject.

Also, guys, you want to see some cool stuff.  Go up to that little icon near the top that looks like Saturn.  hit it and select sky.  then start zooming in on some constellations.  Or you can select the moon or mars.

Awesome stuff.
