You can't be racist and like basketball.
I've also heard Johnny Coy (basketball) will be there and I'm hoping Travis Releford (basketball) will be there.

Seriously?

That guy is my second cousin or something like that.  I had no idea we were recruiting him, and I don't know how good a football player he is.

He is a stud wrestler though.

Mizzou one of many courting Coy

It became clear midway through last season that Johnny Coy would eventually earn himself a Division I scholarship, but it seemed he probably wouldn’t end up at a level higher than the Missouri Valley Conference. How times have changed.

Coy, a 6-foot-7 junior forward at Benton High in St. Joseph, Mo., has been the subject of an onslaught of attention during the past six weeks, and it’s been coming from programs of all sizes, prestige levels and locations. About a dozen college coaches are expected to attend his regular-season finale Friday night, most of them hoping to get one last surge before Coy finishes his season and goes into decision mode.

Coy has offers from Arizona State, Washington State, Creighton, Wichita State and UM-KC, along with heavy interest from a bevy of other programs – Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, UNLV, Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan State Michigan and Purdue, to name a handful. He’s received about 70 letters in the past four days, said his brother Richard Coy, who is helping to handle his sibling’s recruitment.

“The last month and a half has been crazy,” said Richard Coy, also an assistant coach under Jim Hinrich at North Kansas City High. “As soon as ku gets involved, it just kind of snowballs.”

ASU appears to be Coy’s leader at this time. Coach Herb Sendek and staff were the first to seriously recruit the versatile swingman, and he visited the campus earlier this month. He also has been hearing a lot from ku assistant Tim Jankovich, and he is enamored with the thought of becoming a Jayhawk.

“Coach Jankovich told me he loves everything about him … ku said he could play the one, two, three or the four,” said Richard Coy, adding that ku and ASU are his favorites at this point.

“[Most] everybody else is kind of medium,” he said.

That’s not to say Mizzou is out of the running, though. Tigers assistants Melvin Watkins and Jeff Zimmerman have remained in steady contact with him, and Zimmerman was scheduled to attend his game earlier this week, but the game was canceled. The younger Coy is familiar with the program and has interest in the Tigers.

“I would say it’s pretty high,” Richard Coy said.

The question is, will the Tigers staff elect to offer Coy a scholarship, and if so, will they be able to catch up in time; he could commit shortly after the season ends. He has several visits planned, possibly to both Creighton and Wichita State on Saturday and then checking out Kansas-Kansas State Monday night.

The surge of interest in Coy is his vast improvement since last season, when he deferred to a group of upperclassmen. He worked hard on his jumper during the offseason and has doubled his average from 14 to 28 points per game. He has a valuable package of versatility and size, at 6-7, 200 pounds and comes from great genes; he will join his brother, father and two sisters as all-state basketball players, although none of them played at a major college level as he will.

As far as determining what college he’ll do so at, it’s safe to say the stands will be dotted Friday night with coaches hoping to procure his verbal commitment. InsideMizzou.com will keep you posted as Coy’s recruitment comes down the home stretch…

b. rhodes, sutton, pullen.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."
