You can't be racist and like basketball.
This talk is making my head hurt.

I'm going to go make up some potential 07-08 lineups while hoping we win all of our remaining games.

Phreak, your point about the RPI adjustment is also one most fans don't realize.  Before that tweak (which was made to help non-BCS teams) we'd probably be in the 40s now and likley in much better shape.

9-7 Tech got picked over 10-6 CU in 2004.

http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/big12/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/record_book.pdf

CU 18-11 (10-6) and Ricardo Patton vs.
TT 23-11 (9-7) and Bob Knight

I can see how this happened.  I don't think we are in the same situation.  With a 2 game lead and three to play it would be tough to have someone at 9-7 in fifth.  Plus we have the big name coach in bold in the situation above and a program with at least some history.

This time of year with this much time between games, what do you expect.   Its a whole lot better than talking about our NIT chances or what Wooly has to do next year to keep his job.  :)

Last year at this time I was obsessed with Huggins.  It was fun.

I agree.

I really wish we had OSU on Saturday instead of Colorado.  It's like an expected win and I have nothing to look forward to until next week.

Not to mention we could have used the extra time to prepare for Oklahoma State.  Show up at Colorado and win by default, gameplan or not.  But you've gotta be ready to play some good defense and drive to the basket to beat OSU.

Question how many 9-7 teams have been left out of the Tournament?  Answer: 2 out of 10 have been left out.

Those 2 were OU in '96-'97 with a 9-7/19-11 overall record and Mizzou in '03-'04 with a 9-7/16-14 overall for both I am not sure what their record was before the Big 12 tournament and NIT.

That means that only 3 teams (NU in '98-'99 10-6 w/less than 20 total wins) in 10 seasons have been left out with a record better than .500 in conference play.

I like our chances a lot if we win 2 out 3.   We win 2 out of 3 and I will take that bet from anyone.

We're fully capable of losing at Colorado if we don't go in ready to take care of business.

maybe.  even if so, as fan pointed out, if we lose to cu, nothing else matters, we´re out.  so, it is rational to look past them to the games that matter.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

You've gotta stop looking at the past and look at the present.  It doesn't matter which teams have been left out and which ones have always gotten in.  All that matters is who has the best resume, and nothing else.  Not conference standing, not how many wins a team has, not which conference they play in.  It's about RPI, their big wins, their big losses, and their last ten games.

Oh, I agree.  I don't think we should be wasting our time discussing the Colorado game, by any means.  I'm just sayin'...

Historically, teams with 20 or more wins have a better chance of getting in.

WildCatzPhreak...how can you say stop looking at the past?  Past behavior is a predictor of future behavior.  Also, the Mock Committee came out and said that RPI never really entered the equation.

There have been several posts about why the past might not be a good indicator for NCAA selection right now; increased number of OOC games, parity in college basketball, and RPI tweaks that benefit non-BCS schools being the biggest changes over the past two seasons.

That said, your point on the RPI is correct, the RPI is rarely used for stand alone comparisons; ie. team A at 45 vs team B at 54 is not a comparison the committee uses.  However, SOS, OOC SOS, conference strength, and quality wins which are results of the RPI are strongly considered.  So as for the actual ranking, yes the RPI is not used much, but the secondary data that comes from the RPI is used bigtime along with how you finish and what you did on the road, etc.
