High post offense?

I understand the idea of using it with the smaller lineup out there, but it really frustrates me when they are in it when Benlon is in. It pretty much makes it 4 vs. 5. If they were standing under the basket they might be able to get some stick backs. Its not as if they are drawing the other teams bigs out of the post.

I realize that, and I understand why they are doing the HP, but its not as if they are drawing the other teams bigs out of the post. The HP is most effective when you have athletic big guys that can shoot like McRoberts at Duke. Wouldnt it still be beneficial to have them hanging somewhere around the basket for a possible stickback, maybe Im just way off.

I think if you had a big that could consistently get you some cheap buckets, yeah.  I think once the freshman bigs proved they weren't going to be a threat to do that but they could pass and catch (a little) Huggs just decided to go with the spacing and seams by trying to spread the defense gave us over the minimal chance Bennon might get a putback.  The only reason Bennon plays is for defense and on the offensive end they are basically an outlet to allow us to swing the ball and get out of pressure.  Hopefully next year they'll get strong enough that they can actually battle for a rebound and score some cheap buckets on a regular basis.

Well, at this point Id rather have another guard in their like Maybank or young who might be a threat to shoot and play more pressure defense. Even Kent, since he is a decent shooter and passer. Right now Bennett and Colons D and rebounding is below average. I understand the idea of giving them experience, but at this point in the year it should be all about winning.

I think Huggs does that when he can, but even in the zone he likes to have a big to bang.  OSU did have a couple round bodies so in the coaching chessmatch we had to try to match it.  Against CU Colon played 3 minutes and Bennett 0, so obvious Huggs will go that route with this roster when he thinks he can afford it.  Tonight it didn't work out and we got the same kind of purformance from Colon as we did in Lincoln.  Bennett played slightly better, but not enough to offset the other issues we had tonight; foul trouble, perimeter D, rebounding, and our first half shooting to name a few.
