Anyone elses company doing either of these?

A memo I got this morning:

I don't know about everyone else, but I am ready for Spring.   We have had more snow this year than I even want to talk about and what a better way to start enjoying warmer weather than to get involved in Corporate Challenge.  This is an event that is held annually here in the Kansas City area with the games starting in June continuing through the end of July.  For those of you that are new to this, Kansas City Corporate Challenge is the oldest and largest corporate challenge games in the nation.  They began with 18 companies, 11 events and 1,500 participants in 1980 and now having grown to over 150 companies, 28 events and 22,000 participants.  Each year they sponsor a local charitable organization, this year it is the Arthritis Foundation of Western Missouri/Greater Kansas City.  Every year begins more fun, new friends, renewed friendships and records to break.  Please go to their website at www.kccorporatechallenge.com to learn more about this fun and exciting event.  More information will follow regarding the games.

The games start off with a Kick Off Party/Tail Gate Party/Walk, this year it will be at Truman Sports Complex on Friday, May 11th from 4pm to 8pm.  As time gets closer we will send more information but please mark your calendars to attend this event, and bring your family.   It's a great time to get together and also a great time to do some networking.   If you can imagine 150 companies trying to outdo everyone else, crazy!

It’s that time again. The second annual Dodge for a Cause dodgeball tournament hosted by Perceptive Software and benefiting the Kansas City Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be held March 24-25 and March 31-April 1.

Just like the upcoming college basketball tournament, 64 teams will compete for a shot at roundball glory. Gather your friends, coworkers, neighbors and dodgeball enthusiasts and put together your team.

The major difference? This event is not single-elimination. Teams are guaranteed at least six games (three matches). Oh, and you perform a lot of Ds — dodging, ducking and diving — but no dribbling.

A bracket release party at the 810 Zone will kick off Dodge for a Cause. The games will begin March 24 and a championship squad will emerge from the 64 teams and be crowned with the title on April 1. All games will be held at the NADA (National Amateur Dodgeball Association)-approved dodgeball court at Perceptive Software's headquarters in Shawnee, Kan.

Because of a unique pod system and the quick pace of the matches, you won't have to take a week off work to advance through the bracket. In less than two hours of play, a pod champion will emerge. Winners of the 16 pods will advance to the semifinals and battle it out for the title on April 1. And all matches will take place on Saturdays and Sundays.

Need more motivation? Instead of cutting down nets, the winning team will receive an automatic bid into the 2007 NADA Outdoor Nationals in suburban Chicago. The grand prize also includes free roundtrip airfare and $1,000 to get you there. Additional prizes will be awarded including Best Team Uniform, Best Team Name, Best Team Theme Song and Best Team Spirit.

So check out the Tournament Information page and register now to dodge, duck and donate.

I'm thinking about doing the dodgeball thing with a couple of recent grads in my office.

    I survived the Dickey/Parrish era.
The company that employs me (is that PC for a fire-at-will scenario?) has participated in the KCCC for the past 4 years.  Three 1st's and one 2nd in our division.  The company has decided, this year though, not to participate.  Kind of pisses me off.  The KCCC is great fun....gives all of us old guys a chance to rekindle the competitive spirit (against other old guys).

As for dodge for the cure....i fielded a team for it last year....again a blast.  Sign up and have fun.

I wish I had more corporate people that weren't old and brittle.

I've been wanting to field a kickball team at Mid America for a while now. Not enough interest, and I don't get that. It's kickball, people!

You can't be racist and like basketball.
I play in a kickball league...not with corporate challenge, though.

The dorks I work with love Soccer.

Flag Football is just dumb...did it one year...and it was coed.

Won the punt/pass/kick thing because everyone else was a bunch of retards.

It seems they always schedule it during lake weekends or football games...

That was the highlight of my elementary school career.
