Dismissed trainer says he helped Callahan land job

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Doak Ostergard contends Bill Callahan might not be at Nebraska if it weren't for a message Ostergard delivered to the school's athletic administration in January 2004.

Three years later, Ostergard is out as the Cornhuskers' head football trainer after Callahan asked for his resignation.

More than a week after his dismissal, Ostergard said he still doesn't know for sure why Callahan decided to dump him. He said he has his suspicions, but he didn't feel comfortable discussing them.

Ostergard said Callahan could be difficult to deal with, but that he didn't believe he had a rocky relationship with him.

"Anybody who works with him bumps heads with him at some time," Ostergard said.

he wasn't doing his job preperly, he got fired.  As for helping Bc get the job that is a joke as well.  All he did was relay a message.  the fact that it may have came from him means nothing.  Because if it didn't come from him it would have come from anyone of 20 people in the program.

as a matter of fact he should be sucking callahans dick.  callahan wanted him gone a while ago.  However they let hiom stay on so that he could become elgible for retirement benafits.  Once he became elgible  they let him go.  Doak needs to walk away and thank god Pedey and BC allowed him to leave with his head held high.  They could have leaked why he was fired making him look bad and kicked him to the curb without retirement beafits but they chose to do the right thing.  For that they get blasted in the media.

yeah, I'm sure Doak Ostergard was Steve Pederson's right hand man when he was looking for a coach.  Gimme a break.  Billy C would have been in Lincoln with or without Doak's input.

Bottom line.  Billy C has no personal agenda.  No coach does.  Every coach wants to win.  Anything they view that gets in the way of winning will be eradicated.

Anyone that says otherwise was probably the same kid whining, "The coach hates me, that's why he doesn't play me."  but that same kid couldn't skate/shoot/pass/check worth a crap.  If you weren't playign it was because you weren't good.
