    The very best.
Kind of. Our team seems more "energized" this year. Last year everyone was loafing around.

We have upgraded talent and are loaded at every position.

This is the hardest our team has worked in the offseason.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Are you a member of the team?  If not what is your source for the assertion that the team is more "energized" and is working harder than before?  I doubt the Mob is back next year but I sure hope I'm wrong about that.

Up grade in talent?  With a recruiting class chalked full of 2* players?  What are you drinking and where can I get a case?!

Gary Chandler - top juco safety in the nation and number 5 player per rivals.com

Mike Abana - 6'8 300 pound D-Tackle that runs like a gazelle

Marcus Watts - Back to 100%

Bryan Baldwin - Our best cover corner comes back from an injury that ended his season last year

Chris Patterson - One of the top 15 players in the nation coming out of high school

Returning starters other than Watts who will be a full year stronger, faster, and smarter:
Campbell, Jackson, McKinney, Josh Moore, Walker, Cline, Moran

Let's see.  That makes eight returning starters who are sure to be better than they were last year with the two best people in our secondary coming back after injuries, and three of the top juco players in the country who will be playing in the NFL in a few years.  Don't forget all the freshman and sophomores that saw significant time last year and will provide a lot of depth (Antwon Moore, Eric Childs, Garvin, Erker, Herndon, Manu, Houlik, and Perry)
The Lynch Mob is back.

Hi Herg! I've wondered where you've been. So, I take it from your previous post that you put absolutely 100% confidence in the star rankings. Just curious.

This is not a critique of chum1 but rather the assertion that is seen every offseason that "this is the hardest our team has worked in the offseason".  Usually the statement is accompanied with a few quotes from players about OL puking from running stadium steps or the leadership that the seniors are showing is like the the "'XX season" which not so coincidentally is always one of the glory years.

Optomism always reigns supreme in the offseason and will climax sometime towards the end of August at which point realism will again make an appearance.

Exactly.  I have a hard time thinking the mob will be back until I actually see it.  As of right now, no.

no top ten in total defense, no lynch mob.

it isn't going to be this year.  more like 'mildly agitated group of concerned citizens out to speak harshly' than a true lynch mob.

No true fan would say this Lynch Mob of 2007 will be the same as the Lynch Mob of 2001.  The differences begin between the hedges, right there in the trenches, mono-y-mono so to speak.  Of course I'm talking about the down linemen.  With the talent we have coming in, coupled with a renewed optimism, In My Opinion, we very well could beat several of the NFL rosters out there.  This is the direction Prince & Co. said they were going to take us at the initial presser to announce the hiring and guess what...knock-knock-knock, someone is knockin' on the door.  That being said, it's going to be difficult to transition the former starters out of our system and into someone else's (send them to Nebraska? LOL j/k) and go through the puts and takes that will be necessary this August but who knows, like you mentioned above in one of your posts, Buckle up for a wild ride!

we could have a top 20-30 D and it would seem like a return of the lynch mob but remember the lynch mob was a perrineal top 6 unit.  I'd say top 30 is still a big stretch for this year.

what the hell is he talking about in half his posts

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

The 3-4 D (defense) suits our players perfectly.  We aren't that big, but have lots of speed.  This is basically what NFL teams want."

that is the worst 5 star post ever.  you need to actually find something on the 3-4 and what kind of players it needs before you shoot your mouth off.  Your opinion of what is needed in that alignment is almost 100% opposite to what the truth is.

You need a two gap nose tackle to effectively run a 3-4 scheme, especially in the NFL and in major BCS conferences. If you don't have a 330 pound wrecker like Ted Washington or Sam Adams that demands a double team, then the 3-4 simply gets gouged for 10 yards a pop on every running play.

Gary Chandler - top juco safety in the nation and number 5 player per rivals.com
Chandler will play at the level Kyle Williams did during his junior year. He'll be okay, but not dominant.

Mike Abana - 6'8 300 pound D-Tackle that runs like a gazelle
Abana goes 6'4", tops, and is more like 275#. It will take him awhile to adjust to D-1, but the early matchup agains Auburn should help him adjust better to what he's going to face in the Big 12. Again, he won't be dominant.

Marcus Watts - Back to 100%
Watts generally looks good against the crappy teams we play. He disappears against the best teams. To me, he has a lot to prove. Can he stay injury free?

Bryan Baldwin - Our best cover corner comes back from an injury that ended his season last year
I'm more excited about Josh Moore, but anything that keeps McKinney on the bench (along with his dumbazz celebrations after we give up first downs) is a good thing. Baldwin seems to get burned about as often as McKinney, but at least he understands what he has done wrong.

Chris Patterson - One of the top 15 players in the nation coming out of high school
Less than a 50/50 chance he qualifies. Less than a 50/50 chance he's good enough to start. The kid did not even make first team in that HORRIBLE illinois juco league. The level of play there is not much better than high school. There's a reason OU did not want him -- he's OVER-RATED.

Giggle.

very true.  Which means instead of having a 330-340 pound bull in the middle you can probaly get away with a smaller bull, like 315-320 but with big 12 o-line guys averaging atleast 300 pounds the guy will still need to get a double team on every play and I don't see a 300 pound NT getting that, so you better go big.  One thing though, atleast at the NT, I don't think size is everything, those guys at the NT position have to be a little bit mental, with them attitude is just as important as muscle.  those guys don't make plays, they allow others to make plays.  So you need a guy that is built like a bull, big bull or smaller bull, either is fine, you need a guy that is unselfish and you need a guy with an attitude that allows himself to never give up and or never take a play off.

Problem is, these guys, since they are normally built like a bull tend to need a few breaks, so you need 2 of these guys.  these guys are also hard to find, meaning they are in high demand, which means hard to recruit.
