In my travels around this country and talking to fans of other conferences, the way they support each other like brothers would protect each other is almost sickening, but it makes a LOT of sense.

Ever talked to someone from the SEC or Big 10(1)?  They usually HATE each other with a passion, but when you as an "outsider" start hammering on them or beating them, they will defend their conference brethren to the DEATH.

Meanwhile, we have ku, MU, KSU, and NU fans just get downright filled with GLEE when one of the other loses to a team like "Oral Roberts", Bradley, Colorado State, UMKC, Belmont, etc...

As far as I'm concerned, these other conferences have it figured out...they want to beat the hell out of each other, but never like seeing someone else tarnish the image of the conference as a whole...much like a brother will pick on his younger sibling mercilessly, but as soon as an 'outsider' comes along and does the same thing, there is hell to pay for that outsider.

When we will as fans figure out that it's in our best interest for our conference rivals to do well?

I know lots of SEC and ACC fans, and sure while some get all wrapped in "protecting" the conference, don't kid yourself about most of them.  North Carolina fans love it when Duke loses, South Carolina fans love it when Tennessee loses, NC State fans love it when UNC loses, Virginia Tech fans hate Clemson and Virginia.

You can't be racist and like basketball.

None of this matters, BTW.

    Fear the Brick
Me supporting other Big 12 teams will not make them win/lose or benefit the conference.  It will not make this league better.  It will not put 20 million more people in the states that Big 12 televisions are in.  It will not make UT's endless endowment bankrupt.  It will not make ku get one more or one less McDonald's All American.  It will not Colorado less of an embarassment.

We have to get better.  We can make the conference better by getting better ourselves.  We can beat ku on our home court.  We can make our FT's against CSU.  We can not let a guy go for 41 points against us.

The good news is, we will.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED
Nearly everyone I've talked to that is a fan of a big 12 team cheers for ALL Big 12 teams in the tournaments and in bowl games.

It might be fun to see your rivals lose early or badly in the postseason but that doesn't change the fact that it makes the Big 12 look like ass and any fan should recognize that. Even when I fill my brackets out I can't help but show a little Big 12 bias and let Texas and aTm(and any team that makes the tourney of any year) go farther than logic tells me they will.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

I guess Big XII fans are just different because they live out in the middle of nowhere with no good television coverage for their sports teams.

Watch how many Tards will be ecstatic if ku goes out early AGAIN.

That is not helping our cause at all...especially since they put in Bob Knight, who has started to perfect the art of leaving the Tourney early.

Of course we love to see each other lose, but hell, I'll defend ku to other fans around the country just like I defend the Shuckers, etc....in Football.

And yes, I'm well aware of the fact that ACC rivals love to watch each other lose...but they'll also defend them and their conference to the death.

Perception is reality...You can't convince me the Big 12 sucks any worse than the Big 10(1) or SEC or Big East, etc...especially given what we have for talent on the top teams and what OSU did in the non-con this year.

I think I'm with fatty...the reason I'm MOST pissed off about our guys not getting in and Tech getting in is because with the right matchups, I think they had a decent shot of winning a couple games...mostly based on toughness.

I'm not even talking about who you "cheer" for...

I'm talking about the entire league not trumpeting itself, including the fans...

The Big 10 is the greatest conference on earth if you ask them or their fans or their sportswriters..same with the SEC, BE, etc...

I'll be sure next time I travel outside of Kansas to go ahead and "trumpet the Big XII" to everyone I meet.

    Since 1996
My cousin, a Georgia grad, would laugh herself to death if Auburn or Florida lost a basketball game to Manhattan High.

I have no doubt that there will be plenty of 'celebration' if ku ducks out early again. But contrary to what you will find on these messageboards, most people realize that it makes the Big 12 look horrible and reflects poorly on the conference and their own team. I'm sure some of you tards can even admit that.

Maybe its just based on the sample of people that I talk to(which is nothing like the people on these messageboards) but I get the impression that there is a 'brotherhood' factor amongst the majority of the fans of the Big 12 that people recognize.

And I've defended the entire Big 12 on a number of occasions.

The Big XII is pretty much a mid-major basketball conference.

ku's tradition trumps the ACC's 10 titles in the last 50 years.  It is Mecca.
